Nice to get him. Also had FBS offers to Kent and CMU per Scouting Ohio. I need to find my way to an East game or two this year to get a look at some of these guys in person.

Also this article from scout at the beginning of the month.
C'mon down to Info on a Friday night and watch them along with another 500 people. You think the Zips have attendance issues?????? I'd rather walk over to Cub Cadet and watch Friday night Zip soccer, but that's just me...

Can't wait to see more of the same "when you just killed a Golden Flash!" (not literally, of course...p,c, disclaimer here)

Still at six but I took the risk and asked for a table of eight. Gotta be able to find two more people that would like to go. Its just a request not a guarantee so I will let you know when and what I hear back from the Canton Civic Center.
Hey there! Did we let this idea die or are we still thinking of doing something?

Blessed that at least one got the school's name right!!

That hack Bob Dyer has a lazy awful hit piece about Groce and the university in the beacon today. It's filled with accusations and slurs to stir people up. For example it hints that Tom Crean was a candidate for the job. But be careful with that wording because Dyer says Crean was one of candidates who was "suggested" or applied for the job. Article says players "wanted" Charles Thomas but didn't say he actually applied for the job. Article goes on about this $60k but fails to mention what Dambrot was paid or that for the first two years of Groces contract we will be saving close to 500k each year (rough guess) and that his 3rd year salary will still be a savings from Dambrot. It's just a nasty, negative piece unsupportive of the team or the university. Have any of you seen Dyer at a game??? He mentions a letter from the players. Could he even name two starters if asked? And, LeBron writes a letter asking for a job for his friend who has no D1 level experience. So? Why didn't Dyer write about who the final three or four candidates were and the decision making process? Article implies that the 60k was just for Groce. What about all the other candidates it vetted? Yes, Groce was known quantity to us but the others probably weren't. I could go on and on.
I've been on a rant the last few months about the ABJ and especially this weekend - see post in other forum - but this is ridiculous. As discussed, the Zips have a new NCAA Champion, four new All Americans. Ziprulz points out the tennis team is ranking way high, the athletic teams wins trophies for overall sports in all categories, lots of academic all stars...but the ABJ/Ohio.com can only find this piece of lintpunt to write a crapsandwich article about something that ALL schools do to try to find a new coach quickly. Did this mental midget even check to see how much OSU just spent to find their new BB coach? How about looking at that article earlier on the Plain Dealer page and see how overpaid some of the Big Schools coaches in sports like rowing and fencing make. Better yet, how about the ABJ opening up their books for all to see how much they pay/spend on finding new CEOs or Publishers, or whatever they hire? I guarantee they didn't find their managing editor on LinkedIn. How much did they pay a search firm to find the current leaders at this dying news fishwrap?

Fantastic finishes by our two Zip women. Jackie Siefring finishes 5th in the Heptathalon and Nikki Manson finished 5th in the high jump. Fantastic! Two All Americans on both sides - McClain and Ludwig for the guys and Manson and Siefring for the women. 4 first team All Americans!
Good showing for the Zips, and proud of all 6 that made the trip.

Tough night for Zip men. Stine no heights at first bar in high jump and Phil Jagers again under-performs on big stage. Not taking anything from these guys, great athltes and they made it to the Nationals, but thought we'd see scoring from both...
UPDATE - Jackie Siefring in solid 8th out of 24 after 4 events in Heptathalon...3 events tomorrow.

So...just read that this is a REAL MAC league match, they join league immediately, not 2018. Great News!

Yeah skip....I mean you used THREE superlatives in 9 words here...More ways, not just one, most people, not just some, and even imagine instead of just imagine....so it must be something?

Wonderful! Get an early glimpse of the MAC's new sixth team, at home, on a Friday night under the lights....heart of the season too. Three home matches in 8 days with Cleve State and Notre Dame book-ending this one. Should make for some good football for the home Rowdies and fans.

