I've noticed that there aren't many tickets left for the Can't State game Saturday. Are those who always sit in the student section as AK-Rowdies good to go as long as we get there when the doors open? Also, will there be some kind of special for AK-Rowdies going to the MAC Tourney?

People have to remember that this is all new for many people. I've been sitting in the student section for 5 years now, and it used to be 10 kids...noone wanted to sit there. Anyone who, like me, has been there the last few years can see the huge strides we've taken as fans. Personally, I wonder if it's TOO planned. A simple defense chant and a few other simple ones are all you need unless there's a special circumstance. A few other thoughts...1) What happened to the gold shirts?2) When there were a few really hot OU girls (The one in the jean skirt was niiiice haha), why was it the ugly one who insisted on shaking her ass towards us? Haha3) Please let's not do the "Hey, you suck!" to Rock N Roll Part 2...I'm begging all of you...It's lame, and besides...Can't does it...do we really wanna be like them?4) Even though the cheer sheets werent used there were a few good ideas on there. I wasn't a fan of the Gracie one however...can't we leave dude's family out of it? lol5) Couldn't we find a company that didn't name their product the "Bald Skinhead Wig"? 6) What's this north vs. south crap? I sit on both sides randomly...whatever ticket they give me. There's nothing worse than people who try to act like they are better fans than everyone else.

FTR,We can just agree to disagree here...I'm just sick and tired of everyone trying to act like it's some horrible thing to root for both sqauds. And when someone questions people's loyalty and refers to them as traitors if they cheer for OSU and UA, I do take that personally...that's just me

What a joke of a poll. Even the way you worded it is stupid. First of all, they are the Buckeyes...quit using Jim Rome's catch phrases and come up with your own material. Second of all, being an Ohio State fan has no effect on how "loyal" of a UA fan you are. The two teams are in different conferences and hardly ever play each other. Why can't someone who goes to UA also cheer for OSU (as long as they cheer for the Zips on the rare occasion the two actually do play). Most people are OSU fans because they grew up cheering for OSU. I didn't grow up in Akron...what reason would I have had to be a Zips fan until I decided to go to school at UA? OSU ends up reprenting the state because 1) They're damn good, 2) They don't share a conference with any other ohio teams, 3) They have more tradition than any other school in Ohio. You can dislike OSU if you want, but please don't try telling me or anyone else that I'm not a loyal Zips fan if I cheer for the Buckeyes as well.

Let's say Akron and Can't both win their next games and Akron beats Can't in the finale...any idea what happens? Co-Conference champs? Tie-break? Any idea on how seeding would go?

Well, I'm guessing a lot of us aren't "long time Zips fans"...unless there are some people who went the Van Wilder route for college. What is there to get? That they include one non-MAC mascot of a team that 75% of Zips fans also love? That Ohio State never even plays Akron? That Ohio State would demolish us if we ever did play? I'm not ripping the cartoon...I absolutely love it and think it's one of the most creative and well done things they've ever done...I just think including the mascot of a team that has nothing to do with us (except sharing the state) that is also loved by most fans is pointless...but hey, I'm not a long time fan...I wouldnt understand I guess...

Seems as if every time Akron gets a game that would be a big win they don't take advantage...

I must say respectfully that I think the point was kind of missed...it wasn't to give attention to the other programs and take it away from basketball, it was to send a message to Can't State players and fans that there was a changing of the guard taking place in MAC athletics, that it's happened in other sports already, and that it would happen that night in basketball as well. Oh well...just an idea. I think everyone does appreciate the crew on game days...the promotions, gameday atmosphere, and overall presentation of the game are ten times better this year. I also LOVE the Zippy cartoon (Except for Brutus the Buckeye being included...that part doesn't make sense). Great job overall on game day by the crew though...

I agree with a lot of what you say. However, a few disagreements. I don't grade Rob preston as highly as others do. He's a nice role player, but if our hopes rely on him, I don't like our chances. He KILLED us at Can't, drawing 4 fouls that converted into 3 point plays/opportunities. He's a big man that doesn't play very big...a good role player, but not even close to the best or most important on the team IMO. I just dont think he's that good...I agree on Travis...he should be doing FAR more in this league. I agree that the MAC is average this year, but disagree that Can't State is the best. Can't State’s current ballclub is a very good one, but less impressive to me than Akron. Yes, they've had some very nice wins (like last night), but this is also the same team that has lost to Delaware State (13-11, 132 RPI) at home and St. Mary’s (10-11, 143 RPI) on the road. It’s the same team that dropped games to middle-of-the-pack MAC teams Bowling Green and Toledo. It’s the same squad that only holds a 100 RPI, despite their 20 wins. Akron, with a similar record, has lost only to tough teams, and are undefeated at home. If Can't State beats Akron at the JAR I'll agree with you, otherwise I disagree wholeheartedly.

