  1. I am looking for a ride to Chicago and back. Was originally suppose to pool with GoZips88, but he can't make the trip. e-mail me at Gozips@aol.com or msg me through ZipsNation
  2. Thought this was going away, did you? Well, another can of gasoline was just tossed on the fire. Read on, McGruder .... Wrongful Influence
  3. WMU reminds one of the team dressed in pizz yellow. Stainbrook is a piece of work. You know he graduated from the Chris Singletary School of Thuggery.
  4. How is that good news? Where are the guys from Jar State? They got shafted, while Miami makes it with a .500 record. ZIP in Paradise, Must be that Balls finished second to Western. The Redhawks probably had a much better RPI and SOS due to the way Charley does OOC scheduling. For Lance99, the more MAC teams that get bids the more visibility and opportunity to showcase the conference. Its a win-win all the way round for MAC programs.
  5. Four MAC schools other than Akron and Cant live to play another day. Three schools soldier on in the College Invitational. MONDAY Buffalo (18-13) @ Quinnipiac (22-9) 7:00 pm TUESDAY Ohio (18-15) @ Marshall (22-11) 7:00 pm Furman (22-10) @ East Tennessee State (22-11) 7:00 pm Jacksonville (19-11) @ East Carolina (18-15) 8:00 pm Rider (23-10) @ Northern Iowa (19-13) 8:00 pm North Dakota (19-14) @ Air Force (15-15) 9:00 pm Northern Arizona (19-12) @ Santa Clara (19-14) 10:00 pm Portland (20-11) @ Hawaii (18-12) 12:00 am (midnight) WEDNESDAY Tennessee Tech (20-12) @ Western Michigan (20-12) 7:00 pm Iona (22-11) @ Valparaiso (23-11) 8:00 pm Oral Roberts (19-15) @ SMU (17-14) 8:00 pm Idaho (18-13) @ San Francisco (17-14) 10:00 pm While Miami plays in the better known College Basketball Invitational. The Ducks will play Weber State on Wednesday at their new $227 million, on-campus basketball arena. Oregon, from the Pac-10, is the only school from one of the traditional power conferences in the CBI. Central Florida plays St. Bonaventure at home on Wednesday. Boise State will play Austin Peay on Tuesday Davidson hosts James Madison on Tuesday. The other CBI matchups were: (dates not given) San Jose State at Creighton Duquesne at Montana Hofstra at Evansville Miami (Ohio) at Rhode Island.
  6. Also, was Keith on ESPNU yet today? They're supposed to interview every coach in the tournament. KD was interviewed for about thirty seconds at 2:15 PM (all times approximate). ESPN asked him two inane questions. Ones we all know the answers to. Basically, are you happy to be here? Can your kids get past the stars in their eyes and give Notre Dame a game? Coach was non-committal and said we'll be there to play.
  7. There was a time when I thought the "what time is it?" cheer was tasteless and crass. Then, during the 2007 run to elect Zippy as the best mascot campaign evidence surfaced that Can't State dunderheads were actively voting AGAINST the lovable marsupial. Ever since learning that sad fact, I have enjoyed the "What time is it?" rant. Oh, btw, Cant State STILL SUCKS!"
  8. The infamous "little birdie" told me at the Barley House that the administration is currently working on getting a new, larger, arena. Updating the JAR is merely a stop gap measure. The university is still pursuing moving to a new conference (read: BE).
  9. Exactly. I know it's our rival, but we should really be rooting for the MAC in the post season. The more wins the MAC can garner, the better off the Akron program will be in the future. It's going to be Can't/Akron and a few other teams for the next few years. The better the conference is the better seed we get in the future. I feel like most of the rest of you. I will root for all the MAC teams playing post season; including, I can't believe I'm writing this, the Flushers. Making the conference better is measured in cubic dollars. In these difficult times it is not reasonable to expect the bottom feeders to shell out more money. It will be interesting to watch what NIU does for their next men's basketball coach. The money they spend will be a bell weather to what is happening in the MAC near term.
  10. A really neat thing about our "staged" reaction was that the camera man prepped the audience. They knew that he would signal them when to react. Which they did on cue. Thus, there was no five second delay between Greg Gimbel's announcement and our reaction like occurred at nearly all the other schools on cam. Thank you, oh wise camera man.
  11. From what I was told by UA Ticket Office staff: The university is initially allotted 350 tickets with an option for 200 more. That accounts for the 550 mentioned earlier in this thread. Keep in mind two things. First, these 550 tickets are a block of seats usually close to your team. Second, ticket agencies such as Stub Hub have qualities of tickets for each session Just be prepared to pay more than the face value of the ticket. At Portland, which was sold out for the first session, there were scalpers asking about double the face value. Of course, Portland is in the sphere of Gonzaga faithful. Unfortunately, Chicago is nearly on the campus of Notre Dame. Chicago has a couple of million Irish fans. For those planning to make the trip to Chicago you have to plan carefully for driving in morning rush hour traffic in Chicago. Chicago traffic is not Akron traffic. You can get stuck for hours.
  12. Congratulations, we have our winner for the biggest douche on this board. Great. Just great. I have been a season ticket holder for more than thirty years. I know basketball. I know most of the team. I know the coaches. I know and love the program. I made the trip to Portland (knowing full well that beating Gonzaga was a pipe dream). I just made three trips to the "Q" (the last one on three hours sleep and having worked all day). I stayed for an hour after the great win over Cant. I went to the Barley House to share in the celebration with the team. Signed up for tickets to the Notre Dame game. And, some rubber turd calls me a douche for stating and honest and obvious response to a question posed by a legitimate poster. Kindly return to Portage County and crawl back under your rock.