I sent this e-mail to dwerbeck at Ohio.com just now.....Shameful lack of anything on an NCAA DI National Champion...
Good morning,
I know you get complaints from the U of A faithful about coverage of Zips sports, but would just like to add my two cents here...
Matt Ludwig, a sophomore from the University of Akron won the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championship in the pole vault. The second vaulter from Akron to do so in the past three Championships outdoors. That was Wednesday night. I realize the Beacon/Ohio.com think they need to be the "bringer of all things Cleveland" to their readers and on-line viewers, but it sure would have been nice to notice this accomplishment. I could even understand a little if Matt wasn't from the area, but he lives in Chardon, and attended Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin HS. Certainly George Thomas or even an intern could have taken the press release and wrote something. One of these days maybe you and the decision makers at the Beacon/Ohio.com might wake up to the fact that there is a segment of us out here that don't need a daily update on Ohio State sports, nor all things happening in Cleveland sports, since there are other papers/websites that fit that need. Maybe give a local flavor/taste to things and support your local University, and it might just reap an increase in readership and revenue. Maybe not, but have you at least tried it?
Thanks for letting me air my concern

DeAndre (miss his honey badger hair!) sure looked better last night when they brought him up from FB to press the issue more. His assist and the passes on the second goal by The Kid was/were pretty good....

Wow great news! does anyone know what the Zips record is for points scored in an NCAA championship meet?
Outdoors - From 1970 through 1999 we only scored on the men's side once - 1982 - and we had 2 points that season.
We scored 2 points again in 2000 (64th), then didn't score again until 2005 when we got 5.5 points (45th). We had 4 points in 2006 (46th), missed out in 2007, then had 2 points in 2008 (67th). Zero for 2009. 3 points in 2010 (55th), 2 in 2011 (58th), and Z for Zero in 2012. In 2013 we scored 6 points (38th), 11 points in 2014 (20th), 16 in 2015 (12th!) and 10 last year (23rd). So long answer to your question - I believe the team record is 16 points.
With Matt's win and Terrell's 4th we pick up 15 points, and we have Cody Stine in High Jump and Phil Jagers in Discus yet to compete on Friday. Cody could surprise, but Phil should score, if he ever gets over the stage fright he seems to get in big-time events. Of stops looking over his shoulder at his Big Brother Reggie at the hated Kent-State-Still-Sucks.....

YES!!! We have another Gold Medalist in Track and Field! Matt Ludwig just won the NCAA Pole Vault with a jump of 18' 4 and 1/2 inch!!!! Hit the third and final jump at the height, beating a Cinci Bearcat. He's trying now at 18 - 10 1/2 but it doesn't matter.
ZACH - you beat me to the punch!!!
And Terrell McLain just finished 4th in the Long Jump, with two of his best jumps coming in the final 3, he jumped 2 feet better in the last two jumps!!

I will stay for women's match. They need to show me (us) something this year! Mediocrity don't fly at Akron!
Well, at least they'll be two of us there...that's a start

I got one of my wishes, just found out. I was putting the men's soccer schedule into my calendar, and also the women's, and I find that we once again will have a men/women doubleheader, first time in like 5 years. Sunday September 24th - Men vs. UMass Lowell at noon and women vs. Western Michigan at 3. Maybe a few fans will stick around and give some support to the distaff side. I f we only had a Marketing Dept. who could put together something for this other than "first 100 students get a free something they'll throw away tomorrow." Maybe something for the faithful Men fans to stick around for....

Anybody know of a local establishment showing Thursday night's USA vs. T & T on FS1? If so, anyone up for a meet and greet (and view and brew?)?

I'm going to go slightly off topic here but SIUE coming over for soccer got me thinking. Their "normal" league for athletics is the OVC. They were playing soccer in the MVC and now are moving to the MAC. It seems pretty haphazard to me which schools play in other conferences for sports their league does not sanction. Would there be anything to gain if these three conferences (MAC, OVC, MVC) made an agreement regarding taking in members from one another for what are traditionally non-revenue sports? For example the MAC has 6 mens tennis teams (one being Binghampton) and the MVC has 5 (one being Stony Brook). It seems like going together would help scheduling, maybe travel, etc...
I'm not sure if there is anything to gain but I would think it would be worth looking at. Any thoughts?
Stevey Me Boy, I like this idea. I mean, I didn't "Like this", I mean I think the MAC Men's non-rev sports could benefit greatly from this. Track and Field is getting close to being a 2 team sport. Men's swimming and diving like-wise. Who knows about wrestling, gymnastics, etc.? You might make a good AD some day afterall....
