  1. There's a difference between saying:1) The University of Akron and2) THE University of Akron#1 is appropriate, #2 is a ripoff of Ohio State...
  2. I never ever hear Ohio. Mostly OU, sometimes Ohio University...never Ohio though.
  3. Ohio U. - or OU?
  4. I have never really seen the big deal. I don't believe that people really look at Akron any differently between Akron U. and the University of Akron, although I do say The University of Akron. But please God tell me that nobody actually emphasizes the "The" in The University of Akron. For all the hatred that is spewed here towards Ohio State, it'd be pretty lame and hypocritical to straight up copy them.
  5. 1. It's really not that big of a deal.2. For all of the OSU haters in here, I'm not sure why they'd want to copy and emphasize the "The" before the name.
  6. Soooo where do all of the students go? Many used to sit in the end zone before...
  7. Some people who go to Akron root for OSU as well as a 2nd fav team.If the two meet, they cheer for Akron...otherwise, they cheer for OSU.It is no big deal. What's so hard to understand???
  8. I'm in...add a pic for the group :-)
  9. The idea of the AK-Rowdies was a great one. With that said (and no offense here), but nothing that we did was anything that couldn't be done by anyone else.
  10. A lot of you guys are talking about sellouts at the Rubber Bowl...do you really think so? When was the last sellout at the RB?

  12. I thought it'd be both interesting and fun for everyone to put their game by game predictions for the upcoming season in one place. It'll give us an idea about how everyone feels going into the year, and will be fun to look at at the end of the year when all is said and done The schedule:9-2-06 - @ Penn State 9-9-06 - @ N.C. 16. Does anyone have a video clip of the pass from Getsy to Hixon on their computer? If so, I'd love to get ahold of it!
  17. Jimmy Conyers as 3rd string shooting guard? He'll start at the 3...
  18. The band needs ENERGY....high steps, solid horn swings, up-tempo, fun songs. I love watching good marching bands, but usually ignore Akron's halftime shows. MORE ENERGY...
  19. I really hope this is a false rumor...never thought that highly of Joyce
  20. Care to back that up?
  21. Her article was taken, exactly as she wrote it, and published in the paper. The paper listed the author as "Staff report". She is not on the staff of the Buchtellite. Therefore, the staff is taking credit for a piece of writing that a non-staff member wrote. That is plagiarism...I don't know why anyone would struggle to see that...
  22. Freedom of speech and freedom of press don't protect the paper from plagiarism.
  23. I disagree wholeheartedly. I totally side with the writer. When the article was originally turned in, the editors should have told the writer that they didn't want her mentioned herself in the article and either a) asked her to take that part out or, taken it out themselves. If she agreed, this wouldn't even be an issue. If she disagreed, they should have simply pulled it from the paper. You can't put an article in the paper and claim it was written by someone else, that is plagiarism. Now, I don't think the editors meant to "steal" the story...I just think they saw the problem and instead of taking the necessary steps in fixing the problem correctly, took the easy and lazy way out.
  24. I think you're missing the argument of many. We aren't saying that we cheer for OSU and not Akron. Akron is my #1 team, I go to every game possible, and will always cheer for them against anyone. And I, like many, also love OSU. Akron #1, OSU #2
  25. Explain this to me...why are you a frontrunner if you are a Buckeyes fan? Because you didn't go to school there. OSU represents its students, alumni, faculty, and maybe on a reach, the parents of students, but that is it. The problem is everyone thinks that OSU represents the state of Ohio because they are called Ohio State University. That logic only applys to pro sports (rooting for the team in your area). Using that logic, Ohio U should also be considered Ohio's team. OSU has a monopoly over the average Joe fan (most of who didn't go to college at all) base because they (and Cincinnati, although no one looks at them that way) are the only BCS schools in the state. Try living in California or Florida where there are a lot of choices to choose from. Example: My father graduated from USC, but I doubt he would use the Ohio logic that says you should be a Cal fan because you live in California. Put it in that context and you can see just how ridiculous your argument is. Root for your school and be proud, but don't be concerned about someone elses school. I hate that school down south. About the only time I root for them is when they play Michigan, but I really don't care who wins that game either. We're getting silly now. I grew up in northeast Ohio and became a fan of college football as a young child. Sooo watching enoguh of it, I'm not going to find a favorite team? Gimme a break. Possibly the worst part of your response when you say OSU gets the average Joe who, according to you, is uneducated beyond high school. I'll try to make this clear for some of your OSU haters to understand. When people grow up in areas of Ohio that aren't close to any particular college, OSU usually becomes the default. Why? Let's see:- The are the biggest athletic program in Ohio. Whether you want to admit it or not, in college sports they DO represent Ohio the most nationally. - They by far have the most tradition of any of the Ohio schools in athletics. Ohio State was playing for and winning National Titles before Akron even had a D1 football program. That makes a difference folks, because being a fan of a team gets passed down through families.- They win, and win big. For younger kids who don't attend colleges but love colege football, they are an easy choice to become their favorite team.I'm sorry, but growing up I had no allegiance to Akron. I didn't grow up near Akron (or any other Ohio schools really). I did, however, love college football. My parents were both Buckeyes fans, so it all seemed natural to me to become one as well. I've followed them ever since, even during the rough years of Bellisari lol. By no means I'm a frontrunner. As for the predictions of OSU sucking next year...I think I'm going to save that and see what you guys say at the end of the college football season. If you really think OSU is losing 5 games next year, you're an idiot or letting your OSU hatrad/jealousy/envy get farrr too much in the way of your predictions.
