  1. I am pretty certain we would get a bowl bid in this scenario. I know back when the Sun Belt only had one bowl tie-in that North Texas won the league title and played in the bowl game despite not meeting the 6 win requirement. its not really something I think will come into play this year though.
  2. I had the same thought, I'm just not too lazy to do it myself. I didn't count MAC games. Akron FCS 0-1 BCS 0-3 Non-BCS 0-0 Ball State FCS 1-1 BCS 0-2 Non-BCS 0-0 BGSU FCS 0-0 BCS 0-1 Non-BCS 1-2 Buffalo FCS 1-0 BCS 0-2 Non-BCS 0-1 CMU FCS 1-0 BCS 0-1 Non-BCS 0-0 EMU FCS 0-0 BCS 0-1 Non-BCS 0-1 Can't State FCS 1-0 BCS 0-2 Non-BCS 0-0 Miami FCS 0-0 BCS 0-2 Non-BCS 1-0 NIU FCS 1-0 BCS 1-2 Non-BCS 0-0 Ohio FCS 1-0 BCS 0-1 Non-BCS 0-1 Temple FCS 1-0 BCS 1-1 Non-BCS 0-0 Toledo FCS 0-0 BCS 1-1 Non-BCS 0-0 WMU FCS 1-0 BCS 0-1 Non-BCS 0-0 So FCS 8-2, BCS 3-20, Non-BCS 2-5. Most surprising to me is how few non-BCS games there are. That may be one of the MAC's big problems, we really aren't playing like competition. Most of the BCS games are against the Big Ten which probably has to do mostly with geography and travel. I've said before, I'd take one payday game, one FCS game (since you're not going to get a payday team to come here) and then two games against whoever (BCS or non-BCS) we can get to do a home-home series. If it is a BCS team. it is likely they are not going to be a top team so then it would be like competition. I'd be fine with a schedule like that. One MAJOR reason why the number of games against non-BCS opponents is down is the rule now allowing FCS wins to count toward bowl eligibility. If you are a WAC, CUSA, or Sun Belt school why play a MAC school in a home and home series when you can have a one and done home games against an FCS school that you will likely defeat? The same is true with the MAC, why schedule a non-BCS team when you can play an FCS school? I absolutely hate the rule allowing one FCS win to count toward bowl eligibility every year. Schools that would have scheduled programs like Akron in the past in hopes of earning a victory and acheiving bowl eligibilty (mid- and bottom level BCS schools as well as non-premier non-BCS schools) now can just schedule somebody like the Citadel or Morgan State. Heck, even the top BCS schools are now routinely scheduling FCS schools. It is a travesty and the programs in leagues like the MAC and Sun Belt are being hurt the most by it.
  3. ...and how about not letting the defense in the backfield within the first 1.5 seconds after the snap.
  4. Only been to three games alone but that was only because of the family not wanting to make the two hour trip on inclement weather days. I do bring the family usually.
  5. Would the MAC want Villanova for football? Wouldn't that fit make sense? The conference would have two Philly schools for football only and they'd be natural rivals for each other.
  6. Being unable to see the game and the PAT in OT, was it Igor's fault that it was blocked? Usually, in fact almost always, blocked PATs and short field goals are the fault of the O-line or the long snapper.
  7. Should Akron ever have lost this game? No, not at all. This was, however, a team playing their second game in new offensive and defensive schemes going against a team that had a good deal of experience in theirs. Its not a miracle by any means for G-W that they won. Akron has more talent but they are not nearly as good at the teamwork end of things and the schematics of what they are trying to do. Teams take a step back frequently when there is a head coaching and coaching staff change. They almost always take a significant step back when that change also includes a fairly radical change in schemes. Unfortunately for the Zips this significant step back is one going back from a 3-9 season last year. The upside is that this team will get better. They will be considerably better by season's end which may not be saying much. I do believe, however, that when the 2011 season rolls around this team will be much improved. That is something that plays out frequently in college football, we are just starting at a lower plateau (or valley I guess I should say).
  8. Thanks, I was just hoping it wasn't my issue as opposed to theirs. I'll check back later after a wedding I am attending. Go Zips!
  9. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong then. I go to the ESPN3 site and click on a game it says my system does not have an accepted provider and asks me to choose who I have. Time Warner is not on the list they give me. Any ideas?
  10. So, its been all over the news that ESPN and Time Warner finally reached a deal and that ESPN3 will now be available to those who get their internet services through Time Warner. My question is when does this take effect? My internet service provider is Time Warner but when I go to the ESPN3 website it is still not listing TWC as a choice when they ask for your ISP. Since todays game at the Info is an ESPN3 "exclusive" I'd like to watch if I could after I attend a wedding in Cincy today. Anybody have any insight on this?
