I think you kindof had to interpret the JUCO / Transfer approach he's been taking as an indication of a plan to move on sooner rather than later. So this doesn't surprise me at all. I do think the move to TCU is a bit surprising, given the rumored interest of Oregon State and Providence. It probably means he wasn't really on the inside track for either of those gigs. And he probably didn't want to wait for the Xavier job to open up. But with a Zip running the show at Xavier, or at least heavily involved .. maybe he wasn't hot on their list either.Good luck to Jimmy C. I'll say one thing: While I'm not a fan of the 2 year player approach, and much prefer the stability and growth we get to watch with KD's approach, you have to admit that Jimmy was a master at getting the chemistry to come together mid-January. It seems like the past 3 years, the wheels have been wobbling a little coming out of Christmas .. and then all of a sudden, he'd find the combination and ride it to the top of the MAC. One time could have been an accident .. but 3 straight .. no the guy has figured out how to mesh differing personalities.Geno being the coach at Can't State has to frost the asses at bobcatattack .. but would Geno go back to the place that ditched coach Hunter? I wonder if the firing of Hunter ultimately hurts OU in the long haul. There are some young rising coaches around (Geno, Boals ..) who might think twice about going back to Athens.Ultimately, I'm happy we've got our guy. Wouldn't trade him for anyone.Go Zips.

I think it would have helped if Villanova hadn't gotten totally pasted last night. A Davidson Villanova game might have had Davidson as the favorite. With nova not even giving Kansas reason to work hard .. the jayhawks should be fresh.

Remember This Wager?!I think this is year 2 of 5, based on the dates of the posts, right?GOOO DAVIDSON! Win one Sunday!Go Zips!! B) B)

It'll have to go to something like hoops, right? So first tie-breaker is head to head. In a 3way tie, that's 1-1 for all teams. Then it would go to best record against the top teams in the league, going down the list.Unless three teams tie with 1 conference loss each (against one of the other 2), that would solve the issue, since they'd all have lost at least 1 other game. .. but then if they all lose to the 4th place team .. hmmm.Maybe overall record has to be factored in?

All,I have taken steps to inform all about permissible behavior regarding contact w/ recruits & their families. See the announcement above. As it relates to what goes on here at the Nation, I have reviewed what I can find about the contact issue, and here's the current approach for the time being. With further clarification, this may be modified. Due to the fact that we know that some members of the Nation are contributors / members of the Z-Fund, we will assume that all ZipsNation members can be considered UA boosters. A conservative tack is the safest approach.Contact MAY be initiated by a recruit or family member. The recruit / family member is not prohibited from contacting / updating the Nation. The booster should not make any effort to recruit the prospective student-athlete, and instead direct questions to the appropriate UA coach. Pleasantries can be exchanged, but boosters should refrain from direct recruitment activities.Discussion about recruits amongst ourselves and why we think a recruit might like UA and why we hope he / she chooses UA is perfectly fine and should continue, without direct contact to the recruit or the familyJust to be clear, I think we all agree that we'd love to have the best & brightest prospects choose to become Zips. That's not at issue here at all. However, we need to let the coaching staff do the recruiting under the guidelines in which they operate. As a result, posts here that could be construed as contacting the recruit or family member may be suppressed until it is clear to the Moderators that they are appropriate. PM's and Emails should also be avoided.N.B.: I am aware that this may be excessive restraint .. but it is the goal of ZipsNation.Org to support Zips Athletics in any way we can. In this case, supporting the UA Athletics staff may mean not interfering or generating unnecessary conflicts with accepted recruiting practices. We do look forward to hearing more updates from any recruit's families if they choose to initiate the contact to update us here and feel comfortable doing so.I hope everyone is having a nice day. Thanks for your understanding & Go Zips!!

Spoken like a guy who hasn't seen this team play much this year .. by your own admission.Nate is a lock down defender. Simply put, probably the best on ball defender in the conference. Take a look at the averages of some of the guys he defended this year, and then compare to their games against the zips.l Start with the kids at Temple, Wyoming, UIC and UMass .. every one of them came in to the games against the Zips with guady numbers, and put up well short of their averages .. well short.Nate takes guys out of the game. And he'll do it again next year.

There is no doubt that you have two logins, and that you have used both .. the software is smarter than you. The word is "traceability."I'll eliminate the newer one, per your request.

Hilltopper, thanks for the support. But a small correction. The intention of this site is NOT to be a mouthpiece for UA Athletics with no objectivity. It is simply to be a home for Zips fans on the web. You credit me too much .. you recall the meeting @ Porky's several (6?) years ago that started this site up. We aim to provide a gathering place free from spam, personal attacks and advertising, right? Hopefully we're doing that?As for the posts in question, Roo44 .. I didn't see them, as I was busy driving back from Amherst yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't see you at the game .. perhaps I left too soon to meet you? At any rate, if you posted multiple things that were deleted multiple times .. then it's likely they violated our simple rules of decorum, personal attacks or good taste. We do NOT make a habit of deleting posts that disagree with our opinions. Do a search on the term "Spoiled" and see how many posters threw that back at me .. and the fact that they weren't deleted. Now HERE is where you're getting into trouble sir. You agreeing with yourself doesn't change the math. Even creating 2 logins doesn't make you a crowd .. you're still an individual. Logging in twice doesn't make you a movement. Please let me know which login you'd like me to delete for you (rowdie2008 or RootforRoo44). I'll be happy to nix either. Do it again .. and both will be suspended for a period of time.Again, I haven't seen the deleted posts .. so I can't speak to specifics on them. I have confidence in the Moderators. I can tell you that we have a VERY slow trigger finger around here on these things. Congratulations for being the first in several months to make it itch.

