  1. Well, well, some good news. It seems that the Zips are not so poisonous to some quality teams. P5 teams that need to bolster their OOC Strength of Schedule are finding Akron a good choice. Explanation: P5 programs that are in the top one-third of their conference have no desire to risk losing to the Zips. Nor do teams in the bottom one-third. However, those teams that are "bubble" teams are eyeing the Zips as a way to improve their Strength of Schedule, And, win or lose it does not really matter. Creighton is an example. A couple of teams are close to signing a contract with Akron. High quality programs that will make for a good road trip as they are NOT coming to Akron. Details and names to follow.

  2. Thanks for the additional info. I surely don't think I see that LB/DB or "Rover" player like we've seen over the year in college ball. Although, I don't even think I have seen the actual term "Rover" used in years. In the NFL (at least in terminology) you seem to see LBs, CBs and Safeties. So I guess we all have to wonder if someone who's skills are "In Between" gets anything more than limited interest? Speaking of "Rover". Does everyone remember John Mackey? Back in the mid-90s I think he was listed as playing that particular position. He was sometimes a 5th DB, but lined up as an LB on many plays as well. Really tough, hard-nosed, classic type of player. He was fun to watch.

  3. If American college soccer were really helping develop world class players, there would be a lot more of those Genk and Bayern youth wanting to cross the Atlantic to play and get a world class education. If US soccer is to ever seriously compete for World Cup titles, collegiate soccer will be like college baseball, with not many top domestic players included. But we lack a domestic league with that mindset, as Jared rightly pointed out.

  4. To summarize, ACC schools do not return Akron's call, turn them down if they do, and a loss to Akron could result in the firing of their head coach. Despite that, these schools were close to inviting Akron to join their conference? We're "idiots" not to believe that?

  5. He knows so much about the program that Mrs. Dambrot had to come on here to correct him.

  6. This is so silly, and adds nothing to the discussion. The truth is, you have no idea how, and to what level that most of us are connected to our Athletic Program. How could you know that?

  7. I think some of us understand that UA is trying to improve the schedule, but at the same time, I can't understand the pi$$y attitude towards fans wanting that stronger schedule or challenging the credibility of statements about things like UA joining the ACC or questioning UA turning down $60K to play. It's a DISCUSSION based forum, not an "I'll take my keyboard and go home now" forum because you're somehow offended by the other side of the discussion.
