This is an excellent article that I encourage all to read.  Tom Luntz is right.  We will have arrived as a soccer nation when players developed organically, playing incessant “pick-up” ball.  No coaches!  No referees!

USA has embraced the business of soccer more than it has the pure love for the game.  This is changing, but too slowly.

I was down in Sarasota two weeks ago and drove over to IMG Academy, and you are right....it is Corporate Soccer City.  Where the best (that can afford it) are in a resort like atmosphere with facilities out the ying yang.  But it’s not thestreet kids there, it’s all the club kids who’s parents have been able to spend lavishly on travel clubs since they were 5years old, camps every season and off season, tournaments around the world, and coaches and tutors to help with soccer and school.  Mostly so they wiwll meet the right contacts to get them in the right schools and the right ODP programs.  Not looking for the “organic” kids like fknbuflobo says.  Don’t get me wrong, IMG does produce good kids and players, but it’s rare to see an inner-city kid down there for anythng but basketball, and they give scholarships.

The little banner at the bottom of the screen when they were showing the new time included tge CBS Sports banner, so I think there is a chance they will air it.

Right now their schedule for 1:00 pm tomorrow shows a live auto race from noon until 2 and then live Pro Bull Riding from Raleigh NC fro 2 until 4:30....we can hope?

We have dissected CP for decades now, some since before he came to Akron.  We know he has warts; he is not perfect.  He can be annoyingly stubborn.  Arrogant.

We also know that CP is a natural, perhaps even gifted, leader of men.  He is passionate about soccer, in the very essence of that word.  USSF could do much worse than Caleb Porter.

IMHO CP  got a bum's rap, mainly from Jurgen after the Olympic team failure to qualify, but I am/was too close to the situation with his tenure at the U.  Gulati is an ass, and until he is sent packing by the Directors or resigns, things will stay the same.

I'd love to think Caleb is to be considered, but not by the current regime....

  4. And you can have a "bad" result....or the manager just resigned to the fact, say "at least we got a result" leading by a goal and giving up the equalizer in the closing moments or stoppage time....being an arsenal fan,  fknbuflobo can relate to that the past few years!  :D   BTW, my conversion from Gooner to a Kopite isn't quite working out the way I anticipated....but at least I'm not constantly screaming at the telly about Wenger and the despised Kroenke!!!

We might be able to hit 10k before the University and whatever sponsors buy tickets to meet NCAA guidelines.

Kreed's probably right.  We've got two Tuesday night games in November that will sorely impact attendance.

    I beg to differ.

This will likely be the rare year when the MAC gets an At Large bid.

Both WMU and AKR are currently well into the top 48 in RPI.

    Currently #11 and #20 respectively.

Both teams will be hurt some by playing the rest of the MAC.

But they are both probably going to make the tourney, seeded high, low, or otherwise.

Remember, NCAA could not care less about any poll.

NCAA Tournament seeding is 99% straight RPI.

Hope you’re right partner, but the NCAA also could care less about “little conferences” for more than 1 team, you know and have seen that happen time and time again.

  7. Women’s Swimming and Diving started Friday with a total drubbing of Youngstown State.  Not a true test but a nice start.  S&D should chase #5 MAC title.  Madison Myers just gets better and will possibly be National candidate.  The Vargas “sisters” (no relation!) looked good, as did Sadie Fazekas and Paloma Marrero.  Vic Shaffer will be back by Zippy Invite in December.  Lots of newcomers too that will challenge vets.  Diving may be down.  Good things ahead...

  8. I liked what I saw, and also am going to bed happy.  The running game by committee worked well, except Van Edwards seemed the weakest in his reps.  I thought Thomas did well today, although the first few series he really got away with a few that maybe/shoulda been intercepted.  But then he did a good job.  I had my binocs on him most of the game and he seemed to be more confident and didn't throw any tantrums.  I disagree with some about Kwads.  Maybe not the best route runner but with that speed and with Thomas' arm, I see lots of TDs ahead for these two.  Andrew Hauser was the defensive player of the game, by far!  He had a million tackles. was everywhere out there.  It was nice to see the insertion of Kato as a change of pace but Thomas was having a solid game, and came back in strong.  But here is the GREATEST news....no turnovers.  Zero, nada, zilch.  And secondly....no meaningful penalties.  a 5 yarder for offsides on #75 that didn't hurt as the Zips scored a few plays later, and a block in the back on an interception return.  I mean, doesn't that impress anyone else on this board??  And the slant passes were excellent calls and well executed as well.  I know the haters are gonna hate and tell me that none of this matters because Ball State was a bad team....but it's still the best I've felt leaving Info in a while....Good night, sleep tight, don't let the b**chers bite.

  9. Just thinking a little about this on a plane flight home Friday...don’t know if it has been mentioned before and if so, sorry.  Should we believe Addidas was the only company doing this?  Nike, UnderArmour clean hands?  Could one of the competitors be the original tipster on this scandal, with tons to gain from Addidas’ plight?
