Forgot about Chuck Martin, right type of guy, extremely successful at a lower level. Though some people have said "NO MORE NOTRE DAME ASSISTANTS!!!!!" I think we would all make an exception in Martin's case.

Dambrot had D-1 coaching experience, and success before getting boned for being a players coach. Winters is not comparable, sorry.

Fickell, Winters, Chryst, Wolford, and Stoops. Money was an issue with Stoops and Chryst. It came down to Wistrcill and whether he was going to listen to his mentor Alvarez and take Ianello or listen to Tressel and take Fickell.

Some on here won't like it, but I'd be ok with it. The performance of OSU had more to do with all the missing players then his coaching ability.

Additionally knowing journalism and news the way I do, they probably have checked in only to get no answer in return. You notice that the rumor was posted on Tuesday, the same day he found out his mother died and cancelled his press conference there was plenty of cover up news available at the time. Wait...did I accidentally go to bucknuts? Tressel was an excellent coach at a level below the MAC and an excellent coach at a level above the MAC. If he ended up here it would be the best thing to ever happen to the program.

I respectfully disagree. It doesn't take a lot of talent to win in the MAC...It takes the right talent at the right places. OU isn't dripping with talent, yet they won 9 games so far this year. They have enough talent to win a coach that helps them win. Winters can get the right talent. I'm in this camp. The MAC stinks and a good coach can turn it around relatively quickly. But how do we know he is a good coach? That was my original question. It wasn't about player talent. It was how are his talents. Do D-II schools play by the same rules. Scholarships, recruiting time, etc. Has he done what GV St did which is rely on D-1 and D-1AA transfers? That isn't a solid way to win at this level consistantly. I'm not opposed, but I do have a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Isn't this exactly why everyone believed TW hired his pre-school playmate 2 years ago? It wasn't drawn out and careful ... ? Why would we want a similar quick strike this time? Maybe we've been looking at this whole thing wrong. Maybe, we have had a 2 year coaching search. They kept referring to the program as a construction project. So maybe Ianello was the demolition man.

My only problem with Winters as a potential hire, and it is a small one...He isn't really there yet in the GLIAC and it's hard for me to say how much talent you need to be a successful coach at that level. If he was at a FCS school and he did the same turnaround, I would be a little more impressed. Other than that I would hope that if he was hired, he would go get Lee Owens to be his OC. I'm still pulling more for the miracle Big Fish hire...

Maybe he was on his way to Can't to watch his former coach in action. Tressel is not coming to Akron. It would be like a two term President running for Congress after his time in office. Or like a man who actually won multiple national Championships coaching at an awful Louisville after the USFL failed, and then winding up at FAU.

Other names to consider... Wisconsin OC - Paul Chryst Houston Special Teams coordinator - Tony Levine (Minnesota ties) Northern Iowa - Mark Farley Any number of coaches from successful FCS schools... KC Keeler, Hauck's replacement at Montana (though through only two seasons not sure how good he is) Ideally they look at someone with no ties to Wistrcill this time.

I didn't realize icoach was a past coach. When did he become a past coach and has a replacement been located? This also begs the question... Can we call Ianello a coach to begin with? one who instructs or trains <an acting coach>; especially : one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy <a football coach> I don't think he has done any of that. Definitely hasn't down anything with fundamentals, competitive, or strategy.

You answered your own question. If there is a difference between spread players and pro style (outside of qb I doubt there is much) and you run a pro style offense, players more suited or accustomed to that style would be a talent improvement. Kind of like if your company is an electrical company you would want electricians more so than masonry workers. What happened? You're negativity ruined the team. We do have talent, but Fire-nello doesn't know how to use any of it.

I know sarcasm, but... Some people need to get their butt to the Winking Lizard tonight and make a stink. You have an open forum there and could easily voice your opinion of Ianello. Don't you feel the empty stadium speaks louder than anything anyone can say? I would love someone to ask him "Why does this team appear to keep getting worse and can't even be competitive with the worst teams in CFB?" Well the stadium is empty because we have no games there . Besides I bet even with no games there are at least 12,000 people there permanently, how else do we explain the attendance numbers?
