Looks to me like former Zips LB great under Bowden and NFL LB Justin March is now a member of our staff. Good move.
Not sure what you mean by our staff but his opportunity is with the Tennessee Titans.

ZIPSWATCHER hasn't lost his ability to spot a former Zip. It took me at least a minute to find Serb even after Zipwatcher identified who I'm trying to find.
SPOILER alert! Just above the basketball.

Double elimination time within about 10 minutes of each other. Lacrosse eliminated by Michigan 18-6 about 10 minutes after softball went down 5-4 to Ball State in the MAC tournament. Excellent seasons for both.

Ugh getting hammered 8-1. Switching to the tied softball game and check in later.

Game being played at the same field at Northwestern that the Zips soccer team got jobbed and had to play there when they had a scheduled home game in the NCAA tournament. Only good thing is their logo is worse than Akron's and it looks like a Z from the side.

Zips are still alive as one of the final four teams in the MAC tournament after beating NIU 6-4. It gets a lot tougher from here on out. Side note Alexis Campbell has had an excellent tournament but it's even more fun watching her get ready to bat. She talks to herself, makes faces and sings to her walk up music. It all seems to be working. 😁

Just watched the replay on ESPN+. Had no idea what the result was (and didn't want to). Thought they were done when they went down 9-4 but then they went on a five goal run. Thought they were done again after RMU sored on a rebound with I think 1:15 remaining, but they grabbed a goal with 12 seconds left, and then held on as a final RMU shot bounced off the top crossbar. Zips dominated overtime, RMU never got a shot off. Incredible season and victory.

If you want to start feeling old - Jason Taylors son was just drafted by the New York Jets.

WMU wins the National Championship 6-2. Congrats to them . This, however, does not count as a MAC National Championship since the MAC does not sponsor hockey.

WMU makes the National Championship - was up 2-0, and last year's National Champ, Denver tied it with two minutes to go in the third, WMU won it in 2OTs. Go Broncos!

I may have mentioned this on here before but in light of the current conversation, undergrad in Computer Science at a school that honestly at the time I didn't love and wasn't that happy to have to go there. Grad school at Johns Hopkins, not exactly an apples to apples comparison since it was part-time night school, but Akron's program blew Hopkins away. I've come to appreciate Akron so much more in the intervening years. Hopkins is a good school and often comes in the top 10 in rankings, but if you gave me the blind "taste test" I'd have ranked Akron higher. Screw the stupid rankings.

Western Michigan has a chance to capture another MAC team championship. They have reached the Frozen Four.

Exactly two mid-majors. But make sure that 20 loss Arizona State has a chance to extend their excellent season.

You know what? At this point with our logo, let's just go all in and make it the Arby's A and see if we can get the $1M. We can even rename ourselves to the Meats. That's the way college sports looks like it's going anyway. We might as well get ahead of the trend. 😉

I see Chris Bassitt is still alive with the Blue Jays. Not sure about JT Brubaker.
Brubaker is on the 15 day DL for the Yankees.

I saw a statistic on the NIT game the other night that Senderoff has never had a losing record as a head coach. I couldn't believe that was true so I looked it up and since he's only ever been a head coach at Kent, it is true. He's had three seasons where he was exactly .500 but he has never had a losing record. I still bet he'll wake up in cold sweats in the middle of the night at Fordham thinking of Akron.

If you watch a NASCAR race, each car has their main sponsors on the roof and hood. On the side of the car are lots of smaller stickers, at least there used to be before I stopped watching. Those small stickers were called Provisional Sponsorships or something like that. The cost for those sponsorships vary by race by finishing position. The higher the car places in the race, the more money the sponsors pay. Maybe they could sell these types of sponsorships to people or local businesses. The higher the Zips finish in the regular season, the more the players make. Maybe figure out a bonus for winning the MAC Championship. I have no idea where they would be placed.
My experience in life is if you reward behavior, you get that behavior. Reward winning. It's minor league sports now.
Advertising on jerseys cannot be too far behind.

Coach did not exactly cement his own return in the latest Beacon article. Have to believe he is getting some calls. Hopefully it passes with no drama.
Wonder what it means that his son Conner is not coming back?

For those wishing to follow Kent, to hope they win and advance the MAC or those who hope they lose, well, because they are Kent. Here is information about the game: https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/well-traveled-kent-state-visits-stanford-in-nit-second-round/
Kent's victory and the Zips clearly being outmatched against Arizona, am I the only Zip fan left wondering if we had lost to Miami and gone to the NIT, would we be making a run in the NIT?
will have to deal with center Raynaud, the nation's best double-double producer with 24 and averages of 20.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
24 games with a double double is nice and all, still I think 31 is better. 🙂

Go Creighton. F the SEC and their 14 bids (6 of them have already been eliminated!).

They just mentioned on the March Madness telecast that there have been far fewer upsets in the tournament the last 2 years, which happens to coincide exactly with the NIL era combined with the transfer portal.

Huh, looks like both things can be true at the same time.
