  1. The Sporting News article sheds some light. Not good news for Mr. Rogers. Sporting News Article I do not think that either AD Smith or President Gee are going to fall on the sword for the Vest.
  2. Rationalize all you want...Tressel is a sham. A liar. A cheat. He's Jimmy Swaggart...Jim Baker...insert whatever other phony baloney religious charlatan you want. He's exposed big time, baby. It is fact. I guarantee he doesn't end up at BYU after he's fired. A huge PLUS ONE on this one. Hey, UAZip0510, please bleach your tOSU sweat shirt until its pink so we know who you are when you attend Zips events. Oh, you don't attend Akron sports?
  3. You think I was talking out my hairy arse when I stated that the typical tOSU fan would fall on the sword? Read The Lantern and especially the posted comments, which by the way are growing rapidly. The posters want the article writer sacked; not Mr. Rogers. They do not care about cheating so long as it benefits them with wins. Integrity be damned; vote for the Vest.
  4. Defense? What defense? The Zips once again played defense with their hands in their pants pockets. Reaching up occasionally to unsuccessfully swat at a shot going over their heads. Fortunately EMU was terrible at shooting threes. Lest it be a long night. That zone sucks. It collapses to ball side so much that often two perimeter players are wide open Fortunately, there is no DJ Cooper on EMU. No wonder OU toasted us twice. You just can not leave shooters that open; ever. Zeke was given the radio show "defensive player of the game" for his blocked shots, shot alterations and nine rebounds. He deserved it. His three blocks and subsequent passes to his team mates was a thing of beauty. Kudos to Nikola. He is the only Zip you can hear from the stands as he calls out passes, etc.
  5. This is a pretty accurate and fair analysis of the game. The refs were atrocious, evil, and they "homered" the Zips. Mostly with the "no calls" on EM "we will hook and hack you to death"U. Oh, and the rubber duckies never called EMU on lane violations all night except real early in the game. You could build a city in the paint at the EMU end all evening.
  6. You folks have all missed the point(s). ALL the sanctions imposed on tOSU have come from the AD. The NCAA has not had any hand in determining punishment up to this time. The NCAA doe not tip toe around and set up the best deal for the offenders. Rarely does the NCAA, "ok, boys, you hit yourself hard enough in the face with the hammer", let culprits off this easy. As for this being minor, (cough, cough), players suspended for five games (nearly half a season), the head coach stepping aside (for two patsies) for two games and a personal docking of a quarter million dollars of his pay does not even come close to punishment for a (sic) minor infraction. Who the hell are you trying to kid? tOSU is smacking themselves in the face with the hammer in hopes that the dreaded NCAA lets them off with just this damage. More likely is that we are looking at a tOSU iceberg. Mr. Rogers, er, the sweater, has a long and colorful history of cheating. Tossing words like character and integrity around describing him is a blatant insult to all men of real character. The reputational damage done to tOSU will take years to repair. But, alas, football gin mills really do not give a damn so long as the money keeps pouring in. tOSU sheep, er, faithful will turn a blind eye and continue to fork over all the shekels needed to keep tOSU in the green. Suggestion: Let the Pig Ten (burp) choose which FOUR conference games the sweater has to be not involved with. That is a punishment that will send shock waves through the faithful. Oh, for you that doubt it: I personally loath tOSU.
  7. UAZips, great find. Thanks for sharing.
  8. CSN article is less than glowing about Akron's five star recruiting class. While the article is lengthy it just does not "snap" out as high praise. I am wondering if CSN would even put the Akron class in their top five. It certainly is not the top recruiting class looking through their rose tinted shades. Just remember this 2010 National Champions.
  9. 1,800 to just under 2,000
  10. I agree. Let's be real here. Realistic comparison of what we think different players do better or worse than others can be interesting. Hyperbolic criticism of players that is not realistic is not to be taken seriously. For example, here's a pair of real stats that make McNees and Rico look both better and worse than the other: Assists Per Minute Of Playing Time McNees -- .09 Abreu -- .19 Turnovers Per Minute Of Playing Time McNees -- .04 Abreu -- .11 So for every minute on the floor, Rico gets more than twice as many assists as McNees, but McNees has less than half as many turnovers as Rico. Here's another pair of contrasting stats: Steals Per Minute Of Playing Time McNees -- .02 Abreu -- .07 Fouls Per Minute Of Playing Time McNees -- .06 Abreu -- .10 So for every minute on the floor, Rico gets more than three times as many steals as McNees, but McNees commits fouls only about half as often as Rico. Being real about this is to admit that there's no way anyone can watch the games, compare the stats and come to a reasonable conclusion that one of these two players is head and shoulders above the other in all aspects of the game. dave, my post had nothing to do with steve. just a simple observation that abreu is a little out of control. take it easy pal Looking from a better angle ... it appears that Abreu is more agressive than Steve. I think that is a good thing. Steve is just fine. Abreu is the future happening now. Abreu ignites the team. Steve stabilizes the team. There are times for each style. I say, utilize them both.
