So what...The 7 fouls in 5 minutes to start the game is the difference. You were given at least 6 unearned points on Ft's and extra possessions and we were handcuffed the entire first half defensively, which also impacted getting easy buckets offensively... And the same thing happened during your run in the second half. Make no mistake, MAC officials are bad, and part of the reason they are bad is because they inevitably try to even things up. Again, during your run you were the beneficiary of a number of bad, bad, bad calls, one of which sent Peavy to the bench for an extended period of time -- just in time for Akron to make their run. Welcome to life in the MAC. And from our reports, we got one foul in the first half at your place as much because we were playing passively as we were the beneficiary of bad calls. As for the "up 15, not down 10" comment, you obviously were not in attendance last night. If anything, Miami should have been up even more, had they made their shots early on. Our defense was stiff, and Akron couldn't solve it. Yet, we went 2 for 7 in the first six minutes. Good defense my ass. It's that awful brand of offense where your slow stiffs take 35 seconds off the clock every time to shorten the game, so obviously there are fewer possessions and less scoring....Funny; I didn't think that Miami's offense could take credit for forcing Akron into 3-4 shot clock violations, or making the Akron offense launch hurried shots on a number of other occasions because they couldn't find the shot they wanted. Miami's DEFENSE forced Akron to play their way -- except for a stretch in the second half when Akron realized the stripes weren't going to call any contact on UA and made their run. And Akron wasn't the one serving up four point-blank blocks -- five if the non-goaltending goaltend had been called correctly. (And there are two points served right back to you...there's your ticket to OT, my friend.) Of course, where our offense did help us out -- despite our freshman PG's second half meltdown -- was having an assist/turnover ratio of >1, as opposed to UA's .9So what? My point is this: the zebras didn't win that game for us any more than they lost it for you. They sucked ass, to be sure, and there are no worse officials in the land than in the Mid-American Conference, but they didn't cost you the game. =>I would be certain that Akron lead time of possession last night.

It's all in how the games are called, and we get shafted all the time on the road. When Miami came to Akron earlier in the year, they were called for ONE frickin foul the entire first half. If the Zips got that kind of officiating yesterday, we would have been up 15, not down 10. Stop penalizing our great defense with foul calls! Good defense my ass. It's that awful brand of offense where your slow stiffs take 35 seconds off the clock every time to shorten the game, so obviously there are fewer possessions and less scoring.... =>You are partially correct. Miami's tough defense makes our opponents use the clock as well. Miami vs. opponents time of possession has been about equal every year that Coles has been the coach.

=>I based the following on a spreadsheet formula as well as my "subjective" predictions on the % chance any one MAC team would be any other MAC team. The number in parenthesis was the numbers I had before the first round games last night.% Chance of Reaching Semifinals 1. Can't: 80% (was 82.5%) 8. Buffalo: 20% (was 15%) 4. Sour grapes! This guy must be a bitter Can't fan who has never even sniffed a MAC title game and never will. Huskies by 24? Who knows, maybe, but I doubt it. If the first meeting is any indication then the Zips will be heading back to Detroit after Christmas. How many of you guys received a call from the UA ticket office? They called today to ask if I was going to the game. I would assume that they are trying to contact all of the season ticket holders. That's an effecticve sales approach. We need the nation to show up 15 - 20,000 strong. Go Zips! =>15 to 20k strong would probally be much more than Toledo brought last year.
-
=>Aw, you're just jealous of us RedHawks because we bring 14k to our home games versus your piddly 12k.

=>This is totally screwed up. The Zips are the only bowl eligible team not to make a bowl (or than those who backed out on purpose). The Zips, despite a #70 RPI and co-#2 record in the MAC, the Zips get the distinctive honor of being the #1 RPI team to be left out of the postseason after the NIT snub (other than those who backed out of purpose). My condolences.

=>I have been told by someone in the know that Akron had the baskets move by remote control whenever Miami was shooting forcing Miami to make just over 50% of the free tosses and only 2 three pointer the entire night. The MAC is planning an investigation of this 'Roo fiendish evilness. You all will not get away with it! Anyway, other than the cheater, nice win for you last night. From the radio it sounded like an ugly, defensive war between two teams who really wanted to win the game. I just hope you all can live with yourselves by almost ruining the MAC top hope for an at-large.

=>This is a no-brainer. I felt Akron's Football team really was supposed to do well. I always considered them a contender with a veteran star QB in Frye. Akron was coming off of a 7-5/5-3 season 3rd place season. Akron had Miami and Marshall at home. I actually thought the lousy start was indicative that the football coach was doing a poor job. Akron did right the ship so my opinion changed to an extent. Keep in mind though, despite getting 5 bowl invites, it really was a down year for the league (MAC only won 3 non-league Division I games in the regular season-2 vs. Big East last place Temple and 1 vs. SEC last place UK). The MAC was "oafer" in the regular season vs. non-BCS teams (our supposed peers). Per Sagarin, the MAC was not only the worst DI-A conference, but was ranked behind 3 DI-AA leagues as well. Akron and Marshall were 2 of the 6 top teams in the league, yet both went 0-3 in non-league games and each lost AT HOME to a Sun Belt team (MTSU & Troy). I am happy Miami won the MAC East, but I do not think it was such a great accomplishment. Akron going 6-5/6-2 was not that impressive for the same reasons plus the expectations on Frey. In basketball, the MAC is having a great year. 8 teams in the top 100 of the RPI. MAC is 67-48 in Division I games (much better record obviously if count non-DI wins). The MAC in 10th overall in Sagarin and RPI (ahead of WAC, Moun. West, A10, and Sun Belt). Last year Akron was a paultry 13-15/7-11, RPI of 201, and tied for last in the East. The year, Akron was supposed to finish behind Miami, Buffalo, and Can't. Akron is 15-7/9-5, RPI of 46, and tied with the second best record in the league. Oh, Akron lost Wood as well. IN SUMMARY: Akron Football: With Frey, met expectations. Went from 7-5/5-3 (3rd East) to 6-5/6-2 (tied 2nd/3rd) in a very weak MAC basketball year. Akron Basketball: Exceeded expectations even before loss of Wood. Went from 13-15/7-11 (last East) to currently 15-7/9-5 (2nd MAC overall) in a very strong MAC football year. Brookhart accomplishments are a little overrated. KD's seem very underrated.

I hate to point out the obvious to you, but if WE didn't play well, it says less than nothing about the Bobcats, and you must have bigger problems than you think. That said, I believe we are far from perfection but improving by leaps and bounds in almost every game. =>I think that was his point.

=>What happened to the MAC team icons?
-
=>Likewise. However, in the interest of the MAC. Akron should let Miami win to help our at-large chances.

=>No. All MAC teams will lose money on the bowl games with the possible exception of the Motor City Bowl. Even the Herdiban had to have their bowl trips subsidized by the other MAC members when they made their bowl trips.

Molluatt- Any chance of Miami opting for the Hawaii Bowl over SVB if they lose to Toledo and Hawaii loses to MSU ? SVBowl seems to be very lowly rated by most. Just wondering if you have heard any talk along these lines. With recent MAC commitments to bowls, it's down to the Hawaii/MSU game for Akron and then up to other teams where we might end up. Leftover spot seems to be in Hawaii as most have been saying all along. Can everyone else hear the Hawaii Bowl committee praying for a Hawaii win ?? =>The only think I have seen regarding Miami and Hawaii is a College Football News.com bowl projection today that has Miami in that bowl. I have not heard Hawaii mentioned from anyone connected with Miami be it fan or connection with Miami.
