  1. By what measure is that even remotely the case?
  2. YouTube Tom on 1350 NOW
  3. Sucks for that guy.
  4. Is there a need for GDI w/ respect to the Rowdies?Fill the lower seats first!
  5. Good question. 6. I couldn't give a used diaper about how many people care about the MAC. I don't give a second thought about the MAC. I'm a Zips fan. The Zips are what matter to me.Unfortunately, the ship sailed on TP being relevent for me a few years ago. His books on the ABA and early NBA are must reads, must owns for any basketball fans. Tremendous books.TP wants everyone to get along and no one to be hurt. Admirable goals in life, but it doesn't sell papers. Sometimes a writer needs to take a real stand, and it seems he's unable or unwilling to do that anymore.I do appreciate him writing / covering the Zips whenever he does .. but I don't give a rat's a$$ how many people he gets emails from. Maybe if he's using that as a guide to what he writes about next time, he's contributing to the demise of print media.Go Zips!!! B)
  7. If the Chipps won the West as is being reported, the 4 seed will be determined by Friday's game.A Zips win gives UB the 4 seed, where I believe a Zips loss will give Miami the 4 seed .. MU beat CMU, while U@B lost to CMU. CMU is the 2 seed so they come first in the tiebreakers.I think.Go Zips!!

  9. It appears to me you get your wish generally .. there are less people down there.I know I was at a hoops crazed school for undergrad, and there was a LOTTERY for student season tickets, and a single game lottery also .. but there were NEVER any of these goofy rules about shirts, joining, being a member .. etc. to get the prime location. You got in line before the games .. sometimes way early .. and it was first come first serve. I was on national TV a few times just because I didn't have any afternoon classes that day and was able to line squat early. Big Monday's ruled when Donyell was around.UConn was a pretty cliqueless place generally .. not many greeks to speak of at all (seen PCU? that's pretty much about UConn). I know it's the Big East .. whatever .. it was the thing to do, the place to be, and demand far outstripped supply for seats .. including the crappy games all the way in downtown Hartford. It's apparent from the outside that this attitude that you need to be a certain way to deserve to sit in certain seats is hurting the Rowdies. Seems like the momentum of the Rowdies at hoops games is suffering a bit these days. There's a need to freshen it up I guess.Go Zips!
  10. Indeed, it's either Jimmy, Chris or Tim. It's a "last game @ the JAR" thing. The Effect is hard to predict, so I won't guess at who's going to have the big game on Friday:Past examples of the Jawanza Moore Effect (aka Moore's Law):2006: D. Peterson goes 10/14 on FG's and drops 22 on Can't State in his last game @ the JAR. 2007: MAC POY Romeo Travis drops 37 & 11 on BGSU in his last game @ the JAR2008: Woody drops in 23 to lead a furious comeback vs. Can't State that came up short in his last game at the JAR.2004: Tarver drops 33 to beat Can't State in his last game @ the JAR.2002: Rashon drops 22 in a losing effort vs. Marshall in his last game @ the JAR.And it all started in the big meltdown game vs. BGSU in the 1st round of the 1999 tournament. While coaching and players were falling apart around him. J. Moore does his best to try and extend his career:1999: Jawanza Moore (career 7 pt scorer) goes for 21 and 10 in his last game at the JAR vs. BGSU.
  11. Are you talking about Goldhammer? He was interviewed by someone? Hope not.
  12. Fair enough .. I pretty much agree. But I wouldn't have picked Sherman out as the most difficult matchup, I guess. Though I don't have any other specific ones to counter with. I guess it means I'm not terribly worried about matchups as they pertain to athleticism. The Zips need to play their game, and not their opponent's.
  13. I'm down with Jon Marachino and the Fish .. it's a decent show. It's early still, and I think it would be good to swing them more to the Zips .. but that will take time, and Zips fans' efforts to do it.I have 'em on most afternoons when I can.Go Zips!