  11. Lest we forget: Zeke is still growing. That is, he is still getting taller. This means that his metabolism is geared to growing. He is still in a youth's body as opposed to a young man's body. LeSkunk passed through his growth spurt and reached an adult metabolism about age fifteen. A man has a larger frame with more bone mass. It is caused by testosterone. Now, I am not a doctor, and a doctor could put this in scientific terms. I can state it in laymen's terms. Zeke will, eventually, produce the testosterone that will cause him to develop muscles and bulk up. Its coming. Oh Lord, its not coming soon enough. I was once told that Zeke's patella measurements indicated that he would grow to seven-three. Zeke recently passed through seven-one. This height I got from his step-father (a man who loves Zeke). Be patient. When we see Zeke at a soccer game escorted by lovely young ladies and his X-box is no where to be seen, we will have the proof that his testosterone has kicked in.
  12. What the hey? Carping about Abreu. Sheesh. Wish you clam heads would pay attention to your idol's inability to play the point let alone the two guard where he belongs. Abreu is a solid, contributing player who is getting under minutes because his coach has the Hipsher syndrome. i.e. only his sons can be trusted. Compare Abreu's stats to the golden boy's. Abreu wins. Hands down Abreu wins. Half the floor time, nearly double the points scored, more assists, the game changes to positive. Golden boy disappears when he is moved to the two hole. Check the game play-by-play. Abreu would get twenty-five minutes or more if golden boy manned up and played his ass off when he gets switched to the two. KD is pulling the wrong guy. Here I read that Abreu had one for five shooting. And golden boy had? Oh, one for five shooting. In golden boy's favor is that his was one for five in twenty-nine unproductive minutes while Alex got his one for five in eleven minutes. Alex outscore golden boy seven to four and has two-thirds the assists in less than half the minutes. Here is a teaser for you. Play golden boy on the point and move Alex to the two hole. Let Alex drive and shoot while golden boy runs the offense. Alex's handicap here would be his size. Nothing else.
  13. While in Ravenna this morning I saw an add in the Record-Courier asking Cant fans to wear the color gold for a "gold out". I think Zips fans should counter with a suitable different color. My suggestion is navy blue and more specifically, the navy blue National Champion tee shirt. Their claim being, "this game is on national televison".
  14. The question is: was there a buyout clause in the contract? Or, did the contract actually get signed? Seems to me its time for the AD and/or HC to fess up. I-coach has another muck up?
  15. Never forget? Why? Were you rooting for Miami? My gawd, one of the biggest swings of sporting emotion that left me with a punched in the gut feeling for days. Why would I not want to forget that? Thanks for reminding me. Never forget? You never forget, I want to, except you keep posting one of the horrific moments in Zips fans history. Keep it to yourself. I was having a perfectly fine day. It means: Dont forget how much we were screwed in that game and that we should hate Miami with everything we have (just like Can't) because of it. We didn't get screwed. We choked-away the game. And the Miami kid made a miracle play, and game over. +1 on Dr. Z's comment. That photo, or any related videos, will never again appear on ZipsNation. This is a stupid argument because it's pretty much established fact that the clock started WAY LATE, and that makes it about as much of a screwjob as they get. Especially because if the game would have ended correctly with that shot not counting, we would have won.... ....BUT I will remove all traces of that horrible game from ZN.o if it's bringing up torturous memories for my fellow Zips diehards. I understand completely. (Dr. Z, tear that pic down!) Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana, poet, author, philosopher. Pollyanna lives. Let's all feel good and sing Kumbya. Are you kidding me? Keep the images and rants lest anyone forgets the screw job laid on the Zips. Its the squeaking wheel that gets the grease. The sheep merely get sheared. Foolish, foolish, foolish to pretend this atrocity never occurred.
  16. Wednesday night gameday the parking is abysmal even with 1,800 game attendance.
  17. Imagine the game's outcome if Wilt and Baumgartner had not been poached. Jodi is a tough lady and she demands the same of her girls. Keep the faith. Akron women's basketball has never been this good before. MESPHOR or what ever his name is a lot closer to the truth than he knows. Next season, barring any additional poaching, the Lady Zips will be at the top. A tip of the hat to Baum and Tilt for showing your lack of integrity early. Watch what you could have been part of.
