  1. CK has more notes when he gets time, but I'll start. Interviewing coach after the scrimmage he mentioned that "we have a real QB competition going on." I saw the same as he did, both QB's looked good to me. Grad transfer Walter Brady was in uniform and played some. According to coach he will play defensive end. He is wearing #56 and is in the first photo here. I think our defensive line might surprise some this year. I think we are going to have a nice rotation. Dylan Meeks had two tfls. The offensive line of Sample, Ritz, Peterson, Council, and Brown were opening some inside holes for some nice runs on first down. Akron track hurdler Brandon Michell has apparently been working hard on catching balls. He came up with some nice catches yesterday, and looks to be a big tall 6'7" target that runs well. He is wearing #81. Others I noticed playing WR yesterday included McGriff, Scippio, Stewart, Dixon, Williams. MTB was in uniform, and warmed up, but didn't play this week. Keyondre White runs hard. Deltron got some carries yesterday. Van looked good. Suggs played well. Abraham Alce didn't play (minor injury). Redshirt freshman TE Maverick Wolfey is going to be active in the offense, he has a talent that can't be ignored. Denzel Butler was out this week, but was very active helping the younger guys on the sideline. Alvin Davis played CB to fill in. An anonymous coach told me Alvin was just playing there because they wanted to get there best 11 on the field for now. "Alvin is such a good football player, he can play anywhere." Redshirt freshman db, Jordyn Riley is impressive in my opinion. He stood out to me. Freshman DB Rich Hall is a physical player. The defense caused multiple turnovers yesterday. Not a good day for field goal kicking.

  2. I know you root for us when we're not playing the Cyclones, but I though you might be just trying to get a good seat on the bandwagon as the RooCrew kicks it into high gear! We'll be traveling to Ames for the game, so I'll be looking at your very informative and much appreciated posts with all the parking/tailgating info as the game gets a little closer.

  3. Would love to hear how the QB's looked. I think if you read the tea leaves Alex is really gaining on Kato. TB mentioned he was getting some reps with the 1s so I'm assuming the race has to be open.

  4. Yes, currently the 2018 Zips look like a group of talented young men but not yet a team who know each other. I saw players among the "starters", the 2nd team, and the third team, who could contribute to the starting lineup or be first off the bench. Unfortunately, we did not see the beautiful game to which we are accustomed, but I know our players and coaches will work hard to change that. Their first official practice was only a few days before this match...Wednesday, August 8th. What we saw last night is part of the process of integrating 19 new players into Akron soccer. I stayed for the entire 120 minutes. No place else I'd rather have been. I like watching the process as well as the finished product. Thanks to Akron and Denver for wanting to get the extra time and thanks to Denver for traveling here. For the record: Edit: Malonepioneer12, I agree with your comments about Egbo and Biros. On the 2nd team, Ivan Nikolic and Diogo Pacheco caught my attention and Braden Petno was the guy who stood out to me on the 3rd team. Congrats to Faisal Ghaffur on the lone Zips goal!

  5. Akron scored in the 30 minutes of extra time but not sure if there were any more goals. I also left a little earlier than the scheduled 120 minutes. I think Egbo will have a big year and Brios will play well as well. There will definitely be a learning curve but the individual talent is there. Hopefully the team will gel asap.

  6. Denver 1-0 win...I didn't stick around for the "extra" 30min after the game. Tough to draw anything from the match. Looked like a team of strangers that may need some time to gel. Little time spent in the offensive third. I was hoping one of the newcomers would leave me saying "wow" and wanting more, but that did not happen. Hoping CSU game gives me something to work with. Beautiful weather, so this guy not complaining!

  8. Coach Bowden told Joe Dunn that they'll have another scrimmage Saturday the 18th. I don't know a time yet but today's started at 9:30 and it was a beautiful day at the INFO.
