SeeTee, I feel more like you every losing season at Akron. That's another reason why our soccer program is rising by leaps and bounds. Next season, you may need a season ticket to get in the gate to see Porter's Prospects. Is there potential for men's futbol to be revenue neutral with a sold out stadium via season tickets? I'm not asking is it possible to sell out the season as season ticket packages .. what I'm asking, is there enough capacity at LJF that if you sold every seat for every game, would men's futbol pay for itself?

We played Ohio State in the NIT in 1988.It was a very tight game. OSU had Treg Lee, Chris Jent and I believe Jay Burson? The Zips Eric McLaughlin blew out his knee late after being thrown under the scorers table by an opposing player, and we couldn't recover.Instead of OSU, we would stand a very good chance of playing Dayton or Cincinnati should we end up in the the 2010 NIT.If your point is only that you'd rather be in the NCAA tourney than the NIT...or that participating in the NCAA tourney is more exciting than the NIT...why bother posting it? Who wouldn't rather be in the NCAA over the NIT? No one.Fixed.

Credit to Mollaut of MHT, I presume?

Zips will be way farther into double wing territory:84-56

If you are a mid-major, the NIT is very important.Ask Travis or Joyce how they feel about not getting a chance at the post season a few years ago. It still eats at them.Ask Dambrot if he would like to compete in the NIT over sitting at home. I'm guessing he'd take the NIT.Do you think it would help a kid like Zeke to play a post-season game against someone like Cincinnati or Dayton, or would it be better to sit at home? I'm guessing post-season experience would be an asset to him.Two of Dambrot's best wins, the one's that "Basketball Guy" covets so much, are Temple and Florida State. If we don't play in the NIT, we don't have them.K.e.n.t. used their NIT success to catapult them to their NCAA run. For a program like Akron, the NIT is a great way to get tourney experience against solid competition. And, the way the Zips arrange their OOC schedule, one of the only chances to get a marquee win."Take it to the Extreme Guy" will point out the blatantly obvious and say - "No one cares about the NIT. Joe Akron/Hoops fans only care about the NCAA Tourney."Duh. No one argues that point. The NIT is VERY important for a mid-major program for all the reasons listed above. Having a 25-win season, and no post season, again, would be crippling.+10

It's common to approach BG from the north on I-75 and exit at #181, which is Wooster St.Just sayin.Go Zips! B) B)

Maybe it's just early, but I'm not sure I understand this. What you're really saying is that if the Zips just won every game, the selection committee would have a hard time passing them up?

On this team, with this roster, in the current circumstances, I love Steve McNees at the point. He's my guy to run the show.Go Zips!

I thought the "Oh Canada" was pretty funny .. but not enough of them knew the words or stuck it out. A lyrics sheet might have helped.Go Zips!

Oh, I see.tOSU wannabes. Front runners. Only root for a sure thing. Too bad those Howdies missed a wellplayed Zips basketball game. Let's see if the Howdies have enough nads to show for the Kant Sucksbeatdown. Hello? Pot? .. It's kettle calling!

RP has made the observation that it would have been cheaper (both in $$$ and lives saved) if the Union had simply bought all of the slaves from their owners, set them free and then legislated the end of slavery. The war was more costly than the total investment that plantation owners had in their "labor pools."It's not hard to see how some would hear 3 words of his discussion and come to some belief that he thinks slavery was a good thing or something. RP just observes, with the benefit of history, that it would have been better to buy the slaves to end slavery than to have the destructive Civil War.

I figured it was in HD somewhere because I turned over to NBC and the elf was showing highlights in HD. I have direct tv I watched it on CNBC (channel 356), CNBC (channel 355) was showing curling in HD. I simply hit the "olympic icon" on the guide and that's where it took me.