I honestly think the turnout this year has been great, especially considering what it used to be. They used to have to beg people to just sit in the student sections...now it is pretty full for most games. The only two I can think of that disappointed me were Buffalo and BG, and BG was on Valentines Day...like it or not that's going to hurt attendance. Overall, I couldnt be happier. As for the meeting, I hope you guys setting up this change or whatever send out an email discussing what's going on. I, like many others who plan to go Saturday and sit in the student section, can't make it at Friday at 6. I don't now what being planned, but if it is truly something that has the potential to be really cool, I'd have Matt send an email out to the AK-Rowdies mailing list...otherwise, about half of the people will know and whatever is planned will fail miserably...just a suggestion

Sorry for the mistake, didnt read closely. I'm going to be totally honest with you. I think the chances of getting a large enough group together to make the meeting worthwhile on a Friday evening at 6 PM are slim to none, especially if people really have no idea why they are going. I'm not trying to be a prick...so please don't think that...I'm just saying, I don't see it happening. A better bet may be to say 2 PM at the JAR or something...just my two cents.

So this secret meeting is going to be midway through the 2nd half? (Gametime is at 4 PM). Personally I think a de-fense (not the corny z-fense) chant alternating with the jumping up and down and making general loud noise would work. Also, we need to work on the free throw stuff. I'm telling you...the two most effective things to do:1) When a player is at the line, everyone yells dribble each time they dribble, they scream shooooot when they go to shoot...it works!2) Sway back and forth...the front row starts right then left and so on...the next row up does the opposite, and so on....it creates an amazing effect and messes with the players balance.

That sucks about the lights, but it'd still be sweet to do with the lights on!

Funny, you claim we're looking past Miami, then state that you'll be cutting the nets down here after the final game...wouldnt that mean YOU are looking past Miami as a Can't fan?Idiot...

Have they made any announcements to the students about claiming tickets? If not, they should soon...

Thanks for the response guys. Chris, since you work at the JAR, do you think there's any way to kill the lights and have some kind of lighting or spotlight? Like I said before, if the people in charge of everything want to do this and can provide video/audio/pictures to me, we can edit all of the video and put it all together....my buddy does independant work and has the best video editing programs out there, so we could get it done.Any other thoughts?

I have been thinking about this for awhile. Is there any way we could get a special player introduction for the Akron-Can't State season finale? I think a big key to that game will be the 6th man....a wild, crazy, noisy Zips crowd being a factor like never before. Why not do something special? Here's what I'm thinking...1. Play the usual Undertaker music for Can't's introductions. I like that part a lot.2. When the intros are done, wait a few seconds…let the crowd kind of buzz a little. 3. Begin a pre-made video montage. Find video clips (with audio) and or pictures from the Zips athletic season. I’d want videos/photos from soccer season, track season, football season…everything from the re-birth of Akron Zips athletics. Maybe even throw a bit of the Chris Berman clip in there.The video clip from the hail mary at the MAC Title game, with audio, is a must. 4. After the clips from the other sports, show clips from the basketball season…your basic highlight reel. If possible, include some audio from Steve French or from the ONN commentators. 5. Behind these video clips and pictures should be some good music…I personally love the music from Remember the Titans, “Titans Scoreâ€. 6. Fade out…7. Simultaneously, show the Fearsome Zippy logo on the big screen and begin the normal Sirius theme, and if possible, kill the lights. I’m not sure if we have some kind of spotlight, but it was be a great effect. Does this seem like a lot? Yes, it does. But tell me it wouldn’t be effective in pumping the players and crowd up. Tell me it wouldn’t be a reminder to Can't State fans and players that things have changed in the Mid American Conference athletic world. If things shake out how most predict they will, the MAC Regular Season title will be on the line for at least one of these two teams on March 4th, probably both. It will be the biggest regular season game held in the JAR in years. Let’s give these players who have worked their asses off an appreciation of their work with the least we can do…a big time introduction to the biggest game of the year.UAM, or anyone else who might be able to set this up…me and my buddy have access to video editing equipment and would be willing to do this for free if someone would provide us with the audio/video/pictures that we would need. I’m assuming it’s all being saved somewhere. Let me know, and for everyone else, what do you think? Like the idea? Ways to make it better?

Whoa there...why the name calling? I used that term as a joke buddy...settle down. I actually do know quite a bit...how would you know anyways? That's always one of my favorites...the guy who assumes he knows a person's knowledge based on one post on an Internet mesage board. If he can get his shot off and plays good defense, why does he not play over Mraz or Rybak? Neither of them have the shot that he does (assuming he can indeed get open, as you say). There's a reason Goddard only plays garbage time folks...
