    Watching Pitt - VA Tech. Apparently there was a little bit of bad blood between Narduzzi and Franklin when he was coaching Penn State. Pitt claimed Penn State wouldn't schedule them, Franklin apparently responded that being Pitt would be like beating Akron. F you Franklin, glad you lost your job and now I can root against Virginia Tech wholeheartedly. 

     

    Edit: I researched it and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It was from 2017 and they had just beaten Akron the week before they beat Pitt. He had said if Pitt had won it would have been like their Super bowl, for them it was just like beating Akron. Meaning they treated every opponent the same. Still happy that Pitt is beating them late in the 4th.

    Good riddance to Miami. What have they really accomplished in that last 30 years? One football championship and one very undeserved basketball championship. And pretty much zero in all other sports (except maybe tennis). So one lucky year in basketball and playing better football recently and suddenly they are too good for the MAC. Ask NIU how well switching conferences is working out for them so far.

    Kind of nice not to see the Zips mentioned anywhere in the Bottom 10, but one of our former conference members has taken over the #1 spot. That move to the Mountain West really looks like it was a good move for NIU. 🙄 I did find this funny though. Sacramento St has been included and had this about their matchup with UMAss (who is also nowhere near the Bottom 10). 

     

    The Sacks host the Artists Formerly Known as UMess, our preseason top Bottom 10 team that is now 3-0. It's a conference matchup, despite the schools being 2,940 miles apart. Imagine, a Mid-American Conference game in which the teams' only chance to see middle America is if they have a window seat on the plane.

    I had no idea either so I looked it up: 

     

    Net success rate in college football is an advanced analytics metric that measures a team's offensive success rate minus its defensive success rate, showing which team performed more efficiently on a play-by-down basis.

    What is "Success Rate"?

    Before calculating the net version, college football analysts define whether an individual play "succeeds" based on down and distance to keep the chains moving: 

    1st Down: Gains at least 50% (or 40% in some models) of the yards needed.

    2nd Down: Gains at least 70% (or 60%) of the yards needed.

    3rd & 4th Down: Gains 100% of the yards needed to get a first down or score a touchdown.

    How Net Success Rate Works

    Formula: Offensive Success Rate % – Defensive Success Rate %

    Meaning: A positive net success rate means your offense gained "success" on a higher percentage of plays than your defense allowed to the opponent. 

    Value: It strips out the "noise" of rare, high-variance plays (like a lucky 80-yard broken tackle touchdown or a freak turnover) to reveal which team actually won the fundamental battle of consistent down-to-down execution.
