PD Reports that Winters is staying at Wayne State

The first time? Cause it was his first HC offer and a friend offered him the job. Now? Because its his baby, he built it, he controls it. -

If its the worst job in the country why would he want it? Thanks for making my point for me. If a guy with love for the place doesn't want the job, who in the f does? I didn't make your f-ing point. I'm tired of attitudes like yours. Tired of all this nonsense, tired of bs like you and zach and skip with your smarmy nonsense. You sit there and bash Detroit like its some s-hole. They have more money in that one city then the entire state of Ohio. Then you bash the job here. Bash, bash, bash, that is all anyone does on this stupid @$$ site. You ask people to be proactive and they bash, you ask people to try and be positive, nah I would rather be negative it makes me feel better if things go bad cause then at least I can say I was right. You contradicted yourself in your post moron. "How dare he not take this job that I think is better than Detroit but still the worst in the country?" He has an attachment to the kids and people there, it was going to take more than a little bit more money to come here anyway. Did TW botch this whole thing, quite possibly. You can say all you want that TW is an awful person to work for. But I am tire of this f-ing bs that Akron is the worst job in the country just because that bald idiot can't hire someone. -

Does it really matter, he's staying in crappy Detroit.

Well, its a theory and not fact. They can't be angry unless it comes out that they offered Winters some insulting deal that was clearly meant to be a "well we offered" kind of deal. -
That 7-5 season had 2 or 3 bad D-1aa teams in there, so it was really a 4-5 season.

This news depends on some things. What if Loeffler was the guy, but they threw a knowingly bad offer at Winters to appease the people asking for Winters? At least now they can say "we offered and he insulted us by turning it down, he didn't even counter offer". What if they were willing to go more if he had won the NC at Wayne State? -
Loeffler doesn't make me mad, but now he knows for sure he was number 2 on the list, what's to say he doesn't turn it down? Plus what kind of awful offer did they make to Winters?

Maybe I should have applied. I had the top recruiting class last year and have produced 3 Heisman Winners.

Sounds like Jungle Hunt to me. -
Well it should only be a matter of time for an announcement then. Way to waste our time Tommy Boy.

Then lay down your candidates.

That's not a contradiction. We don't tolerate losing. But iCoach did more than just lose. Those guys quit on him for a reason. Who knows why. But there is talent there because I've watched them play. I never said win a MAC title the first year. I did say win games and be bowl eligible by year 3, and there is no reason you can't do that. Temple has done it, UL-Lafayette has done it, FIU has done it. The right coach gets performance out of his players and can bring talent in to make a difference.

Yeah? You feel Johnson is the best, a guy that couldn't get it done in LA with all those resources? That Jim Mora Jr. doesn't want and didn't want, that bounced around the NFL for a long time, that hasn't been on this side of the country for a long time. Just curious how a coordinator from a bad program is tops on your list. Nothing against him, I think he may be someone worth looking at, he wouldn't be tops on my list, and the way at which you disqualify other guys not sure why he would be tops on yours. Call it a gut feeling. There's just something that feels right about hiring him, and feels off about Winters. That's fine, I would have said his extensive NFL connections and the fact he probably could bring in a lot of NFL talent to help coach, plus having west cost and Georgia connections wouldn't hurt from a recruiting standpoint. Like I said I am neither for nor against any of the three current prospects (Loeffler, Winters, Johnson). They all have positives they all have negatives. That's why I'm not the AD :-).

To ZR44, The firing of Ianello sends a message that we won't tolerate losing. Any coach coming in thinking they should get 4 years of "pass" doesn't belong here. The cupboard wasn't bare and he couldn't win, couldn't even coach right. Ianello got fired for more than just his losing record. The fan base was mad, there was huge pressure to get rid of him, he was doing nothing to connect to the community, and he was barely getting any recruiting done during the year. He wouldn't meet with any donors, and had angered several players with his lack of wanting to change anything. He was canned because he should have been. Any coach coming in is offered 5 years, even Ianello was. But every coach should be aware of the fact that regression two years in a row is failure and grounds for termination.

Paul Winters Overall Record (Wayne State)
g-mann17 replied to afootball's topic in Akron Zips Football
Akron has been bad for 6 seasons. If you go by current rules, we would have been bowl eligible 7 times in our D-I life time. We have been terrible for the past 2 seasons. Wayne state had 2 winning seasons in 25 years. He took a team far worse off then Akron in a city that doesn't even identify with the school they are at, and in an economically depressed area and recruited well enough to build a winner, and then coached well enough to get a chance at a National Championship. But for some reason that isn't a good resume. I care who gets it, but I'm not picking a guy because several have a good resume. But I'm tired of this "D-II doesn't matter" and "his record sucked". -
I would feel really good because I would know I had all the power at that point. I'm being called by this buffoon because someone is telling him to call me, not because he chose to call me. I know he is just a figure head for the process.

I have concerns about all the options because they are a unknown. If there was a way to predict success then all 120 schools would constantly have winners. I like how you spin things to make one look better than the other. Michael Johnson's whole career is based on the fact that he got to work with Vick for a short period of time. You say "he's been hired for many, many coaching positions" I say he can't hold a job (6 different teams in 12 years). You say "stuck in D-II for a number of years" I say being a head coach doing exactly what we want a coach to do. Every one of these guys has pros and cons. I have yet to see a detailed list of that for the known possibilities. Personally I like that Johnson has a lot of NFL and college experience, but show me how his accomplishments stack up to Winters or Loeffler. I haven't thrown my hat in completely for Winters, at the time the options were extremely limited and he was the best possible hire. I don't know who I like, but I will question people on why they like certain things and dismiss others.

Something blew up in the program during the Miami game. I have no idea what, but the whole attitude around the team changed the week following CMU. But you could tell there was a loss of faith in the coaching from the players. Maybe GP1 is right and the whole lot of them should be giving walking orders, but the right coach can come in here and get wins right away. I'm not saying championships (we don't have that kind of talent on the team just yet) but no reason these guys cant win 6 games considering the conference we play in.
-
Your perception of interest from other coaches is mostly based on what rumors we have heard. Narduzzi backing off is more likely due to Akron saying "hey we are looking at a lower pay scale then what you are wanting, so go ahead and pull yourself out". There has been a lot of interest, most of you seem to dream too big. I don't know what coaches you were expecting to come here. The interest is there, the price range for the work required is probably too low for some these coaches.

No, we are looking for a team that wins. I want a team that odds are they are going to win on Saturday. I think anyone that wants less than that should have been mad that Brookhart got fired. "Compete" isn't what we are looking for, "compete" means we are happy with a 3 point loss. No, I for one want to WIN!!!!

Oh Meister... If you see a Million dollar loss in year one (as expected in most new or rebuilding businesses) and see profit of a one hundred thousand each of the next 9, you are still 100 grand in the hole. Ask Ford about my example, or Apple.
