I have a friend who has one side of her mouth permanently hooked upward. She had suffered a stroke. Indicating of course that she has brain damage. Perhaps his upward hook is showing his drain bamage. Honestly, I did initially consider a medical condition. But after watching him for a while I don't think that is the case. It's inherited. His father has the exact same "cocky" look when he talks on camera. Or "snooty" look. Of course it's gotten snootier since he joined the Galaxy.

From Sandon's post I wonder -- is the Hermann restricted to US-born or US citizen players? I don't think a non-American has won, but haven't heard it specified before. Isn't Teal from Canada? Yes, Teal is from Canada originally. And Stevo was runner up, he was not American born. Good points, however, Teal's mother is US-born, thereby making him a US citizen. And Zakuani did win the Hermann -- at least in Soccer America.

I was just going to point that out. For those of us who knew and liked Ken Lolla, it's nice to see him succeed at his goal of bringing LU into the upper echelon of college soccer. However, Chief has not recruited to continue in the lofty position. I hope he gets some help, perhaps from his successor, as UA and UL could be a great rivalry in the future. I hear through the coconut wireless that the two are the best of friends, too. Ken has a couple of Mario Sanchez' ex-UNLV players, including local boy from the isles, Brock Granger. Would love to see the two teams meet up in the post season. It could be in December (meaning the Final Four).

Yes.....The Townhouse. I'm sure a lot of us older guys frequented that place. That was the hottest bar on the campus back in the early 80s. You used to see a lot of the athletes in there. People would line up down the street to get in that place, even in the middle of winter. You couldn't move in there on a Friday or Saturday night. But, the drinking age was 18 back then too. I remember 25 cent draft beers on one of the weeknights. Made me miss a lot of classes the next morning. Ah..the memories. Yes, I have memories of the area as well. At least two acquaintances who contracted Hepatitis A from the joint (Plasma Ctr, not the Townehouse, far as I know). One nearly died. Putting this type of economic vampiracy in association with a lower class community and pennyless students is automatic exploitation. A worse set up than "check cashing services" even. This is a case of any change is better than one at all. Akron U, not Skid Row U. Whoops, I mean, The University of Skid Row.

It's a waste of time worrying about changing the opinions of wackos and those who are easily influenced by wackos because they're either not likely to get it or they just plain don't want to. Thoughtful, intelligent people really don't pay much attention to wackos on internet forums. If you politely lay out all the facts about the comparative severity of the Can't and UA player transgressions and the way each team responded in a simple A-B comparison, intelligent people reading the forum will get it. At UA, the team suspends players for a game for missing a class. At Can't, the team suspends players for a game for DUI and worse. Verifiable factual data is a powerful weapon against goofy claims. Thank you Dave. now you must understand why this thoughtful intelligent interloper on this internet forum called Akron a fourth-place team. And a classier one, I cannot remember.

Don't tell this to the folks on "the Plains". They might not bother to show for the Iron Bowl this year. I agree that Troy is no better than an upper MAC team. But they DID make the journey from D-2 to D-1 in a relatively quick period. Right! I'm taking UAB to win the Iron Bowl this year. As I recall, Troy couldn't beat BGSU at home.

I hate to correct mainland volleyball malihinis, but there were five games played. Every collegiate volleyball MATCH consists of at least three GAMES. The term "sets", comes from the sport of tennis -- not volleyball. Someone tell Gozips.com.

Well, that presents another opportunity for the Zip in Paradise to bet a cold brew with the locals! Creighton has a couple of great young players from Hawaii -- by Hawaii standards at least. Nick Goo and Kenny Spencer, both midfielders, I believe. CU is a favorite destination for private school (Catholic) students from Hawaii for some reason. And about half the dentists here went to Creighton.

I haven't found a lot of info about young DeAndre, but apparently he has played on several occasions with fellow 2011 recruit Will Trapp of Columbus Crew Academy. Do the boys have a bet on tonight's US Open Cup Final between their clubs? I also noticed that DeAndre was a grappler at O'Day HS. In fact he was in the 104 pound class at the 2008 Washington regional championships. I hope he's put on a bit of weight, if he wants to compete in the rough and tumble of NCAA soccer. His wrestling background may come in handy however, when the boys from Columbus (meaning not the Crew, but rhyming, OSWho) take the pitch along with the Zips. What spot in the back line does DeAndre line up at? Has he any experience at the MF? Best wishes to DA. Hope Caleb schedules a trip home for him the next four years. I'll be there.

This news just in, posted at Top Drawer Soccer:DeAndre Yedlin, US U17 Team is the newest member of Caleb's recruiting class for 2011. Notice how Akron is becoming a national power with recruiting heading further West all the time. More info after I get in touch with my Seattle contacts. But -- you think he's met his fellow Sounder, #11? No doubt.
