  1. Of course the non-qualifiers are not practicing with the team, the NCAA does not allow NQ's to practice. They are eligible to workout in the weight room facilities(but not when the teams are present) and receive academic help(tutors) for their first year. During the second year, the can gain eligibility with a certain GPA along with number of credit hours earned.

  2. The power ranking looks pretty good. I agree with the top 4, but would have Miami and BSU ahead of BGSU. Those 3 are close, but Miami has a decent defense and BSU beat a bad MAC team by 18. The teams after that are hopefully not relevant other than easy W's for the Zips!

  3. I love MAC Report Online! I think they give the most insightful MAC information. They do radio shows and recap every team within the conference. They give great information on the upcoming games. I dislike the Beacon, like alot people, because they don't cover the Zips. MRO will have a preview and recap of every MAC game. MRO does a radio show that gives our conference more exposure than our local paper. I look forward to the links and read what they have to say. They did not nominate a Zip player this week-ok. If it becomes a trend, when we have deserving players then complain.

  4. If I was ranking the conferences:1) SEC-deep and lots of quality2) B10-numerous teams that could be top 253) B12-Strong in the South-the North division is catching up4) ACC-Good top teams but lacks some depth5) PAC10-Great front runnersbig gap6) Big East-2 team race with several non-BCS team along for the ride7) Mountain West-TCU, Utah, BYU the conference is strong and could see TCU break into the BCS gamegap8) WAC-Boise, Fresno and Nevada are strong programs but they have problems at the bottom9) MAC-Lots of decent programs with no true stars this year. Going into the season some people have been dumb enough to pick bottom feeder Can't. 10) C-USA-UTEP, Tulsa are strong but they have numerous bottom feeder as wellgap11) Sun Belt-not competitive with the other programs at this point. The top team is barely ranked in the top 100.The MAC, WAC and C-USA are battling for some national respect. A successful OOC season will go along way in helping us catch up to the Mountain West and Big East. They are aways ahead of us currently, we need some big wins! Let go MAC!!!

  5. I would not be opposed to the Zips playing in the Brown's Stadium for a select squad. Penn State is going to play at Temple(when they are a MAC school and they are terrible). I have a hard time seeing the MAC vs Service Academy able to draw the attendance necessary to warrant the move. We played Army, in terrible weather last year, and had dismal attendance. If that game was in Cleveland, we would have 5K watching in a 70K stadium. I would be willing to play Penn State/OSU/Michigan/Mich State/Pitt/WVU at Brown's Stadium but think that would encompass almost all the schools that would warrant moving a home game to a nuetral site. Anyone else should be a true home game.GO ZIPS!!!

  6. Maybe, he did no homework on the subject at all. He called his friend Phil Steele and copied his prediction for the conferences that don't get write ups. MAC Report and Vandalay follow this conference closely and neither is giving Can't a shot. I will believe things are going to change at Can't when MAC knowledgable people start to give them a chance. Until then, Herbstreit try name five starters for Can't or one reason they can compete for the title.

  7. I wish I was more optomistic about a victory against PSU but honestly I have a lot of respect for PSU. I think the Zips have closed the gap between the two schools but I don't think we have caught them. The Zips really need to put up a good fight in this game. JD recruits PA alot and this game will be a big perception game. Are we competitive with the defending B10 champs? I think we will be competitive and will force PSU to play strong through all four quarters.PSU 28 Akron 17

  8. The campus is definitely becoming less of a commuter school and that is a good thing. There is a waiting list for the dorm space and off campus housing is becoming more difficult to find. The school is building more dorm space (in front of Gallucci) and is included in some of the stadium designs. The atmosphere on campus is better with a higher percentage of students living on campus. If you want to see the difference between a true commuter school and our campus, walk around Cleveland State's campus and then our campus. Our campus is alive during the week but still needs to be able retain students during the weekends.

  9. Collegefootballnews did not ranks us well either. I think some of these rankings are to spark interest in the BCS fanbase. Is Kiki and Luke top 200? Absolutely! Does collegefootballnews want to be accurate or get their name out their for having theoretically credibility with BCS schools? This gives fuel for some idiot in Columbus to say how many top 200 players they have this year.

  10. The Zips are 14-19-2 all-time against YSU and has fared poorly during the end of the the series. The Zips were 2-7-1 from 1986-1995 when the series was dropped. The Zips are now head and shoulders above YSU and would probably be a 25-30 point favorite. I see no real benefit of renewing the series. The Zips are aspiring to be the top school in MAC and compete at I-A level. Playing the local I-AA might be inexpensive, and in NE Ohio might draw better than N Texas, but I would rather see the Zips staying with a I-A only schedule.

  11. I agree with all of captain's points. It is not so much an anti-OSU sentiment, but a pro-Akron/MAC sentiment. I would rather see the Zips play than any B10 school. I disagree with the assertion that the MAC is a lesser product than the B10. The Zips are my team and the MAC garner the majority of my attention. If OSU were never listed in the local papers again, I wouldn't miss them at all. GO ZIPS!!!

  12. I think Toledo has a great chance in both of their OOC games. Kansas is not a powerhouse and is playing in Toledo. Pitt lost to Ohio last season and Ohio was not nearly as strong at Toledo last year.I like any prediction that has the Zips returning to Detroit. I think the Zips will return to the MACC and win again. This years team will be better than last. I think most Zips fans realize that this team is still on its way up. It was not a lucky or fluke year. JD is building a program that will compete with the BCS schools.I think Vandeley's prediction of a CMU win has some validity. Akron has struggled at Mount Pleasant. Even years I thought we would crush CMU, they play tough at home and seem to pull out wins. I don't think Ohio will be the factor that some are predicting. They might be better than last year, but Zips are improving at a faster rate. Last year was a blowout and I think the gap is getting bigger this year. North Texas is in the Sun Belt and went something like 2-9 last season. They are playing in Akron. I don't see them coming with 20 points.I don't want to get my hopes up to high, but I think 9-3 is realistic. I think we will take losses to Penn State, Central Michigan, and Toledo with the rest of the games being wins. A 6-2 conference record with an additional win in the MACC.GO ZIPS!!
