If you guys think anyone outside of Akron actually cares about Akron football, you are kidding yourself and it shows on this thread. Be grateful they gave you 2 minutes. OSU is bigger in AKRON, of course they are going to get more coverage from a Cleveland news station.
-
You guys are a joke. You hype and hype a guy and then when he doesn't commit, all of a sudden he is "not that good anyways". Good luck at MSU, Johnny. Way to take advantage of the exposure of playing in a BCS Conference.Since when are people skills required to play football??
-
I agree sgm. Charlie Frye will never start an NFL game again, and most likely will be out of the league in 3 years. Nobody wants a guy who can't tell his team apart from the opponents. He went from Charlie Frye: Starting NFL QB to Charlie Frye: Unemployed guy with white trash mustache.
-
Charlie Frye should never be allowed to put on an NFL uniform again. He is a miserable failure as a quarterback.
-
Wow. I can't believe anyone actually cares about this. Do we have that much of an inferiority complex at Akron that we get this worked up over "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"???
-
akronad, I never said I was a D-I caliber player, I just said Keppler wasn't. And he isn't, nor never will be. Go ahead. Offer Keppler. Waste a scholarship for the next 4-5 years on a guy who won't see the field for one play. He is the most overhyped high school quarterback I have ever seen. There is only one way an interception isn't a QB's fault: If it is tipped by his receiver, and I don't remember any of Keppler's numerous picks in that game being tipped. He just didn't see the safety coming over the top. If Yost says otherwise, then he is looking through navy and orange glasses.
-
I played for Tallmadge. I pancaked Gary Somerville. Twice. The City does not have a tradition of producing very good LB's. You are nuts. I played against D-I players, and Keppler is not one. Sorry. I just hope Akron doesn't drink the Beacon Journal Kool-Aid like you have. Now that I go back to your post.. Somerville?? The best LB in the area??? He got rolled over against any good teams he played. There were 4 LB's on Tallmadge's 2005 team alone that I can tell you from experience were better than Somerville. Not to mention Corey Welch from Green, who ACTUALLY went D-I, Dave Crowley from Wadsworth, who would snap Somerville in half like a toothpick, and Dan Dario from Hoban, who was the best LB I played against in my entire high school career. All of those guys were better than Somerville. I love the people that hype Ellet like they are some sort of football powerhouse. They were supposed to beat up on Tallmadge this year after my class graduated and Kepp came in and threw 4 picks en route to a 31-0 loss. If he does that against a secondary full of a couple D-III guys and a bunch of guys who aren't even going to play college ball, what will he do against D-I level competition? The same thing he does against every competition: get happy feet in the pocket and throw into double/triple coverage.

"Tried and tested Charlie Frye"???? More like tried and failed Charlie Frye.
-
man this guy is very bitter about somthing that is going on in his life ha ha. this is the 2nd post of his that i have read with him bashing someone who is a very good athlete. Or I look at things in an unbiased, reasonable manner. Charlie Frye is indeed a horrible NFL quarterback.
-
No, no he wouldn't. When I played against him and saw him play, it wasn't that it was his receivers making mistakes or anything. He was telegraphing his passes and throwing into multiple coverage. I don't think he has ever looked off a safety in his life. Sure, he may have a good arm, but that alone doesn't make him a D-I prospect. And the City Series "always" putting out good LBs? The last LB to go D-I from the City was Brian Howe from Ellet, and only God knows where he is now. I know a D-I QB when I see one, and he is definitely not. And when I played against him, he didn't play one snap at LB. He is a D-II player at best, and most likely a D-III or NAIA guy. I know he must be your boyfriend or something so this must be pretty tough to accept, but its true. He would not see one single snap of playing time at the U of Akron.
-
I have not talked to him, but I have played against him. He is by no means a D-I QB. Not now, not ever. He plays in the Akron City Series, which outside of Buchtel may be the worst football conference in the state of Ohio. It would be a waste of a scholarship. He is afraid to get hit, and he throws into double and triple coverage consistently. He is great against the City Series teams, sure, but that is like playing against Pop Warner level competition. Look at his games against good teams in the last couple years, it is not pretty. He is the most over-hyped athlete I think I have ever seen. The Akron Beacon Journal would probably marry him if they could. Giving this kid a scholarship would be a monumental mistake by JD Brookhart. And Keppler as a defensive player? Wow. Ha.
-
Charlie Frye is horrible and he needs to shave that white-trash mustache. He couldn't hit water from a boat. Unless the water was wearing the opposing team's jersey, then his throw will be right on the money.
-
Well, first Kentucky would have to fire Billy Gillespie. But, other than that, about the same thing that will happen to UA when Dambrot realizes it is and always will be a mediocre mid-major school that averages about 1500 people at home games and decides to jump to a better situation.

