I’m all for reflecting this season. 4 wins is the best we have seen in a long time. Let’s give Moorhead another year to build a winning program in year 4 with new talent and growing some we have seen progress with. I suspect couple options. New AD comes in and fires him. Moorhead decides to leave on his own. He stays another year because UA spent too much time hiring new AD and misses on new coach hiring season in December. What you all think happens?

Think now Moorhead should stay. We got 4 wins and finally making progress with his system. The new ad doesn’t have time to hire a new coach since it will be too late as we haven’t hired a new ad yet. I think Moorhead should get a chance to winning record in rebuild year 4. Or I can see him leave for OC job in NFL if he doesn’t like our new ad. Just hope we keep him and keep building our players. Restart doesn’t make sense back to 1-11 seasons.

This is the last year that we can give Moorhead a chance to keep his job. 3 years on the job with only 2 wins isn’t progress but status quo. I’m pulling him for this year but as fans of our Zips we deserve more. Still can’t understand firing Bowden 5 years ago. No more excuses on almost winning MAC games. Got to win 500 level or close to it for him to keep his job. Bowden was in a similar spot and finally in year 3 the rebuild turned around. I’m going to root for Moorhead until he proves me wrong with another 2 win season.

Any thoughts here in Moorhead’s top LT aka his associate head coach? Definitely an important hire as he his staff together?

It was great watching this presser. Seems like this administration wants to get this program back on track. Guthrie really wanted to be aggressive with this search. This press conference similar to that feel we had with Bowden in that we have some hope to turn this ship around again. Moorhead laid out a clear plan, vision and timeline of when they will hit the ground running with the staff. Glad that he wanted to be here since we announced the opening! Great to hear that he wanted the job and put Akron back in the map. Love that he mention that wagon wheel and getting us to beat KSU! Can’t wait to see our 2022 home opener will have a ton of fans at the game!!

This is starting to become a real coaching staff once again. So much more experience is pouring in from every d1 major programs. Must be a lot of people Moorhead has in mind for the biggest hires OC and DC jobs since we haven’t heard any rumors on those ones yet. Wonder if he will have all hires done by the end of this week?

I know Moorhead has no connection to him but it would be awesome if they hire former Kent State Josh Cribbs in some coaching role like special teams or WR coach. Probably won’t happen but he still lives in the area and former pro bowler nfl player would be great addition if he wanted to get into coaching. Some commute from North Royalton Ohio for him.

I wanted to start this new thread on rumors, insight and conversations with Moorhead’s new 2022 coaching staff for Akron. What are we hearing with rumors or even look at his past connections that he has worked with? Will any current staff members be retained? Can’t wait to see this dialogue takes us and to get us Zips fans some more excitement on this new staff!! Welcome to Akron coach Moorhead!! We are happy to have a real hc once again! Looking forward to the new staff and new players that you will bring to Akron.

My guess is that the news from UA will break tomorrow afternoon that Moorhead hire will be official. News conference on Monday to intro the new coach on campus. Can’t wait to make this announcement official and go to the first home game in 2022!!

He will be available soon. Riley will bring over his own Oklahoma OC and DC to USC.

Since we are waiting at the goal line with the announcement this weekend of Moorhead being named Akron HC, let’s get the ball running on position coaches coming to Akron. Who will they get at OC and DC? Any other position coaches they might sign as well. Heard someone mention Frye as OC. Anyone have any clues on his coaching tree from MS, PA, OR or his time at Akron he might tap from?

“Professionally, you have a chance to go somewhere where you can either sustain success or rebuild.” Moorhead said. “And like I said, the monetary part, everybody likes money. But I’ve gotten to a point where-- I grew up, my dad was a steelworker, had three jobs, and we were the lowest end of middle class you can be. I still don’t even know my ATM code, so I have to ask my wife for money. So the money part of it, yeah we have some of it, but I don’t have any in my wallet and have to ask her for an allowance. That part’s a little further down the trough right now.” Looks like Moorhead doesn’t money will be a huge deal. Probably fine with taking less money 750 to 900k. Hope we can get a good staff with him as well.
