We'll see. This is a mediocre Akron team by our standards so I think playing a rival adds a variable the zips don't need - If nothing else just bc of the physicality of a rivary game. They might squeak past KSU (bc they are buns) but does it matter if they handedly lose the next one bc of burnout...? I'd be curious to see the same chart bifurcated with the next game a team plays after the third rivalry match

Beating the same team three times in a season is very difficult. Nonetheless, if that same team is a rival then there's an added level of emotion & heightened play at factor by the rival - idk if Akron needs that or is ready for that right now given recent play... I'd take WMU but that's now seemingly an afterthought.

Very. The 2019 season felt like Akron shot the lights out between LCJ, Cheese, X, & (my favorite Zip) Banks. Maybe that's bc we scored so many points, we regressed to the mean. Nonetheless, I do remember Trimble was a liability but I think he was in his bag for the 2019 season & dropped off in 2020.

UNLV finally won a big game last night!

Doesn't matter the seed, Akron won't be able to string together enough wins back-to-back to make it to the dance. Not much hope for a team that can't score and gets out rebounded right and left.

I made this statement earlier in the year and still stand by it: this is one of coach Groce's worst and definitely softest teams. The boys looked more timid than anything, smh & w/o MAC leading scorer Acuff too!

I've seen refs change a 3 to a 2 or vice-versa but I've never seen them overturn themselves like that. Shame on the MAC!

Akron is last in MAC FB for grossing revenue but first in MBB for grossing revenue. Even with this, football still brings in more $$ which is why I say the MAC has more longevity than the A10 or similar conferences. With the sheer amount of money going into football, if I was a university president and I didn't have a FB program, I'd want to wet my universities's beak - especially in today's day & age

I like you - you're intellectual. Do you think the money from MAC football would offset the A10's top down approach? I know they currently don't have a FB program (like Vermont) but, they could assemble a team quickly and likely be a contender. I read part of an article before the paywall prop populated & it said the main reason VCU doesn't have a football program is bc of the start-up cost to only play FCS ball. Basically the ends didn't justify the means but would a change in conference offset this? UMass seems to think so

VCU being in the MAC would benefit them the same way that Gonzaga benefits from being in the West Coast Conference. The WCC is way better than the MAC most years, but in Gonzaga's case , still significantly below their overall prestige. Obviously with the emphasis on $$$ some smaller conferences will go defunct, others will expand. I think the MAC has more longevity than the A10 perhaps just because of football. Take this year as an example, VCU is fourth in the A10. If they jumped to the MAC they would almost certainly be dancing even with a mediocre team by their standards. Switch out VCU for a school like Liberty and the same premise applies.

If we're poaching from the A10 I'd rather have VCU or George Mason than Richmond or Rhode Island. I like the ideas of Temple, WKU, MTSU (again) and maybe even going far east to pick up a Vermont or something.

I love this matchup - always physical & features the two best coaches in the MAC!
