  1. Here are some comments from one of the pundits out there who picks the NCAA tournament and NIT tournament.

(3/11/07) This will be my final crack at the NCAA tournament (although I can't promise I won't have changes of heart between now and 5:55, so little changes are possible). The final NIT projection and bracket will be posted immediately after the NCAA selection show, which is on CBS at 6 Eastern. Make sure to tune in to ESPN 2 at 9 Eastern for the NIT selection show so you can see how your NIT hopeful squad fares. Good luck to all...4:24 PM: Purdue out of NCAA, Old Dominion in.6:43 PM: 63/65 NCAA teams correct... had Kansas St. and Syracuse in instead of Purdue and Stanford.7:26 PM: Final NIT bracket, along with a couple of minor seeding changes, is now up. Still may change my mind on things until 8:55, stay tuned.9:56: 37/40 NIT teams correct, one less than last year. They took San Diego St., Fresno St. and Hofstra over my Iowa, Washington, and Akron. Interesting to see that they didn't give any breaks to big conference teams this year, and I'm not quite sure what happened with Akron. The official final bracket is here. Stay tuned to the site throughout the National Invitation Tournament for analysis and news concerning all of the potential matchups, some of which should be up tomorrow for the earlier games.
  2. Lets see what the idiot committee members felt was worthy of an NIT bid.#1 Seed Mississippi Stthe committee guy stated RPI and Sagarin were factors-Akron is higher in both pollsthe committe guy stated road record-Mississippi was 3-9 on the road with a conference record of 8-8. Akron was 11-5 on the road and 13-3 in conference. I guess I can look at the numbers over and over and it will never make sense. They gave jobs to idiots who just express their opinions without the help of facts.

  3. * Has KD/UA protested to the MAC with a sliver of hope something could change before Friday? (my wife's thought)* Is KD/UA sending the MAC a message (giving them the finger) for the way they handled the review of the end of the game last night? KD was surprised/disappointed that it was left up to the three officials to review and determine how that was handled.* Was KD/UA expecting a home game given the number of wins and drew a terrible road assignment? Is there added expense that isn't covered somehow that we don't want to pick up?
    1) The NCAA selected their is no sliver of hope2) No way KD turned down the bid because of the MAC Championship game. It sucked but would not cause KD to do that.3) It was not because of the road or expenses. The NCAA picks up the tab for NCAA events(NIT is now owned by the NCAA).The simple truth is we were not selected. It sucks and their no logical reason why weren't selected. That selection committe for the NIT should be replaced.

  5. I am blown away that we weren't selected! I look at the teams invited and have no clue how anyone came to this conclusion. It makes no sense! The NCAA invite was a stretch but we were listed as a bubble team and the fifth team not selected. How did this committee select NIT teams? The one guy said they used RPI and Sagarin/computer models, which clearly means Akron would be in. He also referenced who they would not want to play if they were coaching. Well, if you are going to go with something so subjective and arbitrary- they can put all of their friends in the NIT. This selection process is a joke. They need some accountability for who they chose.

  6. No! I don't think their is any way to spin this as a positive. In terms of national exposure, everyone follows the tournament and those in the NIT follow the NIT. I think our odds of making the sweet sixteen are equal or better than winning the NIT. In a one and done tournament anything can happen.

  7. I totally agree about supporting Miami and the conference. I would root for any MAC team in the tournament. I am willing to accept that Akron should accept the majority of blame in the loss; however, I still feel that the conference needs to look at officiating and timekeeping problems. The end of the game was a distster for both teams. Miami won the game and should have been able to celebrate and not wait for ten minutes. Akron finishes a game with huge questions about the timekeeping that are justified. These are problems that should not occur at the college level.

  8. It is hard to say much about the crowd. The camera angle has shot each teams cheering sections at various points but the game angle doesn't show that much of the crowd. When it does pan the crowd, it does look like a lot of people. They are showing more Can't fans lately, but that will change in the second half.