  11. Is the Syracuse game going to be on ESPN GamePlan? I know its on ESPN3.com but I can't get that because I have Time warner as my internet provider. I can't attend the game in person because I have a wedding to attend in Cincinnati that day.
  12. I wouldn't be stunned if Temple was courted by the Big Ten. On the surface I know that brings a big question mark but when you think about it that would open up the Philadelphia TV market, create a natural rival for Penn State, and add a very solid basketball program to the "we're not football only" Big Ten mix. Also, if West Virginia was to move then why the SEC? That seems like a better Big Ten fit as well. The interesting "trickle down" in all of this to me is what happens to the Big East. In order to remain on par with the other BCS conferences they will need a championship game and hence 12 teams. They are already short of that and if anyone defects they would have even more work to do. They may be forced to look in the direction of the MAC and C-USA.
  13. It isn't all that often that my alma mater visits my home town so I always attend when the Zips diamondmen play in Columbus.. This was a good game that went back in forth. Akron went up 4-0 after two innings before the home team came back and tied it 4-4. Akron scored the next 6 runs late in the game and OSU scored 3 in the 9th and had two men on when the game ended. Kudos to the Akron fans that showed up. The Zips fans were nearly as loud as their homestanding counterparts despite there only being a large handful of folks dressed in blue and gold. Curiously enough, I believe Akron is now 2-2 against the Big Ten but only 2-10 against the MAC. I encourage everyone to go out and cheer on the baseball Zips. This team seems td do quite well when they are motivated. Often times Fan support=Motivation
  14. I am still of the belief that Steward can be that drive and dish guy you are looking for. The guy just hasn't had enough minutes on the floor. Its easy to forget that when they arrived on campus Ronnie was the starting PG over Hitchens. The Steward had the injuries and has been nothing more than a minor role player. Right now i think he is largely an untapped resource. He not only needs more minutes for experience but for confidence. Hopefully next year will be his "coming out party" like Conyers' was this year. If it is i think you'll have a Dru Joyce type player that isn't afraid to drive the lane.
  15. Depending on who else may be in it, I think I'd like to see us in that St. Marys tournament. Heck, why don't we host our own 8 team three game guarantee tournament? That may be something LeBron could be involved in as well. Just a thought.
  16. Anyone know if any online viewing will be available? I'd love to be there but have to work until about 6:30 which obviously doesn't leave enough time for the trek from just outside of Columbus.
  17. From loooking at the bracket on the CBI website, am I correct in assuming that IF Akron beats UWGB and Indiana State goes on the road to beat St. Louis that we'd get another home game? The bracket makes it look like the second round game would be in St. Louis regardless of the Billikens first round result. I have to think the second round game is there only if SLU is still alive.
  18. EXACTLY! We could maybe schedule one more opponent that is Top 25 or 30 and that would be fine with me. The bigger problem is how many teams we play that don't make the top 240 or 250. We don't need to play a lot more very tough teams, we just lead to play many fewer very weak teams. We need to play more winning teams from lesser leagues and not losing teams from lesser leagues. If you want to play teams that lose a lot then play BCS bottom feeders or at least second division teams from leagues like the A-10, Mountain West, and Missouri Valley.
  19. Just looking at the names, the CIT looks better. It's a tournament full of teams that look equal to Akron. Perfect to see just where we stand in the basketball world. There is a rumor about a Wisc-Green Bay at Akron matchup in the CBI starting to percolate.
  20. Just looking at the names, the CIT looks better. It's a tournament full of teams that look equal to Akron. Perfect to see just where we stand in the basketball world. The CIT is NOT better! It doesn't even use brackets which means they can arbitrarily put us wherever they want. Plus, in the CBI we could end up in the finals against a bigger name school. If that were to happen, since the final is a best of three we'd be guaranteed of hosting that big name squad for at least one game.
  21. I thought there were some questionable calls as there are in every game. Maybe more of those calls went Ohio's way than Akron's but still I didn't think it was anything like the quarterfinal against EMU.The most frustrating part about the officiating we saw in this tourney to me was how in the first two games they were calling everything as a foul and then they did an about face in the title game. I would like to see some more consistency than that.
  22. Definitely a great game, just came up short. This is sure one heck of a rivalry with Ohio. Are there any two teams that play more consistently even games meeting after meeting in the country? It seems like every game we play against them comes down to the last 30 seconds or overtime or double overtime or a few years back quadruple overtime. Fortunately, we've won most of those games. Unfortunately we lost the most important one.Congrats to Ohio, they earned the title for sure when you realize who they had to go through and even had to play a road game in the first round.OK, so where do we go from here?
  23. I sort of agree. I would root for them if they were in a position to make a big statement for the conference but I wouldn't necessarily mind seeing them falter against lesser competition if the league seemed to be on the upswing overall.