  18. The only way Diggs figures to be a key player next season is if, and only if, he greatly improves his ball handling skills. He has a big up side if he does the work over the summer. He also needs to see the floor and release the ball to his team mates. He tends to try and do it all himself which often results in a turnover. Got to like his "hops".
  19. Were there really so few people there? If so, shame on Akron. The Blue Jays are a name program and the game should have been close to sold out. GP1, this was posted "tongue-in-cheek". On the Creighton board a poster whined about there would only be 900 fans in attendance. I was at the game and it was much closer to 3,000.
  20. Looking on the Jays boards I am puzzled as to why they are trashing their team. I thought Creighton played a solid game with excellent ball players. I suspect that they under value their opponent (Akron) by quite a lot. The Zips are not chopped liver. In fact, Akron can be a formidable opponent for any team in the country. Creighton gave a good account of themselves. I would like to read a post from a Creighton fan that was in attendance at the game. A point made by the Creighton coach and one that was mentioned on the post game show was Akron going to a double power forward (Cvetinovic and McKnight) and how that changed the game. The Jays fell behind quickly at that point of the contest. I liked it immediately. Throws off game preparation when you are scheming for tall centers. Speaking of tall centers, was that not Mike Bardo's best on floor performance?
  21. My opinion sounds just like the rest of you. I think the Zips defeated a solid team tonight. Their overwhelming rebounding advantage was offset by their turnover hemorrhage. Sad that the Jays fans are trash talking their team when Creighton put up a darn good effort. Like everyone else, the refs were gawd awful. They seemed to have an anti-Akron, anti-Zeke bias. Akron wins despite the sorry officiating. Go Zips. And thanks to all 900 of you who showed up tonight.
  22. Guyton = 34 minutes Sherman = 31 minutes Greene = 27 minutes Holt = 25 minutes Porrini = 24 minutes Manns = 20 minutes I'd say they weren't holding any of the regulars back from their normal PT. Perrini hurt his shooting hand and left the game. Not sure how serious it was. As for us blowing out Drexel or Cant for that matter ... did you pay too much for that stuff yer smokin? Drexel plays solid, hands in your face, defense. Drexel rebounds like its a competition. We would lose to Drexel in our house.
  23. In this case, it's better to rely on the stats than on your impressions from watching them play. Rico is taking more shots per minute of PT than McNees: McNees -- 202 FG attempts in 796 minutes = .254 FG attempts per minute played Abreu -- 145 FG attempts in 497 minutes = .292 FG attempts per minute played Dave, an intesting set of stats. So, do we prod Steve to shoot more often or put the clamps on Alex? Based on Alex's feild goal percentage I think we can safely conclude that Alex can continue to shoot the rock. Frankly, I would love to see Steve shoot the ball more often. Now your stat is slightly skewed as Steve is finally comfortable playing at the shooting guard. Thus, Steve is shooting the ball more.
  24. Sorry, I can not recall a single loss that can be laid on Alex. The team loses; not a freshman guard.
  25. both guard spots defend...Abreu does not And your opinion is based on what facts? ## SUMMARY GP-GS Min FG% 3PT% FT% R/G A/G STL BLK PTS/G ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 04 MCNEES, Steve....... 25-25 31.8 .332 .309 .685 2.4 2.7 22 2 8.7 11 ABREU, Alex......... 25-15 19.9 .352 .329 .740 1.5 3.6 36 2 6.5 Let's compare our two point guards statistically. Abreu plays less minutes yet has the same number of blocked shots as Steve even though Alex is 5'-9" and Steve is 6'-2". Alex has THIRTY-SIX steals even though he plays no defense. Steve has twenty-two steals on the season. Alex has far more assists than Steve does. Why is that? Could it be that Alex is actually a true point guard while Steve, bless his heart, is a two guard pressed into service as a point? Alex has better free throw AND three point percentages. Maybe we should move Alex to the two. Oh, and Alex flat out has a better shooting percentage than Steve has. Here is what Steve has: Steve is an experienced fifth year senior who has game and leaves it all out on the floor. Steve would play the small forward, oh, wait, in the past Steve has played some minutes in the three hole. Steve can be relied on to settle down the offense. Steve is adequate as a point guard. In closing minutes of a game Steve can handle the ball even though his abilities to finish a possession with a score is below average. So, let Steve handle the ball until there is ten seconds on the clock then pass the ball to Alex to finish the job. Just think of how good Alex would be if he could only defend better. Right.