I can imagine there will be a day and a time when there aren't so many posts like this on this board. I don't know, say, September 8, 2007, around, ahh, who knows, like 7 P.M.?

Yeah, they're beatable. Lets look at who they lost to: Florida, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. Akron could take their 5 best players from the past 50 years and put them on the floor and still wouldn't be able to beat any of those teams. If you guys think Akron could beat OSU at the JAR, you are out of your minds. What, you think an arena that seats 5,000 and a student section that is smaller than the pep band is going to faze Ohio State, who has played at places like Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan State, Florida, and North Carolina? You guys act like the JAR is some incredible home-court advantage. Go ahead, cite all those home victories, let me ask you this: Who have they beaten in those home victories? MAC teams? Austin Peay? No teams that have even sniffed the top 25 or an at-large NCAA bid. I've been to quite a few Akron games the last couple years and even with one of their best teams ever, they couldn't fill the JAR except for against Can't State. I was at high school games where the crowd was louder. I can't believe you think that UA would have any kind of advantage at the JAR, let alone the kind that would give them a chance against a team of the quality of Ohio State.
-
Wow. Ohio State afraid of Akron? Do you realize what Greg Oden would DO to Romeo? Holy moly. There would be blood on the floor. Mike Conley would run circles around the Zips. I am a Zips fan, but I am also a realist. And I also realize that 60% of the Zips fans who post on this website are blind idiots.
-
Take a long hike, Thad. He's NOT a suckeye. He's a Zip. He's kept it real and he's a homeboy. He's not from Columbus.I sure hope the national media doesn't start associating LeBron with Columbus State! We have to have a LeBron-Akron association!"LeBron's a Zips fan!" Clap, clap, clap clap clap. "LeBron's a Zips fan!" Clap, clap, clap clap clap! Man, you guys are delusional. It is well-documented that LeBron is a huge Ohio State fan. The only reason he comes to the Akron games is to see Romeo and Dru play. I mean, if he is such a huge Zips fan, why didn't he go to any football games? Meanwhile, I know he attended a couple OSU football games. LeBron is not a Zips fan, and you will see that next year when he is no longer attending anything Akron.
-
I am as big of an Akron fan as the next guy, but you guys are idiots. Upset Ohio State? In your dreams. Don't be stupid. Akron doesn't have the athletes (or the size) to hang with OSU. They'd be lucky to break the 40-point barrier.
-
Holy 37 points. You sure it was Romeo, and not LeBron??
-
I think this team's best asset, at least in the MAC, is their athleticism on the defensive end of the floor. When they decide to buckle down and defend the rim, they are very tough to score on. Especially with long, athletic shotblockers in the paint like Quade Milum and Romeo Travis. The way they play defense is also important because they block shots and force turnovers that lead to fast breaks and easy points the other way.
-
halfcourt shot at the OU home game
Apollo Creed replied to akZORROrowdy's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
You are an idiot. -
Where and when can Akron Students get MAC tournament tickets? Do we get a discount or anything? Any info would be GREAT.
-
Too many turnovers. Dumb passes. The guards are better than that, they were just making stupid plays in the early 2nd half. Why are you trying to throw a pass the length of the court with like 13 minutes left in the game? THINK before you DO.
-
Both sides were equally pitiful at the Ball State game. What a joke. You guys want the University to give you more privileges? Then fill the AK-Rowdies seats at EVERY game, and not just the ones that are vs. Can't State or are on national TV.

How low does the wind chill have to be for the UofA to cancel classes?
