  1. Got to watch the Honey Badger play today vs. Liverpool, as Newcastle drew at home 1-1.  DeAndre played a solid match, and really seemed like the point of all attacks.  Commentator Arlo White complimented Yedlin when he was discussing striker Salah – "He is undoubtedly quick, as are three other Liverpool players, but none would be faster in the 100 yard dash than DeAndre Yedlin."

DY seemed to be in a more central midfield or defensive mid position today rather than fullback.  Lee Dixon, analyst also noted that Yedlin was selected for the U.S. squad for the final qualifiers, and that he was "desperately needed for the crucial matches".

I do believe I said two things:  One, REGULATION.  And two, I don't know what a good solution is.  But look, I don't need to have a solution to acknowledge a problem/point it out.  I guess the third option is people just stop being greedy, manipulative, immoral assholes.  But knowing the human condition; we can't expect people to be that way.

The NCAA says it's rules exist to protect the integrity of College Athletics as a "pure sport" Bullshit.  The NCAA's rules exist to protect the gravy-train.

Not just the gravy train, but all the big-time institutions that they all are from.  The committees are stacked so completely in favor of the power conferences it is pathetic.  Especailly when it comes to sports where teams are selected and or seeded in national competitions.

  3. Just got back to hotel in Atlanta after watching Atlanta beat the snot out of Philadelphia 3-nil, but had my cell phone tuned in to ESPN3 and watched our Zippies DESTROY MSU 4-1.  Atlanta's 3rd goal coincided almost exactly with Joao's goal for #4 for Akron.  I was standing up cheering the Zips score when Atlanta scored.  Everyone in my section thought I had ESP!  I explained I had ESPN3!  Anyway, ME_87 had hoped I would regret being in Mercedes Benz Stadium instead of Cub Cadet, and he was right!  I am sorry I wasn't there, but glad I could keep up with the match.  Looks like Z.I.P. had a field day in Honolulu with posts!  Love ya, man!  Love the Zips more!

This was soooo good to experience, although Z.I.P., you can keep this heat in Aloha-land!  The Zips looked strong and organized early on, and when Sam got #1 it was like the demons were released from all the road matches.  Egdo was a madman out there, and I agree with ME that Nick looked back in match fitness.  Should have been a PK for the Zips that was waived off too.  Cordiero's save came at a very opportune time to save the momentum we had picked up.  And Ben's save was such a great guess/reaction.  This really sets up Wednesday night vs MSU well.

Stayed and watched the women, and it was another L for  great bunch of kids.  Friday  night they played a great second half to get back in their match with NIU, and today they held Western Michigan to no shots on goal in the first half, and kept it to 1 shot on goal until the 72 minute, then back to back Bronco goals in 5 minutes put this one in the L column.  Only 100 people there, wish some of the men's fans would have stuck around for a little support, but oh well....They are still a better team than their record shows, just VERY young.

Hey YipaZip....As you can see, I did already post about the match....

  5. Okay, had a few Titos so I'm gonna share...besidesmy love of Zips soccer, I have been a huge Gooner since The Invincibles days.  I've also been a Cleveland Browns fan.  When the Browns were going through all the ineptitude of the Lerner days and they traded Trent Richardson, I was in a bar in Atlanta, and while whining to the bartender about the trade he convinced me to switch to be an Atlanta Falcon fan.  I wandered across the street to the Wal-mart and bought a Falcon hat and a key fob.  The Falcons promptly lost 5 straight games.  This year I became so f-ing enraged with Arsene Wenger returning and Stan Kroenke's ineptitude as an owner, I decided to become a Liverpool fan.  Bought a training jersey and a scarf...they promptly gave up a Champions League draw to Sevilla and lost 5 nil to Man City...go figure.  Would love to see Mike instead of Wenger...I'd become a Gooner again in a heartbeat....instead, "I'll never walk alone...."

I drove through Akron last week.
Akron seems like one big construction zone right now.
I feel bad for out of towners because with MLK expressway closed and grant street off ramp closed it is a challenge to get downtown from 77.

So right dre...watched my daughter run the marathon Saturday.  Went to my usual spot on Glenwood to watch her run by, then tried to go to the old Metzgers to pick her up there, and had a helluva time trying to go through allthe detours and the road closings for the race...GAWD!

Actually the game opened as a PK and now has moved to Akron (-3).  Clearly someone thinks we'll win... Yikes.

Myself and 5 friends are making the trip to BG for the game.  I tried getting a hold of athletics to get some tickets in the "Akron section," but haven't been able to get an answer.  Anyone have any ideas on that?

Call 1-888-99AKRON and ask the rep whether they have Akron Secton ticks available through IMG

  8. A question I forgot to ask....I know or read that the U is going to fund-raise and get gifts-in-kind to support the addition of baseball, bu is that the same methodology they will use to add the women's lacrosse programs?  Is that, too, going to be community funded or come through the U's budget?

It would have to exist in some kind of vortex, or else they would have to tear down most of the campus to fit it in.

Was actually in Akron and stopped by the Bowl last weekend. The entire area of town just seems like it's been lost to a time in the distant past when Akron was in its heyday.

Yeah, scottditzen is right.  I had to detour through that area last week as I76 was closed for an accident, and it was rather strange.  The bowl of course, but the airport looked real run down, the hanger needs serious paint, but that won't happen.  Dilly's is about the only active place, with the Runway looking closed and whatever the Hell Ice was/is looking that way as well.  Even the custard stand looked like it was about to fall over....

  10. You know, when you think about it, we, or Akron, or Ohio or the U.S. Government sure got its moneys worth out of the Rubber Bowl.  Look at how long it lasted, how many years it was in service to all sorts of events.  K92's link to the facebook page with all the cool old memorabilia form the Bowl really struck that theme home.  Now just look across the landscape and see how many taxpayer funded facilities are sitting idle while another taxpayer funder facility was brought on line.  I was in Michigan a lot this past year and have clients in the shadow of the Palace on Auburn Hills, and then drive down the road to Pontiac and see the ruble that was the Silver Dome.  Of course we know what happened here with the Coliseum vs. Gateway.  And I'm going to Atlanta this week, and I will be able to see a new bazillion dollar facility for the Falcons, built right next to a perfectly good and usable Georgia Dome....right next to it for crying out loud!  So Bang for our Buck  (or whomever's) was sure on the positive side.

    from the beacon

Zips host the #1 team in the nation on Wednesday night?  Will the beacon send an actual Beacon reporter?  Will the plain dealer send someone to cub cadet?   sadly, I bet no on both

Expect to see Brad Bourneval again Wednesday night to cover for ABJ/Ohio.com.  No chance to see a PD reporter, or even a freelancer.
