You'll never soar with the eagles if you're content to walk with the turkeys. A coach creates a culture that has the team wanting to soar with the eagles. A little Class A school (less than 1000 K-12) in PA has won multiple state championships. Why? Not because it always has the best players in the conference, but because the coaches tell the turkeys they can soar with hard work, discipline, and unity. -

Right you are, sir! That is the third option implied. The "marriage." That should be foremost in hunting for a new coach because it's a win/win for the football program and the university. Those coaches aren't normally unemployed! Maybe the next choice would be to find an assistant coach that has worked under a rare one and buys into the marriage philosophy 100%. I can't help but think of the Rooney family and the Steelers. "We don't care how good you are. You don't create problems for our organization or embarrass our city. If you do, you're gone." The players and the fans respect that approach. -

So the bottom line in the hunt for a coach is this; does the new coach recruit scholar/athletes that enhance the academic stature of Akron to the majority of perspective enrollees, but not necessarily create the top 10 football program many of you want? Or, does he recruit the best players he can find regardless of the players academic ability, socially acceptable behavior, and discipline record? In so doing, lessening Akron's academic credibility, inviting possible criminal activity to campus/city, and creating a less safe environment for all students/faculty. If you choose option 2, be prepared to accept the consequences; a draw for football players, but hardly anyone else. It's a rare coach that can successfully marriage the two options. They're out there, but would they be available or even want to come to Akron? Most likely they are paid handsomely to stay at the top 10 colleges/universities. Just a grandma's thoughts. -

I want a coach that thinks out of the box and comes up with a fake punt/toss like LSU just pulled on Alabama! π -
I don't think they were prepared for each opposing team. Know thine enemy! I saw little adjustment in the defense week to week. Does the opposing team favor the run or the pass? Is the QB a mover and a shaker? Analyze the players, their quarks, their tells, weaknesses, then take advantage of them. How do you define "prepare?"

So I'm not going to get to run onto the field, belt an official, and get a scholarship from the coach? Bummer! Should I come out of retirement and apply for one of the upcoming coaching vacancies? π -
No grandson plays on that team. I use the name Grandma Football because I have 9 grandchildren. Akron is near where I used to live.

I had it once before on a free trial. Now it wants $65 to reinstate my subscription. Not paying that to watch a Zips game unless the coaches go home at halftime.

So the game is same π© different day?

I can't get the dang game on Spectrum in Florida! Tried to stream it every way I know how. Grandma Football is not a bit happy!

Exactly what I've been saying about unknown talent on the Zip sidelines and "unknowns" coming into the game (due to injuries or whatever) and making big plays. Someone is overlooking/underestimating these guys whether it be the scouting staff or ultimately the coaches. Who knows what lurks there?
-
Well, the pee wees, mighty mights, etc. are taught the basics. Maybe this team needs to go back to the basics. A gap responsibility? I get that. It's a relatively small area of which to be responsible/defend so why haven't the linemen been able to manage it? Once the ball is moved down field, disengage and go after it! Don't stand around watching the play unfold is what I'm saying when I say "follow the ball." "Everybody does it now"? Then it should be familiar, easy to read, and defend. Perhaps the Zips need to do things differently. I say, "what do I know" because there are men reading my posts who believe women know nothing about football. I'm just saving them from saying it.

It's not punishment. It's "building a team," for next year, giving the "inexperienced" experience. This season is in the dumpster, in all reality. No, they don't like losing, so if others can do the job and put up a W, they should be satisfied. Do you think the guys on the sidelines like to be on a losing team for which they couldn't even get a chance to help or show what they could do? Maybe the sidelines players should wear a sign on their helmets reading, "Yes, my team lost again, but I didn't have anything to do with it." Personally, I don't think the coaches are very good at evaluating players or we wouldn't see "unknowns" get in and make plays or them playing the shell game with 3 QBs. The coaches' "best shot to succeed?" Obviously, they haven't fired it yet or they have pee poor aim.
-
Zippyroo, I'm talking about the players that have had to stand on the sidelines since game 1 and watch this team be massacred or self-destruct week after week; 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. on the so called depth chart. The ones that maybe get to go out in special teams; you know, the placeholders the coaches really don't care about. Red shirt? Who cares! On game day, they all wear blue and gold!
-
Personally, I'd like to see the whole "first O & D teams" on the sidelines for this game. The coaches should make up squads from the players who have spent the longest time there. I doubt they can be anymore embarrassing than what we've seen. At least it would give the first stringers something to think about! I'm dang tired of hearing the losses are because the players are young and inexperienced. What the hades have they been doing during practices? Knitting potholders? How long does it take an O lineman to learn that you hit someone and hold him up so a play can develop? How long does it take for a D lineman to learn that where the ball goes, there goest thou? Push, knock down, sidestep, stiff-arm anyone that gets in your way, at least take someone out of the play so a teammate can get to the ball. When the play ends, most of my defensive players better be in close vicinity of that ball on a running play; so close they could help the runner up! The ball is the brass ring, go for it! TEs would be blockers FIRST. You don't block, you don't get a pass, pretty boy. But, I'm just an old grandma. What do I know.

The first couple of games Kato was glued to the pocket. Pretty easy to hit a stationary object.

Sameπ©, different day. Someone should apologize to the players for giving them these coaches. Good coaches take whom they have to work with (yes, young and inexperienced) and make them better. I don't see that happening. If anything, today they looked worse. A "no-name" gets into the game and makes plays. Who in hades set the depth roster? I swear they just picked names out of a hat. Irons's scrambles remind me of Steeler Big Ben. I watched the entire game, but I drank a lot of beer doing so π©

Elvis has left the stadium and taken all 100 spectators with him. The band members are asking to be excuse.

So far, I'm seeing same stuff, different day! Not much creativity. Funny how players we haven't seen come off the sidelines and make plays. They are hungry for playing time! I like a player that's hungry rather than someone who takes for granted he's going to play every week. "Oh, hum, I have to show up and play every week."
-
Just goes back to what I've being saying about players that decorate the sidelines. The coaches darlings are watched and sometimes double teamed. That leaves someone basically open. Use your no-names, coach!.
-
I'm anxious to watch the game to see if the coaches have read this thread and taken some of my advice! π But, what do I know? I'm an old grandma.π΅ Actually, I have blonde hair, but a brunette brain.