  14. I appreciate your analysis, but I'm not sure I understand / agree with how you've matched up the players.Zeke vs ?? and Bardo vs. Parks? .. Mike is likely not to play much, and Zeke vs. Parks is one emphatic win for the Zips where it pertains to athleticism.I don't really see McKee guarding McNees .. about all they have in common is McGenerally speaking, I think the Zips match up well with their opponents, but have different strengths. This isn't facing Gonzaga with a backcourt of 6-5 and 6-8 who are all quicker than our 5-10 guys. Greene has been finishing strong, Sherman has played well .. and Singletary is clutch for them. You can pick a single matchup and say that this guy is going to jump higher and more often than that guy .. but I dont know how productive it is.The Zips excel inside against the entire league. To me, the game hinges on our bigs and the team doing the following 3 things:#1: Keep the opponent from dominating their offensive glass. Limit second shots. We need our bigs (McK *2, Zeke, Nik & Jimmy) to hit the glass hard, especially on defense. Limit the 2nd chance points, especially on bunny put-backs.#2: Make the opponent run a half court offense. Whether it was the trip to Portage County, VCU or the URI game, the times where the Zips have looked bad (and there are only a few of them, for short stretches) have been when they've allowed the opponents to get out on the break, or get to the rim on cuts easily and early in the shot clock. The Zips aren't Charlie's Redhawks by any stretch (they don't slow it down on O), but they need to force the opponent to hit jumpshots. If this 20-8 (12-3) team has a weakness it's jump shooting. They beat people to the rim, off the glass and in the open court. Force them to use some of the 35 second clock. Every time down the floor.#3: Get the ball inside on offense. Over and over and over again. They don't need to shoot everytime from the paint, but the ball needs to enter the post for the Zips offense to be smooth. A ball in the post against single coverage can lead to good looks inside 10 feet. Hit a few of those early and draw some double teams, and then look to kick out to open shooters. Open shooters make more shots than guarded shooters. Lather, rinse, repeat.Go Zips! B) B) P.S. And then there comes the wild card: The Jawanza Moore Effect. Which guy will go off in his final appearance at the JAR?
  15. A week ago all they had were singles in any of the reserved sections. It will be close to the full house of 5500 I'd bet.
  16. Don't mean to continue to hijack a FB thread for Futbol .. but I guess I was thinking about how much the advertising might be worth if there's a guaranteed full house every night. Are the facilities able to generate additional revenue? And maybe moreso, does the success and popularity of the team foster big growth in youth and HS soccer camps that can be revenue generators?Revenue isn't the goal in NCAA futbol .. or at UA, but I'm wondering if there's mechanisms that make the thing closer to break even which would help UA maintain (or grow) a competitive advantage against most of D1 Futbol clubs.Go Zips!
  17. Funny season, looking back at the scheduleWe were not in a conference that season, but you'll find at least 6 home & homes on the schedule. Some from old OVC opponents, others w/ Boise, Brooklyn.Crazy stuff.
  18. SeeTee, I feel more like you every losing season at Akron. That's another reason why our soccer program is rising by leaps and bounds. Next season, you may need a season ticket to get in the gate to see Porter's Prospects. Is there potential for men's futbol to be revenue neutral with a sold out stadium via season tickets? I'm not asking is it possible to sell out the season as season ticket packages .. what I'm asking, is there enough capacity at LJF that if you sold every seat for every game, would men's futbol pay for itself?
  19. We played Ohio State in the NIT in 1988.It was a very tight game. OSU had Treg Lee, Chris Jent and I believe Jay Burson? The Zips Eric McLaughlin blew out his knee late after being thrown under the scorers table by an opposing player, and we couldn't recover.Instead of OSU, we would stand a very good chance of playing Dayton or Cincinnati should we end up in the the 2010 NIT.If your point is only that you'd rather be in the NCAA tourney than the NIT...or that participating in the NCAA tourney is more exciting than the NIT...why bother posting it? Who wouldn't rather be in the NCAA over the NIT? No one.Fixed.
  20. Credit to Mollaut of MHT, I presume?
  21. Zips will be way farther into double wing territory:84-56
  22. If you are a mid-major, the NIT is very important.Ask Travis or Joyce how they feel about not getting a chance at the post season a few years ago. It still eats at them.Ask Dambrot if he would like to compete in the NIT over sitting at home. I'm guessing he'd take the NIT.Do you think it would help a kid like Zeke to play a post-season game against someone like Cincinnati or Dayton, or would it be better to sit at home? I'm guessing post-season experience would be an asset to him.Two of Dambrot's best wins, the one's that "Basketball Guy" covets so much, are Temple and Florida State. If we don't play in the NIT, we don't have them.K.e.n.t. used their NIT success to catapult them to their NCAA run. For a program like Akron, the NIT is a great way to get tourney experience against solid competition. And, the way the Zips arrange their OOC schedule, one of the only chances to get a marquee win."Take it to the Extreme Guy" will point out the blatantly obvious and say - "No one cares about the NIT. Joe Akron/Hoops fans only care about the NCAA Tourney."Duh. No one argues that point. The NIT is VERY important for a mid-major program for all the reasons listed above. Having a 25-win season, and no post season, again, would be crippling.+10
  23. It's common to approach BG from the north on I-75 and exit at #181, which is Wooster St.Just sayin.Go Zips! B) B)
  24. Maybe it's just early, but I'm not sure I understand this. What you're really saying is that if the Zips just won every game, the selection committee would have a hard time passing them up?
  25. On this team, with this roster, in the current circumstances, I love Steve McNees at the point. He's my guy to run the show.Go Zips!
