Captain Kangaroo Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 News release from Austin PeayAPSU will also participate in the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., from Nov. 19-22 along with Niagara, IUPUI, Central Florida, Auburn, Drake and Howard. The Govs open the tournament on Nov. 15 at Akron and then head to Florida for the third annual event.I'm guessing they accidentally left Akron off the listing of teams (they need 8 teams, and state Akron is the tourney-opening opponent). Obviously the tourney will be set up to get Auburn and Central Florida into the finals. That's good news for the Zips because either:UCF will be in an allegedly cake walk bracket that may include the Zips. Zips have a nice path to the finals.orThe Zips will be in the "difficult" bracket, with opportunities to play either Auburn, Drake or both.Sign up for your trip package today! Quote
Zip Watcher Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Seems like a better group of teams than we saw in Fairbanks last year.Good to have APSU @ the JAR. They're solid. Not spectacular, but solid. Quote
xu9697 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 IUPUI has made the tournament in the last couple years and has been in their conference championship game a couple times. Niagara has done the same. I believe Howard was in the NCAAs last year or the year prior. Definitely could be a couple quality wins with a nice run. Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Looking at 2008, I don't understand the tournament format. Only 7 teams are listed. 1 team (WV Tech) only played in the first round. Another team didn't play in the first round, but played in the rounds at Daytona.Glenn Wilkes Classic Quote
ZachTheZip Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Want to bet that we're the team not playing beyond the first round this year, just like we couldn't play in the actual Legends Classic tournament last year? Quote
