  1. If Givens and Scott are backups in the secondary, this defense will be loaded. They were our 2 best corners last year.

  2. Unfortunately wasn't able to stop by to get one as I moved to Savannah, Georgia 2 years ago. Just a fan on an island excited about anything Zips. I'm surrounded by Georgia and Florida faithful.

  3. If you are staying in okc I would go south on I35 to Highway 9 (will be the last exit into Norman). Go east on highway 9 to Jenkins (3 orm4 miles). Turn north on Jenkins (intersection will have Lloyd Nobel arena on the west side of Jenkins anf the National Weather Service main building on the east side. Head north a mile or two and you will see lots of available parking in yards, churches or city parks. $10 or so to park. Mucho tailgating all the way to the stadium. Constrution going on around the stadium so avoid coming down Main to miss massive traffic problems. Avoid is the wrong word, traffic is a disaster any way you come in. Arrive at least two hours before kickoff and you shoukd be good. Don't be shy and you will have a great time and get free food and beer. Any other questions just post em and I will do my best to give you an answer.

  4. My point in this is that a university making a 2% cut in its budget to close a budget hole isn't a story, It's just the normal course of business. A new president looking for ways to find savings in one area to re-direct into another area isn't really a big story, certainly not a "the place is coming unglued" story. In fact, it's a "implementing a strategy" story. But when you put the 2 together (conflate them), it becomes a "this is a crisis" story. Not good. It results in honors college freshman saying things like “It’s good to see Akron’s not dead,” said Kerry Holmes, 18, of Akron, who will study computer science. “It’s just having a little turmoil.”

  5. We can wish for more while still appreciating what we have. Everyone understands that UA is not in the same class as the likes of Duke, Kansas and the other major programs that have won 20 or more games for 10 or more straight seasons against tough competition. But that level of consistency is not easy for any program to achieve even with easy schedules. Season after season more than half of the D-I teams in the country play weaker overall schedules than UA, yet not a single one of them has been able to match the Zips' 10-year string of 20+ win seasons. That's a worthy achievement for Zips fans to take pride in at the same time they're wishing for even greater future achievements.

  6. Thanks for the review. If your QB has turnover issues, our defense should expose that. That will be something we will have to do to compete. Don't worry about your defenses coverage skills, but they better be ready to tackle...a lot. PS If Westbrook catches a quick pass, near #1, he better get down quick.

  7. Nothing wrong with recruiting off 20+ wins, but there is a limit to which teams we can compete against. Besides Akron, Noah's only other official visit was to San Jose State. Our gain, but I really would like to see us start enhancing our recruiting position. We've been using the same 20+ win pitch for 6-7 years now? It's great that we can still use it, but frustrating that there isn't more to sell.

  8. I guess my first thought is that when you see the campus from Exchange, it's actually a good, panoramic view of the entire strip of buildings. So, it might make sense from that standpoint, if they have enough room there for suitable visitor parking. As far as the baseball field is concerned, we don't need it if it's not coming back. And if it does come back, I wonder if it's practical to cut a deal with Canal Park to use that facility a couple dozen more times a year when RubberDucks games are not being played, rather than maintaining our own field. It might be a win/win for everyone. The city could have two "tenants" using Canal Park.

  9. When we gave the job to the former coach's assistant, I felt like we blew a rare opportunity as a school like Akron. We had a program that could have probably lured just about anyone in the country. We may never have a chance to utilize that type of leverage again, in any sport. I felt like we should have gone elsewhere, and I have been a bit disappointed with what we've accomplished since that time. The contract extension surprised me.

  10. This was one game early in the season. Old Dominion plays a different brand of soccer than Akron. ODU never tried to work the ball up the field. Their goalie had a strong leg and would punt the ball 2/3rds to 3/4ths up the field. ODU would group big strong guys where the ball was coming down and those guys would try to direct the ball to their 5'7 super speedy guy. The guy that scored 3 was as fast and elusive as anyone that I have seen in college soccer. ODU was super aggressive on defense with a fair amount of pushing and grabbing. Akron really struggled to get the ball past the ODU 40 yard line. The players were frustrated but they did not quit. Adam was still making good passes late in the game. Victor was still battling for the ball at midfield. Richie and Sean were still trying to make runs. Coach Embick moved Andrew to an outside back midway thru the first half to try to change the momentum. As ME87 said, the best thing to do is learn from the clunker and move on. Soccer can be a cruel game and the zips had some bad bounces early in the 2nd half and it got out of hand. The next time, they play a team that advances the ball completely in the air, the zips will have learned from the Old Dominion game. I would much rather have this type of game in the 2nd match of the year rather than it occurring in the NCAA tourney. I expect this team to come out with fire in their belly in their next game against Georgetown. This team has too much talent and too many players with great character. This team is still going to have a very good year.

  12. "Conflate your own policies" is nothing more than one person's colorful interpretation of funds earmarked for new initiatives, capital repairs and improvements. We were already discussing in one of the other active threads the subject of cutting programs and people vs. freezing all new development. Anything more I may have to say on the subject will be in that thread.

  13. If the zips schedule 4 more respected opponents in place of those 4, there would be NOTHING to criticize. I, personally will be very happy and much more excited about the OOC schedule. We're not delusional fans who are impossible to please and we're not asking for the moon. Are 4 entertaining OOC home games/year too much to ask for? And I feel compelled to remind that by entertaining home games, I am not asking for Duke, NC or OSU. I am talking a decent midmajor. And for those of you who are worried about the winning streak...if we cannot beat a decent midmajor at home and if the only way for us to have a winning streak is by playing cupcakes then, we should have the decency to admit that we are not that good...and may be this streak-based recruiting strategy needs revisited.

  14. Entertaining thread. I like everyone's answers. Can I answer twice? If the answer is yes, today I'll go with a group (Zips instead of Zip). The offensive group. I can't wait to see our new offense and how it preforms, and who flourishes in it. If the answer is no, see below. I'll go with a group (Zips instead of Zip). The offensive group. I can't wait to see our new offense and how it preforms and who flourishes in it.
