Would have been interesting to see if three MAC teams would have made the tourney if WMU had won. NIU is at least a worthy champ, but just so strange to not see the Zips in it.

both teams were very direct, especially Western Michigan. Western Michigan booted the ball to the other side of the field every touch. They only had one serious attempt on goal that the crossbar saved. Northern Illinois mixed direct with possession but were also very wasteful. There were around 200-300 at the game, I missed the normal Akron soccer atmosphere I've come to love. Let's hope we get at least 1 home game in the NCAA tournament.

official attendance was 167. Akron's loss in the 1st round hurt the MAC a little financially. 167 x $10 = $1670 compared to the 2,000 that would have shown up for more than $20,000 plus concessions.

I'm a huge soccer fan no matter who is playing, but even I had a hard time walking past the Pouch yesterday without being depressed that two schools were playing for a MAC title on our field and one of them wasn't us... 2) It was a sunday and we all know how people feel about the NFL... |

Skip, how many people do you think would show up at the "Big Dialer" (I forget now what the actual name of the place is, can anyone help me?) to watch those two (NIU-WMU) play American football. Whoops! I forgot -- given local conditions, it might be more than would show to watch the home team!
