  1. I find it rather silly for someone to imply any link to failure because others who they deem as unsuccessful once worked at the same University. If you thought someone was a boob who once worked at a particular company, would you have a fear of the ability of everyone else that ever worked at that company? Who knows. The Gerry connection may have even been the reason why we were able to attract someone with Larry's kind of background. And although people will debate forever about Gerry's college coaching ability, I will forever acknowledge all of the work he did to get us started in D-1A, under very lean circumstances, and all of the great former players who I've gotten to know who rave about how much he did to develop them as players and people. Lumping Gerry and Rob I. in the same conversation is just ridiculous.

  2. FTR, I have never met George on a face-to-face basis, but have interacted with him on numerous occasions over more than a twenty-year period. George worked in the athletic department as an undergrad when the UA men's bb team first tripped to my state in the early 1990s, and from that time on I have found his overall interest and ability in working with alums thousands of miles away to have been far beyond what might have been expected -- especially in comparison to certain other AD employees who simply couldn't care enough to even return an inquiry. I hope that he will stay at the UA, because frankly he does a great job at what he's doing right now, and that is terribly important to the institution. Universities like the U of A need alumni and leaders like George van Horn. And, right now, I think the selection committee made a great choice. I look forward to Mr Williams' numerous national connections creating an upgrade to many sports programs in the coming years. Welcome aboard, Larry!

  4. I hope so. This program could desperately use a major upset.

  5. They better hope they don't overlook us for Tennessee, which very well could happen. They could find themselves in big trouble.

  6. Frankly, I was quite favorably impressed with the Zips. This was easily the best Zips team under Embick that I have watched. They out hustled, out played and controlled the match. Really good ball control, team work, communication, knowing where to be, and best of all they ran through attacks. None of that giving up on a play so characteristic of Embick's previous teams. I do not know good or bad Oakland was suppose to be. They were dominated. This promises to be a quality Zips team that will be fun to watch. Good job Zips.

  7. Seriously... wtf?! Scarphoon. I don't know that I have ever witnessed such an inept, ham-handed PR display. It's all appears to be even more haphazard and ill-thought than our worst fears. The challenges UA faces are real and significant. But the last 7 months has been all unforced errors-- one after another.

  8. I'm disappointed that George Van Horne didn't get the job, as I think he could have done well. All the pressure is now on Larry Williams. I wish him well as UA and Zips Athletics need all the help they can get right now. George's experience and expertise could provide huge assistance to Larry assuming George doesn't get a better offer elsewhere.
