zip81
Penn State does a similar ritual in the Bryce Jordan Center before games and I'm sure many others do it so it's no like OSU is the ONLY school who does it. Do they call is Skull session? This is what I'm trying to find out.If it's a generic term, we can use it.If it's just an OSU term, I say call it something else. That's what I'm getting at.Thanks

scottditzen
I would much rather hear traditional marching band music, music with energy and lots of drums, and please stop mining the lite rock from the 1970's. We're not at cheap lawn seats at Blossom Music Center for washed up bands like Chicago, we're at a football game!!!Oh, and script ZIPS was very cool.p.s. Love when the band plays "Hey Baby, I wanna know, if you'll be my girl" Classic.
UA Fan
Roo Rally? If we had a true "show band" (think historically-black colleges) our attendance would increase by probably 50%. A lot of people would come out to see that and they could give a full-length post-game show as well as halftime. But to have the talent and commitment necessary to field a band of marching athletes like that there would have to be some significant scholarship money involved but it would be a great investment in the football program, IMO. interfx
I think we need to bring the tire drum back!!Here's the image of the "tire" drum....http://www.zipsalumniband.com/photo1950.htmGet Goodyear to sponsor, and create a real crowd pleaser... Bang the drum for each point scored... (oopps. starting to sound like Purdue) It was dropped 1-2 years after, because it was hard to move around...Thought you'd like to see it... Zipsrifle
Here's my wish list:1) PLEASE PUT OUT A QUALITY CD WITH THE FIGHT SONG, ETC. SO I CAN PLAY IT ON THE WAY TO THE GAME AND AT THE TAILGATE!!!2) PLEASE PUT OUT A QUALITY CD WITH THE FIGHT SONG, ETC. SO I CAN PLAY IT ON THE WAY TO THE GAME AND AT THE TAILGATE!!!3) TIRE DRUM YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need one of the huge earth mover tires, but it would probably ruin the turf! Get the cheerleaders to pull it across the field......what would happen if it fell over????? 4) NO Script Zips. Total ripoff. We can come up with our own traditions.5) Rowdies need a rallying cry! Nothing dumb.....we already have too much of that! When the new stadium is built.....something definately needs to be done the night before a game! Zipsrifle
I've got it! We need 2 huge Earth Mover tires, and an axle in between. This will eliminate the chance they fall over and squash someone! We could have a winch in each endzone, so we could roll it back and forth across the field! Zips DM
About the CD...Look for one this summer, we recorded one at the end of this season, and it is is in the post production stage at the moment. I will post here as soon as I know more.Also... Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming.
Captain Kangaroo
Is a .pdf of the sheet music for the Zips fight song available anywhere? Treble and Base clef? Starting to formulate ideas for 2007 tailgating.... I still say handing out 5 cent kazoos before the home opener and having everyone "buzz along" with the band to the fight song @ halftime would be a fun, audience participation thing. If you did it for the K.e.n.t. game you could have a contest to see who's fans can kazoo the loudest. I'm sure K.e.n.t's band will be there and they'll have 5,000+ fans too. Blue & Gold
Kazoos rock.Script "Zips" absolutely does not rock. NO RIP OFFS!"Heeeeey baby, I wanna know if you'll be my girl," rocks. And as for a name for our own skull session, we should call it "The Billabong!"It's cool, it's aussie, it fits with the roo motif. It's cool.
ZippyTuba11
Regarding the highstep, it was taken away from halftime because it makes the band sounds like crap. Doesn't matter what band it is, the more flushy highstepping they do, the less sound production they will have. Also, it makes formations a nightmare because the highstep isn't a very effective march. Impossible to march backwards for instance. That said, the band still marches highstep for pregame. Though only about the five people who bother to actually be in the stadium for pregame know this It is unlikely that the band will actually do 'Script' Zips again. It is a rip off. Though I do like the 'Block' Zips.A CD is on its way.I have spoken to the director about the Tire in the past, and unfortunately I do not think it is ever coming back. The band doesn't have the old one and apparently the University isn't on spectacular terms with Goodyear anymore. I don't know the full story behind that though.I was disappointed with the dropping of Hey Baby. That needs to come back this year.Classical music will always be preformed at atleast one show. The band has been traditionally called a 'symphonic marching band' and it appears a tradition that will stay. That said, there will be plenty of other genres that the band will play too.Regarding music, I would love the band to start playing some traditional marching band music. Something really catchy that the crowd can get into.A Jam session before a game would be awesome when we get a new stadium. And yes, 'Skull Session' is unique to the Suckeyes. Roo Rally doesn't sound so bad...I would love to see unifrom changes. The current ones just...don't look right.

Formations work fine, limit the backwards movement. I think it was changed because it is difficult and no one wants to put in the time to master it. ziptrumpet87
Regarding the highstep, it was taken away from halftime because it makes the band sounds like crap. I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame videoThat said, the band still marches highstep for pregame. Though only about the five people who bother to actually be in the stadium for pregame know this Maybe someday they'll doubletime like we used to!
