  1. UCF was 5-7 last year, FIU was 8-5 and lost to Marshall 20-10 in the Beef O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl. UCF is a mediocre C-USA team that trounced mediocre Sun Belt teams. FIU was a top Sun Belt team, but they will lose a lot of talent, they proved they are worthless without Carrol(sp) at QB. Both will be tough games, but with that said, when our guys were trying they hung with FIU. I think a well coached and reinvigorated team can come out and hang with UCF with a chance for a win. 08-30-12 all eyes on Akron. I believe there are a very limited number of games that Thursday. I know UMass plays their first game as an FBS team that night too.
  2. This is why telephones were invented. I hear the telephones were all tied up fielding calls from all the people wanting to renew their season tickets.
  3. Dadgum you were right on the money. Pluto is as mad as the year Tom O'Neil took the lowly North High Vikings to a 5-5 season because he couldn't right his post season wrap up article about how "this is what sports is about, not winning but being brothers and putting forth an effort" blech.
  4. As irritating as its "little engine that could" story has become, I would go with hemorrhoid.
  5. Oh, you talking about the dwarf planet's article?
  6. 3-5 wins for T-Bow, and I expect to get our Wagon Wheel back. Thursday August 30th, 2012....Zips Football is reborn.
  7. I notice that they zone block, which would be good for us. Less for the linemen to remember.
  8. Pardon my ignorance, but was the SEC as prominent in the 90's as they are today? Tennessee, Florida and Alabama won national titles in the 90s and Auburn went undefeated but was on probation. Not bad, I guess. Many polling services gave Auburn the National Title for the 11-0 season. Just not the official AP/Coaches Title or whatever the banner was called back then.
  9. They have fans?
  10. Makes sense. In business, you interview a number of candidates before offering the position to the one who you find through the interview process to be the most qualified. There are things that are brought out during the interview process that may cause either the interviewer or interviewee to decide that there is not a good match. It appears that UA and Bowden found each other mutually attractive during the interview process, and that mutual attraction did not work out with the other candidates. And if the first one you make the offer to turns you down then you don't count that as an offer and make your first offer to the second best candidate. Key word in this is "technically" Absolutely. The Akron folks drove up to Detroit to make a nontechnical offer. Exactly Meister, They went up to gauge interest in receiving an offer that didn't happen. You know like the ole junior high date question "you wouldn't, possibly, maybe be interested in going to the dance with me, if I was maybe to ask?"
  11. Quick blurb during halftime of Maaco bowl.
  12. Dambrot does have a show on STO, it starts Dec 26. Check local listings.
  13. Solich went the four year recruit route, not heavily Juco. The university never would have allowed it. Were not both Boo and the other QB transfers? Aren't several Linemen and DB's JUCO transfers?
  14. Any minute now I think. Stick with my not selecting a coach in this poll though.
  15. Oh, and anybody up for "War-Damn-Zippy", I mean we rip everyone else off why not Auburn. That Roo needed a name anyway.
  16. Interesting. No names come to mind and maybe that is a good thing. Maybe the type of person he is looking for would be more appropriate for where we are today. The one thing he really lacks is the connection with Ohio coaches. He will need to get some guys connected around Ohio, Michigan and W. PA. Well with his ties from W. Va that should help a little. But you are right, we need some Great Lakes/Appalachian connections.
  17. Now who does he bring in as assistants. No need for a new topic I don't think.
  18. I know he will never see this, or probably won't. But thank you Coach Bowden for two things. 1. For pushing to get your way to our school. It shows you have a belief that something can be done here. So many of us were on the brink of being hopeless, of giving up. You wanting to be here, seeking out the administration and pushing to get here is a bright light, a great moment for us when everything was darkness and awful football moments. 2. Also, thank you for that hope. Thank you for giving a group of fans, if even for a minute, a moment of unity, confidence, pride and hope for the future of our football program.
  19. First job for Terry. GO GET OUR WAGON WHEEL BACK!!!
  20. I don't remember the silhouette being so big LOL. But YAY us! Go Zips!
  21. Welcome back to civilization Terry Bowden. It's been a while. Awesome hire for Akron. Just made MAC, Zips matter a whole lot more. - Dennis Dodd CBS Sports Congratulations to Terry Bowden on being name HFC at Akron! I enjoyed the competition and friendship. - Ron Roberts HC SE Louisiana Terry Bowden named coach at Akron? Love it. Good for conference and coach. MAC helped Frank Solich get back on his feet at FBS school Ohio - Max Bretos ESPN Oh and apparently we play UCF on a Thursday night next year. Terry Bowden is the new coach at Akron? His first game will be against UCF. Knights open 2012 season at Akron on a Thursday night. - Brandon Howling UCFKnights.com
  22. Guys, guys... We went from no one paying attention to the program, to being front page of ESPN and CBS for a bit, Plain Dealer, Beacon, Canton Rep and we were trending on twitter. The "leak" was on purpose. People follow footballscoop on twitter. Akron leaked it to them, social media has done the rest.
  23. G. Thomas Article Well we know Georgie reads us, he quoted RowdyZip.
  24. If there is one thing to be said for the 90's...at least we beat Can't and Temple a lot
