  1. I can't wait for the season to start. I am probably not as optomistic as AK-Zip but here is my pre-summer picks.PSU 45 Akron 10 Penn State rolls and the Zips don't look greatNCST 35 Akron 17 I think the Zips are in it till the start of the fourth quarterCMU 28 Akron 24 CMU is improved and a tough road gameNTex 3 Akron 31 Home game starts the turnaround for the ZipsCan't 14 Akron 42 It's Can't-JD will decide what the score will be before the game starts and pulls the starter when necessaryCincy 24 Akron 21 Lose a close one on the roadMiami 28 Akron 30 Should be the game to decide the EastToledo 35 Akron 17 Letdown game after MiamiBGSU 17 Akron 28 Akron rebounds with home winBuffalo 14 Akron 21 Zips in the lead for the EastOhio 7 Akron 31 Did they even have 100 yards offense last year against usWMU 17 Akron 28 Great finish to the season Regular season 7-5MAC Championship Akron 28 NIU 24

  2. The MAC does not need to add schools at this time. The potential Big East breakup will lead to some conference changes, but why add YSU or SIU? The MAC ranks near the bottom of DI-A football, why bring in two project schools with I-AA? Why move to 15 schools in football? None of this makes any sense for the conference. The MAC is not going to add any schools at this point. If a member institution moves conferences, the addition of Temple as a full member would make sense.

  3. I think a lot of fans in the MAC know that our conference is in direct competition with the B10, most specifically OSU and Michigan as they overlap our conference footprint. I was thrilled to see all the B10 teams out of the tournament. The worse the Zero State team does the better for the Zips. If people want to cheer Zero State so be it, but don't expect all of the Zips faithful to care about some other school. If a B10 school loses, great!GO ZIPS!!GO MAC!!

  4. I agree that the loss does lose some momentum, but not all of it. The Zips are on the rise and we still need our die hard fans reminding those who have mixed allegiances. The Zips are playing in the post season and the ride is not over yet. The NCAA tournament means I root for any MAC school including Can't. I hope the flushes do well and represent the conference well. The better MAC does the more likely we will receive an at-large bid at some point.GO ZIPS!!!GO MAC!!!

  5. I will never root for a school other than Akron unless it is a MAC school playing out of conference. I always want the MAC to be represented well. I wouldn't care if Columbus State closed its doors and their athletic teams were never heard from again. It is a state school in Columbus, just like Akron is a state school from Akron. I have no reason to root for a school from Columbus that does not even play in our conference. What next-should I root for Cincinnati because they are a state schoo from Ohio. This is stupid-Columbus school is another division I school-that competes with the Zips in multiple sports every year. This is the equivalent of being a Pirates fan and Indians fan. Since, they don't play each other often is ok to root for both? No! I root for the Zips! They are my team!!

  6. Why would The University of Akron want to play an NAIA school. This would count as competition and the Zips would not even get credit for a win against a Division I school. The Zips need to play a competitive OOC schedule not some NAIA or DIII school. I would much rather see the Zips trying to schedule teams that are traditional tournament teams. The more top 100 RPI games the better.

  7. It does suck so both schools and the conference. The MAC doesn't get much national attention and the bracketbuster was supposed to help conferences like the MAC. Instead the chose schools that are accelling in smaller conferences. The MAC remains in a tough spot, we are good enough to have several teams on the bubble each year, but only good enough to get one invited.

  8. We have ten games left (nine conference and the bracket buster). If you add in games for the MAC tournament we could have up to 14 more decisions left. I think the Zips will go 7-3 through the remainder of the schedule. Add a couple of wins in the MAC tournament and the Zips will be sitting on the bubble come selection time. The Zips will hopefully be able to go to the big tournament, but if we fall short the NIT tournament should be a given if we break 20 wins.

  9. I actually see this as a good thing. If Ferguson does transfer, it frees up a scholarship for the current recruiting class. He seems like a talented athlete that was not going to get the shot. This will be a plus for him, Akron, and Ashland. If it is true, I wish him well. If it is not, he is a solid backup and nice to have in case.

  10. Akron does have more potential to bring in fans than Toledo. Toledo has been successful and their stadium is the perfect size for their university, city, and surrounding population. They fill their stadium and people must get tickets before games rather than walk up and expect tickets to be available. The University of Akron does need to be careful not to overbuild something that we can not fill, but Northeast Ohio does have a larger population base. The city of Akron and city of Toledo are similiar in size as well as universities themselves; however, Akron does have a huge advantage on surrounding population base. Toledo must compete with BGSU for neighboring fans, as well as Columbus State and UM. Akron competes with Can't who has a horrible tradition and Columbus State. The ability to have fans from Canton, Cleveland, and Youngstown is simply not an option for Toledo. A winning Akron program has the potential to be Northeast Ohio's team. Yes, Toledo is a successful program that hit a homerun with a 26,000 seat stadium. Matches the interest of the area and allow the program to sell out. I think that Akron has the ability to be a bigger draw. I feel that a 30,000 seat stadium that includes loges is a smart start. We do need to plan a stadium for growth when that occurs. Build something we can fill now or at least 90% capacity and expansion should occur when we can show a need for 30,000+.

  11. He will have to sit a year. When a prospect signs a NLI(national letter of intent), he is then committed to that school for the that next year. If the prospect does not honor their NLI, they must transfer and sit out for one season. He will end up with only three years of eligibilty and be ready for action during the Fall of 2007.

  12. Rocket,

Have you ever walked around Toledo's campus and Akron's campus? I have been on both with the past 6 months-it not that close-our campus is significantly better. Have you ever walked around the city of Toledo and the city of Akron. Akron is obviously a much nicer city. The top drawing sports are football and basketball, which we are better than Toledo in as well. I am not claiming anything about the Big East, but I can tell the Zips are a great fit in the MAC. The University of Akron has alot going for it right now. I can see how a person being associated with a school like yours would be jealous.

    GO ZIPS!!

  13. I disagree that macbbs does not provide good information. The board has been decent and it is great to see that much mac involvement from all the schools. I like to see the occasional smack between Akron and Can't. I feel like this board is great for an all-Akron point of view, but it is sometimes good to see how other teams are viewing our programs. I hope the board does not fold.

  14. I really think this is a must win game for the Zips. If Akron is thinking about any possibility of winning the MAC East they need to put another loss on Miami. The MAC East is not a garauntee for any school right now. The Zips are capable of playing with anyone in this conference. I predict the team will be ready for this weekend.

    Zips 31 Miami 28

  15. I think Toledo and BG could be interchangeable, but I agree with Captain on CMU earning 3rd. Polls should be fluid and represent what happened on the field and not reputation. CMU beat Miami and Akron at their place. I would put Miami four, Akron five, NIU six, EMU seven, OU eight. Nine through thirteen is a place I never want to see Akron again; hence I don't feel the need to rank it.