Public Service: UMass Trip Route
Zip Watcher replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Thanks ZZZips .. Boals let me know the hotel .. so we're booked there for Friday night .. should be there sometime this afternoon .. put about 500 miles behind us yesterday.See you there. -
Thanks for stopping in!Zips play UMass Saturday at noon on ESPN.We'd like to have the Zips make free throws also.

Gas up the pinto Z-P .. put some logs in the locomotive Hilltopper! It's Zips Road Trip Time!As a public service announcement to the Nation, here's a suggested route for the holiday weekend.Click Me for Fun For the Whole FamilyIt's about a 9+ hour drive straight through to Amherst. So why not break it up for each member of the traveling party:1. Stop in Saratoga Springs to buy your lady friend something nice .. very nice town for an overnight stop. Very quaint little spa town. This is for Zips fans who have some convincing to do.2. Pay a visit to the Naismith Hall of Fame in Springfield, future home of plaques honoring the exploits of Zips such as Keith Dambrot (4 national titles in 8 years from 2009-2017), Ronnie Steward (NCAA all time steals leader), and Zeke Marshall (NCAA all time leader in blocks). This stop is for the kids in the back. Hands on exhibits .. and B&W movies of George Mikan for your Dad. "You're right Dad, Mikan would have dominated Shaq .. I'm sorry I doubted that."3. See the Zips dispatch the UMass Minutemen @ the Mullins Center in Amherst, MA. Another step in the program building process. First of many national TV games on ESPN. Execs rush up from Bristol, CT to try and get an exclusive deal from Mack Rhodes.4. And is Uncle Louie or Aunt Marge looking to scratch that gambling itch? You're in luck. Turns out the Turning Stone Resort & Casino is right on your way back home. Drop them off in the slots room while you get some needed rest .. and you're back on the road in time for Easter dinner back in Akron with the family.I'm looking forward to an exciting holiday weekend, that's for sure.Hope to see you there!Go Zips!ZW B) B)

2 Local 1st Team D-1 Players
Zip Watcher replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Isn't this guy good enough that he'll get a ride somewhere? Hard to imagine a D1 first teamer not getting some looks for NCAA D1 scholies .. even low major. Not sure that walking on here is the best thing for him. Lots of talent in the backcourt .. on scholie. -
Tulsa also does in Miami sans-Bramos. Gotta believe he would have made a difference in that game. Miami had been playing really well of late.

After all that yapping about how beneath them we were for the BB game .. VCU makes a quick exit from the NIT at home.

At the time I was there, it was a healthy rivalry .. not unlike UA vs. the school that shall not be named. Make no mistake, the schools / fans don't like each other.Back then both schools played football in the Yankee (I-AA) Conference, so there was some direct competition on the field. UC's big game was vs. Yale, but UMass was important as well. That went away when the Huskies went 1-A a few years back.I'm not sure how it is now. They played a string of hoops games called the "U-Game" that started after Camby left. There was always a big argument on who was ducking who .. and where to start the series, but they got it done. I think it was 8 years or so. And UMass won 1 time. That's right 1 time .. and it was the most recent .. so that's all they've got. UC has a BIG lead in the head to head. (UMass guy, you can look that up on www.UMassHoops.Com - More than just a board).Camby was a NICE player for them. They were solid for a few years, but in the New England area .. they've become sort of the little step brother or something to BC and UConn .. UConn goes on to win some NC's and UMass drops back to be mid/upper echelon A-10 .. so I can see why they're a little sore.Go Zips!!! .. end their season & let's move on to another BCS game.

I'd be surprised. He's still in the coach's plans. Defensive stoppers aren't everywhere. Hope that doesn't happen.

$200?! From CAK to where? And what were the dates / airlines? I'm finding ~700 minimum going into BDL (Hartford/Springfield).

With the NIT fun going on, I forgot all about that other thing.

Speaking of that, how many do you think would have been at the JAR last night for a game vs. FSU?I'd bet about 3000 .. maybe more. Definitely more than FSU or UMass had .. maybe combined. -
I'm concerned about next year's recruits
Zip Watcher replied to wutup_nj's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I really have no idea what team you're talking about .. because it can't be the Zips. This year & next are the deepest, most talented rosters we've ever seen. Where is this notion that "he recruits average role players" coming from?Steward: 1st team All-Ohio D2Swiech: 1st team All-PA (3 stars in the rankings if you like)B. McKnight: 1st Team all Ohio D1 - Coaches association state POYHitchens: 1st Team all Ohio D2 - State title winnerMcNees: Post Gazette big 5 all star .. other recognitionsThats' just off the top of my head. I'm sure that McClanahan will get a mention in the WV HS all state teams .. the guy was nominated for McDonald's All American. Last year 2 teams in Ohio recruited more than 1 member of the all state HS teams. tOSU and Akron. That's it.On Saturday our recruit went by the Mr. Basketball that's going to OSU and dished for the game winner to win the D2 title.I don't see the recent recruits as "random average." These guys are all playing for wining HS teams, pouring in tons of points, and garnering statewide accolades at every turn. What Rivals and Scout say is based largely on old AAU data and summer camps .. not on court results during the season.I got my shades on .. What other tournament? Haven't even looked at a bracket.