  13. GP1 goes to church? Who'd of thunk it? From now on, I am staying close to the outside walls.
  14. The place was packed to the gunwales. Noisy, frantic and KD spoke. Hard to hear what he said or anything else in that din. Every one was happy and festive. The big concern is will there be enough tickets for all the people who want to go. After all, Chicago is only about one-eighth the distance Portland was. Besides, its Notre Dame, nearly as popular with the Zips faithful as tOSU. Sad.
  15. It is a HUGE screw job. Cant has to head for California ASAP. Three hour time differental, daylight savings just kicked everyone in the butt. A seven seed? The MAC gets no respect at all. Oddly, of the three NE Ohio schools, the one no one penciled in as having any chance of making the dance card is the only one going. CSU and Can't State get invites to the Nobody Cares Tournament. On the other hand, St. Mary's is likely one of those NIT schools that is p.o.'d about not getting an invite to the Dance. Look for the Gaels to put a whooping on the Flushes.
  16. Once again, the blundering, dunderheaded MAC stumbles. The MAC and the media heaped high praise on the Flushers top to bottom. Why I believe that even their water boy got more awards than the Zips. After watching the championship game I have to wonder just why did a coach get "Coach of the Year" for doing exactly what was predicted he would do. Why was the honor bestowed prior to playing the championship game? Why wasn't beating four teams in the conference tournament including beating the #3, #2 and #1 seeds one after the other not a consideration for MAC Coach of the Year. I think there should be a re-vote. Keith Dambrot IS the real MAC Coach of the Year.
  17. A friend who lives in Michigan phoned me just after the game ended. Of course, I never heard the cell phone in the celebration din. Ten minutes later I returned his call. He was jumping up and down, doing back flips, etc. He isn't even a Zips fan. He said that the Akron game flat out was the best game on TV in that time slot.
  18. Which foul that this turd committed are you referring to? Two that boiled my blood were "called and then reversed" when Fatso hard chucked D-robb in the back with 35 seconds to play, and handed the ball back Western and played on. Then, the one that I think should cost fat assed Steve "I am NOT the class act I use to be" Hawkins a several game suspension is the flagrant foul where Lard Ass kicked a Zip in the back of his leg AFTER the final whistle of the game. That piece of work SHOULD cost both Lard Ass and Fathead Steve Hawkins multiple game suspensions. There is no room in college sports for such poor sportsmanship. Truth be told; the piss poor officiating led to these abuses and Douglas' rant. The officials let WMU beat up on the Zips the entire game while calling ticky-tacky fouls on the Zips. I realize now that Diggs was probably reacting to many cheap shots he took in the course of the game. Do I excuse him? No, but I understand his frustration a lot more now. The MAC front office needs to review the game tape with the head coaches and the officials and levy fines and punishments against Hawkins and all three of the sorry officials. As for Boroski, he should be banned from ever officiating in the MAC again. He is flat out evil.
  19. This was a topic of much discussion last night. Zeke needs to get a wider base, and beat his opponent to the spot. Presently his feet are slow, and he doesn't get in good defensive position. He looks awkward, and that doesn't do him any favors with the refs. When there's contact, they will call a foul on the awkward-looking guy every time. Zeke needs to work hard on his footwork this summer. He can block shots all day long with whatever footwork he presently uses...but if he wants to stop an opposing center who's backing him down on the low block, he needs to widen-up. Well said. Let me add that Zeke needs to not leave his feet. Second, he needs to put less emphasis on blocking shots. I think it takes away from rebounding as well as leaving a hole in the middle. Zeke needs to live in the weight room, the chow hall and gym next off season.
  20. The kids are suppose to guard people ... especially on the perimeter. They didn't. Don't blame KD. With out looking at a video I am inclined to think that we were in a zone and as per usual, people were way too far off the ball. The foul to prevent the three strategy is for less than five seconds remaining only. I just checked. There were nine seconds remaining. Besides, Steve nearly pulled us out with a three ball at the buzzer. Personally, I have more issues with Diggs twice fouling a three ball shooter in the act of shooting. Forgive the first time. The second time, grrrrrrrrr, not happy at that fluff. Fortunately, their Roberts was on rubber legs and bricked half the free throws.
  21. Is this the head coaching opening that Jeff Boals is looking for?
  22. The heck with all the ups and downs. It was a great game. What we need to take away from this game is that the Zips "have game". They played their hearts out and over came their mistakes. This is the first time this season that they played like they want it all. Zips, go get it. btw: just a thought, I believe the Zips played themselves in a post season game today.
  23. The Lady Zips did themselves proud.
  24. I do question your love of the Zips. Every thing you have written concerning this issue is up their butt suck job for the Suckeyes. You need to read what you wrote. You do NOT write like you give a damn about Akron. All your arguments are those of a Suckeye lover. So, move to Cowlumbus or grow some nads and turn blue. Argue your points? Why? It is the same lame set of excuses the students at Cow State are lambasting the writer of the article in The Lantern with. The issue at hand is not about what any other program has ever done. It is solely about what tOSU and Mr. Rogers did. Go ahead. Defend the Vest. You will not because you cannot. He is guilty as sin and is not likely to even be associated with tOSU when they play Akron in September. When you grow up and have children of your own; you go ahead and accept their arguments "everyone is doing it".