Why is it that every season at least one game causes many Zips fans, including self-described die-hards, to step onto the ledge, forget every victory of substance in the past 5 years, and entirely lose faith in "their team"?It was one game. And yes, I'm asking about you.Go Zips! B)

I still say 10 wins takes the MAC East

I'm down with OZoner being here .. pragmatic opposing fans are always welcome. Like Districtballer for the most part.Go Zips! -
Did Butler sit around and wait for the rest of the Horizon to get better?Did Boise State football sit around and wait for the rest of the non-BCS football programs to get better? We need to improve ourselves. What Eastern Michigan or Ball State choose to do should have no bearing on the Zips. Like Butler's done to the rest of the Horizon, we can make the MAC our bitch if we make the investment to do so. If we don't, we won't.Agreed.Some of it may be the schedule, but I think a big part of this is finding away to improve the JAR from a player / coach facility perspective. It's the worst facility (maybe behind rifle?) on campus and behind much of the conference and the nation.UA has managed to catapult it's FB facilities squarely into the top 20 or so in the nation, bar none. The cost to do so for the hoops teams is a fraction of that. We've got to find a way to get that done. Note: I'm NOT talking about a new arena, or better fan amenities at the JAR. They're important, but way down on the priority list over better team lockerroom, film room & team rooms. For both the men and women. In essence, upgrade the JAR to be as good a team / practice facility as the Stile Fieldhouse is for FB.Go Zips!

No chance of hating that playa .. Ferry has always been one of my favorite Cavs. And if he brings home a title .. it'll only cement it for me further.

To me there's nothing funny about being stuck in the MAC.Mike Thomas & Luis Proenza set the bar high. KD, CP, Mack and You-Tube Tom are still working to exceed that bar.If you strive to "compete with the best of the MAC" .. you'll be really close to competing with the worst of the MAC .. and if the MAC gets worse .. you get worse with it. UA needs its programs to strive to be the best in OH and compete to join the best in the nation. Caleb has gotten his program to that level. Mitchell's track teams are close. KD can see the door, and the debate is whether or not he's knocking yet or not.Gotta aim high .. many of the programs, men's hoops especially are. I don't think KD benchmarks against Can't State, Miami .. etc. Take a look at who the Zips recruit against lately. Many of the recruits are Butler, Xavier, Dayton type players more so than CMU, BGSU, OU, based simply on their offers.Go Zips!

Maybe we should change the poll to:Danny Ferry: Thief or Genius?Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.
-
They trailed @ Miami for a grand total of 21 seconds. Winning by 5 at Miami is like winning by 15 at BG. It was a solid win in a game largely dictated by the Zips and their defense.

I agree .. things appear to be running smoothly at the right time. There's something to be said for playing & winning close games on the road. Some recent Zips teams got in stretches where they either blew the other team off the floor or lost a closely fought battle. This team seems comfortable in the tight contest.A VCU win would be a nice addition to the run. VCU's dropped back slightly, but it would be a high quality road win leading up to the final 2 weeks.Aside from Roberts new (or re) injury .. the Zips appear to me to be healthy and mostly rested for the stretch run. Conyers is putting up big minutes lately, but most of the rest of the team are well under 30 mpg. B) Go Zips!

Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Cooper is tied for 19th in assists per game (61st in assist rate), tied for fifth in steals per game (26th in steal percentage), and tied for 133rd in assist to turnover. Also, how many stars a player has is meaningless. Also, kenpom and Basketball State = awesomeCooper's been one of the best 2 or 3 players on the floor each of the 4 times I've watched OU this season. Seems like a high major guard to me anyway.statsheet.com = awesomer -
Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
But he leads the nation in Time of Possession.Horrible post, maybe one of your worst ever!Clearly this should be integrated from 0 to X, not alpha to X, and the implied assumption is that f(0) = 0. Then perhaps this argument holds water.Asleep at the keyboard again, CK? -
Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Even as I'm really happy to see statistics in between games .. and I like having the HV & +/- available, I will nominate "block percentage" as the ZipsNation.Org Obscure Stat of the Week.Congrats Dave! B) Go Zips! -
Why would anyone be excited about a home and home with Marshall? They are a shell of the program that they were in the MAC and nobody really came out to watch those games. I just dont get it.+1
