DII All-Conference OL

Why do I even track our offers when half of them are silent?

That’s disappointing.

I don’t know Iowa’s situation or why Labas didn’t play, but watching his practice film he certainly has the physical makeup. Then again, so does Bullock, so I’m not sure how to feel. Ideally we land at least one QB with significant game experience.

I think most of it will hinge on the quarterback. A number of incoming transfers were all-conference at their respective levels and I’m sure some of the talented freshmen from the 2023 class will be ready to contribute. The team should be better at nearly every position, but if the QB situation is still a problem, it will just be more of the same. There are two transfer windows to get that figured out.

Staying on the former Zip theme, Dakota Thomas landed at a JUCO after his departure. Wondering if grades were an issue with him too. Honorable mention all-conference season at JUCO.

No, it can just be one year. Might be a situation where the staff is keeping him on the back burner in case they don’t land their top targets. Or they may not offer again at all?

Former Zips WR Oran Singleton committed to Eastern Michigan out of JUCO.

OL from Merrimack. 1st team all-conference.

Preseason second team JUCO All-American. Haven’t spoken to him, but he lists other options as ULM and UT-Martin. Edit: Added his JUCO film here. Not sure what his deal is, but the kid looks legit.

Fast and furious today.

Bump for updates. I will update the recruiting standings as the dust settles. As of now our MAC rankings are: HS/JUCO class #10 Portal Class #1 Comprehensive #4

And another!

GA Southern’s biggest issue all year has been turnovers. 5 is certainly on the high end. I thought Ohio was assisted more by GA Southern’s mistakes as opposed to what they actually caused. The QB alone had 16 interceptions going into the game. Gifting the ball to defenses is nothing new to him. Seemed to me Ohio should have won by more considering the turnovers. In any case, they have more depth on the OL and DL than most MAC programs. Their freshmen also stepped up.

Excellent article. About the only thing he’s missing is the Title IX lawsuit that was filed in Oregon a few weeks ago. That could drastically change the landscape as well.

Not to take anything away from Ohio, but GA Southern would have found it difficult to beat any team with their 5 turnover performance today.

Still haven’t seen many realistic options that would be a significant upgrade over what we already have. May have to wait until the dominos start to fall and a few guys are left without options they originally thought would be available. Outside of the obvious P5 transfers, almost all of the other QBs have some type of flaw. Whether it’s lack of experience, turnover prone, or just a poor fit for JoeMo’s offense. Maybe we end up landing a guy like AJ Swann? Good enough to be a part time starter, but is viewed as a backup by most P5 schools. Perhaps someone like that eventually decides he wants to be a full time starter somewhere and goes G5. That’s at least the type of scenario I’m hoping for.

If I’m not mistaken, he’s also a West Coast guy. That may have also played a part.

OL from Northwestern State. Looks like we’re behind the eight ball on this one as he’s already had in home visits from UMASS and Buffalo.

I’m also curious as to why Gilbertson was not in this pic. I’m assuming he was on the road recruiting.

Offers out to JUCO OL Jared Morrow and Liberty transfer DT Kendy Charles. Morrow originally signed with Coastal Carolina out of HS.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that happen. Both portal entries by the RBs were NIL related. Rattler was paid substantially and that spurred Lloyd to look elsewhere in an attempt to find the same kind of money (which didn’t happen). He eventually landed at Southern Cal. Anderson hired an NIL agent who convinced him he can make more money elsewhere and so he entered the portal recently. NIL is playing such a big role at the P5 level. Schools like South Carolina can match a handful of offers any other school throws out there, but then have to be selective with the rest of the athletes. Beamer adjusted his approach this offseason to, in essence, pay top dollar to a few elite HS recruits and be satisfied with missing out on some other 4 star types that have since landed at NC State, Virginia, etc. Those schools gave those particular athletes their top deals. Beamer has also chosen to focus most of the NIL resources towards retention and the portal.

Failure in both recruiting and retention. The starting RBs in back to back years have hit the portal.

We’re probably out of the running with Howell as he is now receiving a good bit of P5 (P4?) interest. He’s currently on a visit to South Carolina and the visit is going well. Gamecocks already signed 2 transfer RBs this week, but want to add a 3rd.
