Zip Watcher Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I saw that tonight also. Where the cautious part should be kept in mind is the fact that XRays don't contribute at all to the diagnosis of muscle and / or ligament injuries. Only CT or MRI can visualize soft tissues. XRays tell you about the bone and might show if there are chips, or a complete tendon release from the bone, but they don't offer much in the way of indicating the presence of tears in soft tissues. Regardless .. I'm keeping the fingers & toes crossed until we hear more. Hang in there JWood! Quote
Guest Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 This from today's Beacon Journal regarding Jeremiah. The silence is deafening. Say it aint so!!! Posted on Tue, Jan. 04, 2005 University of Akron basketball report Zips forward has MRI scan on leg Timetable for Wood's return will be set when results come back today By Darnell Mayberry Beacon Journal staff writer University of Akron sophomore forward Jeremiah Wood underwent an MRI scan Monday night to determine the severity of the injury to his right leg. The results will indicate how much time he will miss, but won't be available until doctors review the tests today. The Zips basketball staff is hopeful that Wood won't miss the rest of the season, but early signs indicate it as an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Wood injured his leg Sunday with five minutes remaining in the first half of the Zips' 71-59 win over Ohio University. Wood leapt from the left side of the lane for an offensive rebound. He grabbed the ball but wound up on the right side. A Bobcat defender appeared to have unintentionally undercut Wood, causing his knee to buckle upon landing. Wood immediately grimaced and screamed in pain as he landed. He then pounded the floor. Two Zips trainers helped him walk off the floor, and he was later taken to Summa St. Thomas Hospital. X-rays on his leg Sunday night didn't reveal any broken bones, but Wood was fitted for a brace to immobilize the limb. Wood sat in on the Zips practice Monday morning. Coaches said he was in high spirits. Wood, who sustained a stress fracture to his left tibia during the off-season last year, said one of his goals entering this season was ``to get back in shape after I was injured last season.'' Wood started in all 10 of the Zips' games this season, averaging 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds in 26.4 minutes. As a freshman, he started in 26 of 28 games, averaged 9.9 points and 7.3 rebounds, led the team in rebounding 21 times and earned a spot on the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman Team. Quote
