  1. It is interesting to me that so many people put the loss on Woodson playing vs Pohl. Pohl had no team activities for half the week. This would have included film sessions and team meetings. Pohl was unprepared to face Ohio, even if he was cleared midweek. That likely means Wednesday night. So he would have had Thursday and the Friday walk through to get ready. As opposed to Woodson who had the whole week to prepare. We lost an offensive lineman early in the game, so a sub has to come in. Pohl is known to be a slow starter. Woodson answered Ohio's opening score easily, then we stalled for the rest of the half. Would an unprepared slow starter have answered Ohio's score to stem the momentum? Unlikely. The only reason we lost this game is because the line couldn't get a push to create any kind of run game. Then the defense kept poo-ing down their leg every time Akron took the lead. To top it off, on the last Akron drive that mattered, Pratt fumbles the ball in our own territory forcing us to eat all of our time outs and forcing an inexperienced QB into a tough 2 minute situation. We lost to a very disciplined mid-level MAC school with the most tenured coach in the Conference by a whopping 3 points. And people are acting like A. Woodson has 0 talent and B. Bowden is throwing away the season because we've given Pohl opportunities to quiet doubts but has yet to deliver. Pohl performs better when he thinks his job is on the line, and we need a win against Ball State. So Bowden is telling him, your job is on the line, and I know we can win with Woodson. So perform or get ready to be the back up. In my opinion Bowden is doing the right thing. We need to stay above .500 if we want to go bowling this year. 5-3 means we only have to split the pair in the last 4 games. 4-4 means we have to take 3, and it's a tough 3 with BGSU, Buffalo, and UMass is putting up big points every week. 3-1 when it matters is especially tough when this team is not used to playing with something on the line.

  2. Just win baby !!! This will be a non-issue when we win Saturday No matter which QB is on the field ............. I believe that Coach B and staff have no interest in losing and will make the decision as to which one gives us the best chance to win Will everyone hold the same opinion in the chance that Woodson starts tomorrow and throws for 300 yards and 3 TD's with 0 INT's ? My guess would be no, most would be all on board And if Pohl returns to the helm and has an equally great game .................. We will be doing the "see I told you so" posts !!! LOL Us fickle fans

  3. This team can beat any of their last 5 opponents. Problem is they have to keep knowing they can beat anyone.

  4. Am I understanding this correctly? Say any college football player suffers a head injury and is kept out of practice all week because medical people say it could be dangerous to his longterm health. A couple of days before the next game he's still showing signs of head injury and the coach announces he won't be playing. On the morning of the game the player is examined again and finally shows the last obvious signs of the head injury have just cleared up. Are some fans claiming here that it's a responsible thing for a coach to put that player on the field with zero game preparation within a day or two of having shown signs of a head injury? It's a good thing there's a responsible adult running the Zips football program.

  5. Some came to that conclusion after watching the Spring game. . . Sometimes the people raising red flags early are proven wrong. Sometimes they are proven right. There have been a few bright spots on the offensive side this season to keep hope alive and there is still time left to get it together, but that window of opportunity is closing.

  6. I agree our defense is bowl-worthy. But 7 games into the 2014 season, I have yet to see any semblance of a bowl-worthy offense. Against the teams you listed, I can't see us moving the ball at all...at least under the present offensive status quo. I'll continue to hope that Pohl's bye week brings him back motivated and refreshed, and that Chisholm and Hundley are utilized in the home stretch. If that happens, no doubt a VCU-esque beatdown (the football equivalent - Marshall 2014) won't happen. A telling game for the Zippers this week. Losing to lower-middle MAC teams like OU and Ball State might still leave open the possibility of being bowl-eligible, but it would pretty much eliminate any claims to being bowl-worthy.
