Beating Ken Lolla makes it that much sweeter
GoZips replied to ZipRoo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Perhaps this is the kiss of death ... but, I don't think so. Coach Porter said to not worry about him leaving Akron. He has already begun work on the 2011 season with the intent of playing in the College Cup again. Its Ken Lolla that just might be headed to NC State. Got that tip from a real source. -
This horse is still dead ... Why do I say this? Simple. The Ianello supporters have no interest in the truth. edit: I was there when the alleged comment was made. In truth, it was hurled right over the top of me (I was sitting at a table) directly at Ian. This issue only exposes the lame that still think obama, er, Ianello, walks on water.

Sure looked like him. And not a visual that I wish to associate with our National Championship. LOL Thanks Meatwad, Just a priceless video !! Please forgive me if I edit those last couple of seconds out ! Hahaha, yes it was Wistercil at the end. I totally didn't expect to see him come out of the water, but when he did I had to get some footage. Feel free to edit. Maybe, just maybe, uncle Tom is starting to "get it".

Beating Ken Lolla makes it that much sweeter

I hate to bring this up at this point but the rumors ofPorter moving on are coming to the surface again. It is now being said that he is heading to NC State. What do you guys who are close to the program think about all this stuff? I am concerned every time I hear this stuff as my grandson is a verbal commit for 2011. Did I miss something? North Carolina State would have to spend a boatload of money. For what? To out shine UNC? Naw, signing Porter isn't the answer. Hiring Ken Lolla for a lot less money works. Louisville, more than Akron needs fear that their coach is headed for greener pastures. At last check, the ACC is thee soccer conference. My money is on Louisville finding themselves in a dog fight to keep their social climbing head coach. If Kenny left Akron for a Big East gig, he'd leave a BE school for the ACC in a New York minute. Plus, with Wake Forest coming to Akron next year and some other excellent OOC games scheduled, Akron is the place to be. 2011 the dynasty continues. -

Congratulations from Louisville
GoZips replied to TopCard's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
TopCard, Louisville and Akron share one malady in common. Both of these fine coachs will be throughly tempted by dazzling offers in the coming months. The glitter is great; the temptations strong. Lolla has bolted in the past. Thus far, Porter has not. If coach Lolla is important to Louisville then he needs to be locked into a high dollar, long term contract, ASAP. And, having a banner in your soccer stadium that reads: 2010 National Runner-up is by no means demeaning. Akron already has two of those. -
Difference between Cowlumbus and Zincinnati is that Cowlumbus is in no danger of the river changing course and putting Zincinnati on the other side. Folks down that way hate all things Cantucky.

Beating Ken Lolla makes it that much sweeter

Reading the Louisville Courier-Journal I discovered that according to coach Lolla, “On a day where clearly we were not at our best, we found a way to hang in there and at the end of the game (have a chance to) equalize it,” U of L coach Ken Lolla said. “It's unfortunate, but it just didn't go our way today.” What kind of an excuse is this for a team playing in the national championship game? Caleb Porter had his team prepared for this game eleven months ago. No wonder you are at Louisville, Kenny. You belong there. p.s. coach, man up and admit your team got beat by the better team and offer your congratulations. -
Let's get one thing straight right up front. Akron, not Louisville, is the best men's college soccer team in America. We are number one, they are pretenders.

What an incredibile feeling we are all enjoying. Congrats to thee BEST team in college soccer. -
God bless Caleb Porter and the rest of the AK-Rowdies.

GoZips88, I believe your prediction just might have come true. David Meves (not my favorite goalie) redeemed himself in the pipes during the PKs.

