  1. Balsy, I am even more removed than you. I haven't been in school there in nearly 30 years. But trust me, alums are pissed. They may not seem passionate about Athletics at Akron, but they do feel strongly about the degrees they received, and how they will be perceived as the University changes. And they've stopped donating money, which is probably the biggest voice we have.

  2. Saw the article in today's ABJ. I hope we haven't lost our in-road to their recruits. Seems like we had a good thing going recently. It would be nice if we could get him to come aboard in some capacity to help further our local recruiting efforts.

  5. This is how I feel. But as I get further away from my graduation, and the less of my friends that are still in college there, the more disconnected it becomes for me. It's really sad. I've always been willing to fight for this university, but now I'm losing my fight. Not because I don't think it's a worth fight, but because very few alumni seem to give a damn. There are a of almuni who have been involved and are speaking out against these moves (a lot of them faculty) but there's been a visceral response to them. I'm at the point that I'm left asking; why do I care so much? Is my alma mater really worth the time and energy to defend when there are so few willing to do it? I find it very disheartening Skip.

  6. Akron students are historically apathetic. It is a shame.

  7. Who said anything about NFL Scouts? Might have glossed over that one but didn't catch it? But you are kidding yourself if you think Akron has as much film in front of scouts as they do in the Big Ten or any other P5 conference. You are absolutely right that if you have talent, scouts will find you. But how many times do players come through Akron that catch the attention like a Brown did this year? However, you can get noticed by the scouts looking at other players. Hence why pro days at big schools mean a lot for lesser named players. There's a reason why Akron players have to go to other schools pro days, while P5 schools are filled with head coaches and not lower rung position coaches like at MAC schools when a big name player is not present.

  8. Well obviously they aren't concerned because NOTHING has been done about the lack of attendance in three years. Here's an example....I tried to buy tickets to the game and wanted seats in the lower bowl. What was I told? the only way I can but tickets in the lower bowl is if I buy a 3 game package. Sorry, I'm not interested in going to 3 crappy games.

  9. You plant corn you grow corn. Which of the last ten games was supposed to get "Joe Akron" interested? The tight win over Lipscomb?

  10. A win they should have expected. Looking forward to see where things stand next tuesday. On a side note.... shouldn't an Athletic Dept and University bleeding money be a little concerned that only 2600 fans showed up? for a team that is 13-2, and won 10 in a row, and is 7-0 at home?

  11. It is very well written, indeed. And scary. Where she thinks this is all headed, and the deficiencies it could create, has been my fear all along. I either need to join the crusade to stop it, or possibly live with the idea that I hold Liberal Arts degrees from a Tech School. And I'm certainly not alone. I'm thoroughly convinced that they are taking actions to attempt to survive financially, while shortcutting some of the things that make a higher education so valuable, which could destroy the status of this University that has been earned over decades of growth.
