I thought the "Oh Canada" was pretty funny .. but not enough of them knew the words or stuck it out. A lyrics sheet might have helped.Go Zips!

Oh, I see.tOSU wannabes. Front runners. Only root for a sure thing. Too bad those Howdies missed a wellplayed Zips basketball game. Let's see if the Howdies have enough nads to show for the Kant Sucksbeatdown. Hello? Pot? .. It's kettle calling!

RP has made the observation that it would have been cheaper (both in $$$ and lives saved) if the Union had simply bought all of the slaves from their owners, set them free and then legislated the end of slavery. The war was more costly than the total investment that plantation owners had in their "labor pools."It's not hard to see how some would hear 3 words of his discussion and come to some belief that he thinks slavery was a good thing or something. RP just observes, with the benefit of history, that it would have been better to buy the slaves to end slavery than to have the destructive Civil War.

I figured it was in HD somewhere because I turned over to NBC and the elf was showing highlights in HD. I have direct tv I watched it on CNBC (channel 356), CNBC (channel 355) was showing curling in HD. I simply hit the "olympic icon" on the guide and that's where it took me.

Why is it that every season at least one game causes many Zips fans, including self-described die-hards, to step onto the ledge, forget every victory of substance in the past 5 years, and entirely lose faith in "their team"?It was one game. And yes, I'm asking about you.Go Zips! B)

I still say 10 wins takes the MAC East

I'm down with OZoner being here .. pragmatic opposing fans are always welcome. Like Districtballer for the most part.Go Zips! -
Did Butler sit around and wait for the rest of the Horizon to get better?Did Boise State football sit around and wait for the rest of the non-BCS football programs to get better? We need to improve ourselves. What Eastern Michigan or Ball State choose to do should have no bearing on the Zips. Like Butler's done to the rest of the Horizon, we can make the MAC our bitch if we make the investment to do so. If we don't, we won't.Agreed.Some of it may be the schedule, but I think a big part of this is finding away to improve the JAR from a player / coach facility perspective. It's the worst facility (maybe behind rifle?) on campus and behind much of the conference and the nation.UA has managed to catapult it's FB facilities squarely into the top 20 or so in the nation, bar none. The cost to do so for the hoops teams is a fraction of that. We've got to find a way to get that done. Note: I'm NOT talking about a new arena, or better fan amenities at the JAR. They're important, but way down on the priority list over better team lockerroom, film room & team rooms. For both the men and women. In essence, upgrade the JAR to be as good a team / practice facility as the Stile Fieldhouse is for FB.Go Zips!

No chance of hating that playa .. Ferry has always been one of my favorite Cavs. And if he brings home a title .. it'll only cement it for me further.

To me there's nothing funny about being stuck in the MAC.Mike Thomas & Luis Proenza set the bar high. KD, CP, Mack and You-Tube Tom are still working to exceed that bar.If you strive to "compete with the best of the MAC" .. you'll be really close to competing with the worst of the MAC .. and if the MAC gets worse .. you get worse with it. UA needs its programs to strive to be the best in OH and compete to join the best in the nation. Caleb has gotten his program to that level. Mitchell's track teams are close. KD can see the door, and the debate is whether or not he's knocking yet or not.Gotta aim high .. many of the programs, men's hoops especially are. I don't think KD benchmarks against Can't State, Miami .. etc. Take a look at who the Zips recruit against lately. Many of the recruits are Butler, Xavier, Dayton type players more so than CMU, BGSU, OU, based simply on their offers.Go Zips!

Maybe we should change the poll to:Danny Ferry: Thief or Genius?Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.
-
They trailed @ Miami for a grand total of 21 seconds. Winning by 5 at Miami is like winning by 15 at BG. It was a solid win in a game largely dictated by the Zips and their defense.

I agree .. things appear to be running smoothly at the right time. There's something to be said for playing & winning close games on the road. Some recent Zips teams got in stretches where they either blew the other team off the floor or lost a closely fought battle. This team seems comfortable in the tight contest.A VCU win would be a nice addition to the run. VCU's dropped back slightly, but it would be a high quality road win leading up to the final 2 weeks.Aside from Roberts new (or re) injury .. the Zips appear to me to be healthy and mostly rested for the stretch run. Conyers is putting up big minutes lately, but most of the rest of the team are well under 30 mpg. B) Go Zips!

Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Cooper is tied for 19th in assists per game (61st in assist rate), tied for fifth in steals per game (26th in steal percentage), and tied for 133rd in assist to turnover. Also, how many stars a player has is meaningless. Also, kenpom and Basketball State = awesomeCooper's been one of the best 2 or 3 players on the floor each of the 4 times I've watched OU this season. Seems like a high major guard to me anyway.statsheet.com = awesomer -
Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
But he leads the nation in Time of Possession.Horrible post, maybe one of your worst ever!Clearly this should be integrated from 0 to X, not alpha to X, and the implied assumption is that f(0) = 0. Then perhaps this argument holds water.Asleep at the keyboard again, CK? -
Zeke Closing in on D1 Top 10 Block Percentage
Zip Watcher replied to Dave in Green's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Even as I'm really happy to see statistics in between games .. and I like having the HV & +/- available, I will nominate "block percentage" as the ZipsNation.Org Obscure Stat of the Week.Congrats Dave! B) Go Zips! -
Why would anyone be excited about a home and home with Marshall? They are a shell of the program that they were in the MAC and nobody really came out to watch those games. I just dont get it.+1

I think the Zips depth and size present big issues for the Redskins. Fletcher simply can't play 2 positions for 40 minutes. If they had 2 Fletchers, it might be a different story, but they don't. It's a matchup that I like for the Zips. Game will be tight at the half .. maybe tight at the 10 minute mark of the second half, but Zippers come away with a 2 or 3 possession victory.Go Zips! B)

See the other 2 or 3 topics on the board. No one knows, it's a waiting game every year.
-
So it's either "stats" or "emotion?" How about "stats," and "having a free-thinking bone in your head to decide on one's own what one just witnessed?" If games were played by computers, then reading stats would be the perfect way to follow a team. Hell...there'd be no need to watch a game. The stats would be a 100% perfect representation of the competiton. But...sadly for Stat Guy...the games are played by human beings. Coaching decisions are made by human beings. Fatigue comes into play. Mental toughness comes into play. Crowd noise effects the game. Referees decisions affect the outcome. Things occur late in a game that don't occur at the 10-minute mark of the first half. Hustle-plays can win games, but cannot be quantified by statistics. And on and on and on...Some fans have the ability to blindly trust every move a player or coaching staff makes, accept those moves, applaud them and walk away from the game with no desire to kibitz about how the game played-out. To take the game at face value.Other fans value the human element of the games over statistics. Which team competed harder...which player shined over the others...which coaching decisions were puzzling and which were dead-nutz on, which player obviously didn't come to play on a given day...etc. They enjoy discussion of the game's ebb & flow. Of speculating how things may have turned out differently under alternate scenarios.I learn WAY more from reading this board and seeing how other human beings viewed the game I just witnessed than I ever could by evaluating a +/- sheet. People who need such stats to tell them what they just witnessed first-hand wasted their money on a game ticket.Viva the post-game kibitz - be it @ BW-3's, or the Internet!Great post, CK. Viva indeed. B) B) Go Zips!

I'll say that I prefer McNees to run the point over both of the other guys. Ronnie needs some time & I think he'll be fine. Humpty is Russel Branyan, strike out or grand slam.Steve is generally pretty steady, and it's my feeling at the games that the Zips generally play better as a team with him out there. Even when he's out there with Humpty, Steve runs the point, not Humpty.I can't pin Steve's TO at the end strictly on him. Roberts fell (or was tripped) down. Steve wasn't throwing to ZZZips. He's not a perfect player, but for me, he's the best floor general we've got.
-
Anyone catch what he was listed at on the program? Was it 5-11?If the guy was a Zip, we'd be labeling him 6-1 minimum. He had a nice game, and has a nice game. If he can thicken up just a little without losing his quickness, he should have a good shot at the next level.I thought the difference today was depth. End of 2 OT's, pretty much the same amount of fouls called each way, and OU had a little more foul trouble than the Zips did. Also, I think when Brett caught fire in the OT periods, there was a big energy level difference between the teams.Big BIG performance from both Seniors Sunday. Great work. Nice to string some of these tight games into wins. B) Go Zips!

I've added an RSS import into the Hoops forum. So whenever Nav publishes a new entry .. it will show up here in the forums. Like say .. when he has no life and goes back and does all the games in the MAC schedule .. hypothetically.Great job NAV!
