IUPU-FW (Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne) now to be known as IP-FW probably saved our Zip Soccer program from having to hope at the end of a season of getting into the College Cup as a wild card, because they increased our MAC soccer members to six teams. Kentucky left the MAC as an affiliate member to join another, so that left only 5 teams in the MAC. The MAC has an automatic bid in the NCAA
College Cup for this year, but no guanentee beyond with only five members.
IF you read about all the changes in conferences regarding basbetball, then you should have picked up on this item! I was quite concerned about how our ZIPS would fare with Kentucky moving on, now I feel relieved.
We have no men's tennis, we hardly have a women's tennis program--no locker rooms for the athletes, no courts on campus, or any real plans of having any in the next decade or so, a coach who receives a part-time coaches salary; administration keeps the team because of Title 9, but really doesn't support it, just wants the numbers.
That also holds true for Riflery, 75% of the team are female. They are consistently in the top 15-20 in the country, but what support do they receive? If you go on GoZips.com
you won't be able to find a current schedule of matches, or even who the current members are, our Sports Information people don't sem to have the time or concern regarding this matter. The SI who had it last year wasn't concerned or took the time to do anything about it either: he no longer has a job, but I'm sure this lack is not the reason he is no longer on board.
Let's think about football too, why have 13 teams, because by adding Temple the hope is of getting basketball in the future!
Before anyone make a statement, do a little scouting on the 'net, it's easy and one can learn alot.
I generally don't reply to anything because it seems to me to be so much garbage and not worth my time, so I just shake my head and smile to myself, but I felt compelled to do so at the time.
Go Zipsin soccer, football and riflery too.
