Not our greatest game, but I find myself in a similar situation to last year. Leaving a WIN and saying "Oh boy we are in trouble if we play like that against a real team". John Groce leads the mid-major version of the Tony Bennett Virginia Hoos. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly wins, but we win!
They'll figure it out from three as long as Greg Tribble can keep passing like he was tonight.
I would LOVE more Tavari Johnson.

What do we think Jared said to Shook and Dyson after those cards? He has to be furious right? I am still baffled how they allowed themselves to get reds knowing the importance of what comes next. Relatively inexcuseable.

the MAC is SCARY right now. EMU looks great if Bates can stay out of jail, Kent looks good, and everyone else just has FELLAS that can BALL OUT. Gunna be an absolute dog fight, thankfully we have John Groce and they do not.

I really would love to see a nice bounce back game. Morgan State is not a bad team at all. They pushed a fantastic VCU team to the point where they were leading at half. But in all honesty, we clearly are not an at large team. So, I just want to see that the offense is working a little smoother. Specifically Greg, who was HIGHLY touted out of HS. I saw some comments about his commitment and he was very heavily recruited out of HS. Only came here due to the Asst. Coach being his old head coach at Huntington Prep. He has extreme athleticism and I would imagine that Groce will find ways to free him up. The problem is that we cannot hit water from a boat right now. Why would they guard Sammy, Garv, Greg, from 3? They can smush enrique out of the paint and then we are in trouble. Need to see progress tonight.

I doubt Prather will see the floor this year. Him and Prince appear to be getting the John Groce freshman treatment.

Barstool is great, controversies or not I love that we are aligning ourselves with up and coming media companies. We can only benefit from this!
I will be there with about 6 other students, we are pumped to go in person!
I am also worried about their size vs our pseudo-bigs. I have faith in Groce ball tho. Pumped to watch.

Truly just a great test upcoming with SDSU (KenPom 131) and us (KenPom 110).
Murray State (KenPom 126) was also a great test, feels good going into the season.

Hearing we scrimmaged the Alma Mater of one Ja Morant.
Seems like we looked WAYYYY better than we did against IPFW and actually beat them by 3.
Then played a third half with young guys and handled them again.
Looking good going into SDSU

I really like the idea of Prince, but seems like he is too young right now. Getting the John Groce freshman treatment it seems. Ryan Prather Jr. I would LOVE to see blow up. Would be a great Mikal Dawson filler.

I can confirm that we beat IPFW 2/3 halves that we played.
We were away this weekend but cannot confirm the opponent or outcome yet.
Rumor has it that it will be X-Garvin-GT2-Rique-Sammy with Trendon, Nate Johnson, Amani Lyles coming off bench.
I'll try to find out who we played this weekend and deliver updates.

Dawson is a glue guy in the purest sense there is. I would hate to lose him no doubt as he's valuable, but would be surprised if the opportunity to move up is there.
Trust me I would hate it to, just trying to spread news to jinx the situation. I dont know where the hell he would go thats clearly a step up, but look at Aziz. Who the hell knows.

Also, I feel like this is all doom and gloom regarding the transfer portal.
It is what it is. Basketball and especially college basketball is a living organism that changes over the years. Instead of the bitching I have full trust that John Groce and co. will take advantage of the portal more than any other coach in the MAC. We are not the only teams getting destroyed. UB has lost SIX players. SIX! OU lost Sears AND a 5 year player. It is brutal all around. We just need to take advantage of it as much as it hurts us.
All due respect to Ali and Aziz, if you dont wear the Akron jersey, you're as good as a walk on to me. I don't care who you are or what you've done for us. Clearly they thought they had better chances elsewhere. Good luck and dont let the door hit you on the ass when you leave.

Bad news to share, but I have heard rumors spreading that Mikal is next to the portal. This source also told me about Aziz before it happened. Nothing is 100% and I would LOVE to be wrong. But I would be really bummed if this were true.
Losing Ali and Aziz are one thing. Yes it does hurt, but both had GLARING weaknesses that I can spin zone in my head that we will be okay. Losing Mikal would be brutal. Having him and Greg be here for all 4 years would be absolutely incredible. Lets hope he stays!

IDGAF about any of the stats to be honest, this team fights hard, but they arent as good as years past. Sure, we know that.
Last time I checked, nothing matters until Cleveland. Kent can win 100 times until then, knock yourselves out.

I am in the middle here. I LOVE the passion that the coaching staff has, but I truly think it creates a dissent towards our programs from the refs. Was overhearing conversations from knowledgeable fans saying how refs truly hate having to deal with the constant moaning from our coaches and players. We need to be a tad tougher. Good season, embarrassing ending.
