  1. Don't get on the radio to talk about it then.

  2. I see two pluses with Larry Williams right off the bat. First he has a strong marketing background. For everyone who's been critical of past UA marketing efforts, this is a critical strength to have in a new AD. Now we'll have to see how that marketing background translates to a lesser known school in one of the lesser conferences in a mid-range marketing area. Can he make some magic out of the Z? Second his strong record on academics is sure to score points with UA faculty who may believe that athletics and academics don't mix well. At the very least faculty won't have the same level of animosity with this AD that they would with a pure jock who tries to cheat the system to protect athletes who are under-performing in academics.

  3. More than anything else, this makes me very concerned that cuts are being made without thorough consideration. But to those on the outside, it sure is going to appear as if nobody knows what they are doing.

  4. http://gozips.com/general/2015-16/Releases/WIlliams_Larry_Release_081815 I'm optimistic about his credentials... Williams brings a diverse athletics background and proven track record with him to Akron. Throughout his career, he has been a NCAA Division I athletic director, collegiate and professional athlete, including a stint with the Cleveland Browns, practicing attorney, media talent, university marketing administrator, and most recently, a top executive in the corporate trademark licensing and marketing industry. Williams comes to the University from Equity Management, Inc., where he led the nation's largest corporate licensing program, increasing marketing, royalties, and branding. Prior to that, Williams directed the athletics department at two universities, focusing on competitive excellence, academic success, and business fundamentals. As the vice president and director of athletics at Marquette University, Williams saw the Golden Eagles achieve unprecedented broad-based excellence. The men's basketball team reached the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Marquette was one of only two schools to have its men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's volleyball teams receive NCAA berths in back-to-back years and Top 10 RPI rankings in 2013. Likewise, the Portland Pilots, under Williams' leadership, won a NCAA Division I Championship in women's soccer in 2005, and earned Top 10 finishes in men's cross country as well as first-ever national rankings in men's basketball, baseball, and tennis. Williams' business acumen was also demonstrated when he spearheaded Marquette's membership into the new Big East Conference, increasing media revenue and television exposure; and oversaw significant facility expansion, including a new soccer stadium and a training center for all student-athletes. I will admit, I'm a little concerned about his Notre Dame connection. That has not worked well for UA in the past. Hopefully, the 3rd time is a charm, as the old adage goes.

  8. No, it's called "Taking an action without enough forethought, that ended up not being necessary in the first place, which added to your already-existing pubic relations nightmare when you are a public University that relies upon impressing potential students and athletes". That is infinitely more damaging than a Coach making a wrong decision on a starting player, etc., then reversing his decision.

  9. So anyone planning on going? I have some friends in Tulsa I haven't seen in a while, so I figured this would be a fine time to go out, so I'm in.

  10. Yes, and how did his predecessor do? Where were his recruiting classes ranked? I seem to recall the Zips being ranked #1 sometime during a season in which he coached. I'm sorry, but I can't stand the pessimism. Our players deserve our full, optimistic support. I like this recruiting class and the time that most of this team has had together.