You want an argument? Fine; I will give you one. Steve McNees is the shooting guard. It seems that he has not yet fully accepted his new position. I could be wrong, but, it sure looks like Steve is fighting to remain the point guard. That must not happen or the Zips repeat last year. Steve is going to continue having the green light to shoot the ball. Sooner or later (sooner preferred), he is going to hit his stride and be productive points wise. Steve is an excellent all round player who brings intensity and a winning attitude to the Zips. Just give him time. This is a huge change for him. I believe that as a team player and a winner, Steve will be playing great ball at the shooting guard position soon. A shooting guard must be without conscience. That is, he must have the attitude that his next shot is going in. That he has missed ten in a row cannot phase him or alter his attack. Akron's success this season depends on Steve playing the shooting guard position well. Abreu is not a shooting guard. Alex is a point guard and a good one. Darryl is a true combo guard that can play either position. Granted, Roberts is a better shooting guard than point guard. Akron is extremely thin at the guards. The best fourth guard is surprisingly, Nikola. However, as well as Nik is playing down low it would be insane to move Nik up top at this time. Now, some of you might find my statement regarding Nik as crazy, it is not. Nik has played the guard spots in practice on a number of occasions. There is a reason for this. Remember Pardo of Gonzaga? His size allowed him to simply go over the top of Steve. Not pretty. Nikola would stop Pardo in his tracks. As for the kids. The only way they develop is to play them. What? You expect these mid-major caliber freshmen to be instant super stars? In due time, in due time. Remember, too, that one freshman had his red shirt burned because of unforeseen events with regards to Brett McKnight. Starting Abreu in the Detroit game and now the UIC game gives him the experience and confidence he is going to need for the up coming games against quality opponents. That coach (KD) is a crafty dude hell bent on winning. Put your trust in him.

The half time buzz in the stadium concerning the ejected (yes, he was ejected by the center ref) AR is that he failed to signal the Cal player offside when the Cal player scored the first goal. Caleb apparently was livid and argued with the AR. The CR came in on the dispute and eventually tossed the AR. The AR's actions or lack of action is a flagrant violation. To put it bluntly, he was cheating in Cal's favor by allowing an offside player to score a goal. What puzzles me is why wasn't the goal disallowed or the Zips given a penalty shot to start the second half. The NCAA needs to investigate this problem. It is sad that we now have evidence of NCAA officials CHEATING.

Michigan wins on golden goal in second overtime 3-2 The wolverines will be one tough customer should our Zips advance.

North Carolina advances for the third time on penalty kicks 4-2

Thanks, Spin, I enjoy hockey. I thought that UA club hockey died several years ago. For dummies like me .. where is Center Ice?

Quickzips, how many shots do you expect from your shooting guard? I think if McNees is efficient enough with the ball 8 or so per night would be about ideal. You have to remember where Steve's shots are coming from. He takes a higher percentage of his shots from 3 than pretty much any player in Zips history. Not more than the Wizard of Wadsworth I bet Goddard scored 98% of his points from three point range. For the record, according to the stats on espn.com, Goddard took 105 shots during his career, 93 of which were three pointers. He scored a total of 134 points (108 from 3-pointers, 12 from the line, and 14 as 2-pointers). For his career he shot 38.7% from 3-pt land. I believe Steve's percentage is 451 of 602 being 3-pointers. McNees' 3-pt shooting percentage is at 35.9%. At 35.9% this means that Steve is scoring over fifty percent based on two point play. Thus, why would any coach, player of fan want to limit Steve's scoring to eight shots per game? R U serious?

KD did his part. Steve has to take on the mantle. Four shots from the field and four assists in 28 minutes speaks volumes that Steve still sees himself as the point guard. That spells loss. Steve, give it up. Abreu is the point guard when he is on the floor. Shoot the ball ... !!!! The assists are great. The four measly shots sting. Akron needs ten shots and 12-14 floor points from Steve to be effective. Shoot the ball ... !!!!

You are correct. I lived in the Bay area for more than a year. The weather across the bay from San Franciso is a lot warmer than SF is. Berkley/Oakland is California. SF is Puget Sound South.

Forty-four degees? Where? Game time temp verses IU was about forty, maybe. When the sun went down at five the temp plunged with it. Post game temp was close to twenty-eight. Update on Saturday forecast: High of 37, low 24 with mostly cloudy skies, no precip expected. That should chill their bones and not take away our footing. Rain/snow is an equalizer.

Football only? Not a chance. what does the MAC need with another grifter? However, UMASS has a division-1 men's soccer team. If football comes they must bring the men's soccer team. The MAC is in great danger of permanently losing their automatic bid.

Selection committee puffs out ite collective chest. Only seven seed South Carolina fails to make the Elite Eight. Tenth seed Michigan, the sole remaining Big Ten representative takes their spot.
