Sorry, I wish the best to JD and his team, but Akron will have to beg the boys from Madison to keep it under 50. That's how much better they are.Put this on the bulletin board, Zips! Well, maybe not.

Sorry for the double post, but our activity has not gone unnoticed: the story was moved from being one of the rotating blurbs on the NBA page to being the Headliner on the Men's BB page! It's far more exposure being up there.
I dunno. I never lose hope. We stayed in that Penn State game until the third quarter, and the same with the OSU game last year. Maybe we can rise up and keep this thing within reach for a while...

I didn't check their schedule, but this is probably the Badgers first game. They will take the usual BCS vs non-BCS approach to this game and show nothing the BCS teams can use against them. If the Zips can stop off tackle plays and basic passing plays, they could keep this one under 28. I'd like to think we could at least score 10 points against them.Nobody getting hurt is the key to this game.

When is the last time we had a significant injury when we played our "pay day" big game?
I don't know and I don't care. These Big Ten games are nothing more than preseason NFL games with little meaning (other than cold hard cash) and a lot of risk to player health. The Zips really need to be healthy going into the MAC schedule. All I'm asking for is six wins. This game is almost a sure loss so why get players hurt in a meaningless game?October 20, 1990 Akron lost SEVEN (appx. 32% of all starters) starters for the remainder of the season during the Florida game. Included in the injuries was the starting QB.

I don't know if you got to watch the last time we played the Badgers, but it was a pretty good game. I have even heard some people say the Zips got cheated out of a winWhile there is risk of getting injured, I think there is the same risk of getting injured in the Can't State game. I think we'll manage. We might even learn something that would help us in our upcoming MAC schedule.I don't think we will have the offense to put up 31, but I don't think our D will give up 48.We need to be able to run the ball to make this game competitive. (I know...duh)

As a fellow Steelers fan, I expect better than this from you. A successful football team must be able to both run and pass. It's called balance. They don't even have to be great at one or the other, they just have to be good at both. Running endlessly is what lost AFC Championships one after another over the past 15 years. Once balance was established with a winning QB, they go to Super Bowl XL. Can you imagine what the Zips would be like this year with a Roethlisberger type QB with the talent they have?As far as almost winning the last time in Badgerland, every team that loses a close game thinks they were cheated somewhere along the way. Excuses are one of the main ingredients in keeping a loser a loser.I stand by my original post. The Zips need to be injury free (which does not mean laying down) after the Badgers game.

Hey GP..............Doc's right about the last visit to Madison. PBS of Madison telecast the game back to Milwaukee where I had it recorded and still have a copy. It's on tape. We went in for a score but were denied.....................only because it was close enough to "fudge it" and the Big Ten Refs working the game had chocolate noses from being around that big a-hole Barry Alvarez who ran the Big Ten at that time. The play after that shockingly bad call Sorgi hit Evans for the longest passing score in Badger history.................they gave it 99 1/2 yards at the time.............what does that tell you? Right call, no score on the next play, 14 point swing.Anthony Davis ran all over us that day and the next week he was injured in the first offensive series against UNLV...........and UNLV went on to upset the Badgers. Check it out. Can't disagree with what you said about excuses, and everyone thinking they get cheated, but this mutha was a special case. I will NEVER forget it. Ask CK, he'll tell you the same thing.BTW.................Charles was amazing that hot summer day. He still almost brought the Zips back after all that.

Agreed. In an overall season. But against the Badgers if we can't run and go quick three and outs...good night. Maybe control the clock (although I hate that term) would be a better description.

I can't believe what I'm reading here! If we don't go into a game and bust our @$$ trying to win, then we should just disband the football team and we can all go and root for Can't! Don't get me wrong, I have NEVER been this melancholy prior to a Zips Football season, but we've got to try to win, even if the odds of us winning are low. As for the call goal line call, I've seen the "Proof" of Hendry plunging across the goal line, and there was no goal line in the picture. That's a distant memory so let it go.Now, for arguments sake, if Chuck were back under center, who would he throw the ball to???? I'm hoping we come out much better than expected a-la the Purdue game in '05, but my hopes aren't that high.

If you don't show up to win, you shouldn't show up at all. If this team wants to develop a winning culture, they have to compete in every game to the best of their ability. Playing to not get hurt is a loser's mentality, which this team can not afford to have if they want to get out of the D-IA basement.
