Agreed. Take the first domestic bowl offered and avoid getting shutout (being #57 and worst yet allowing Marshall to be #56) if Hawaii wins late next Saturday/early Sunday. It seems like there will be other options.

It's just my opinion and beggers cant be choosers but the Hawaii Bowl is the worst draw the Zips could get from a UA fans vantage point. It will be great for the players but this is a tough one for us fans. Any bowl but Hawaii and probably beautiful Boise (MPC Computers), everything else was on the table for me to make a couple day trip. - If I'm going to Hawaii, I'm going for atleast 1 week, probably two. Pretty tough quick trip to just see game. - Christmas Eve TV game - There goes any Zips bowl parties with friends. - Christmas Eve TV game II - Trying to watch a game with everything XMas going on. On the positive side -- for the Zips players and the program -- a great trip, warm weather, probably the only TV game that night and ESPN rather then ESPN II. Not a bad deal. Opinions aside, any bowl game is great for the program so here's hoping everything falls into place.

Does it come down to the following with the Syracuse win ? Hawaii beating Northwestern and then losing to Michigan State. Eliminating both Hawaii and Northwestern.

Fox Bowl Predictions From what I have seen FOx Sports has the most likely scenerio. For this to happen, the Zips will beat out Marshall for the last spot in the Silicon Bowl which the MAC so cleverly worked out a deal to lock out conference dead beat Marshall -- for all of this to happen some key games are listed below -- thanks to BZ. Hawaii is 5-5 with 5 Div. 1-A wins -- home games with Northwestern (6-5) and Michigan State (5-6) left. ----- Northwestern must win Southern Mississippi 5-4 with 5 Div. 1-A wins at Alabama Birmingham (7-3) and at California (9-1). ----- Southern Miss must lose both Syracuse 5-5 with 5 Div. 1-A wins at Boston College (8-2) left. ------ BC must win with Freshman QB starting 1st game if the year ?!!??!? I'm not sure that is all but these seem to be the key games - All Zips needed wins are favorites !!!!!!! Marshall seems to be the biggest threat of taking our spot if all goes well in these games.

I've heard Boise, Idaho is nice in December

How bad does the Middle Tenn State loss hurt now ? Not complaining but 7-4 and not letting that one slip away and we might be bowling !! Who knew ? Who would've ever guessed ? ESPN potential bowl matchups - MPC Computers -- Akron vs UTEP - Independence -- Akron vs Iowa State Marshall seems to have the inside track if it comes down direclty against them for a spot from the 4 ESPN projections. F-Marshall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPN Bowl Predictions

Does anyone know if the ticket vouchers (free) can be exchanged at the bowl ticket gates or did you have to go the university ticket office prior to Friday and exchange ? I'm hoping they are taking them at the bowl, I have a feeling all of the people that I gave them to are expecting to walk right up to the ticket gate and exchange. Any information would be appreciated so I can get things straightened away for these friends and let them know. I'll check first thing in the morning with UA but was hoping to get a headstart if info was out here. The free vouchers somewhat imply that they should be redeemed prior to gameday at the U ticket offices. It would be a simple mistake for people to just show up at the bowl with the vouchers as the instructions are alittle confusing. I would hope the U would be happy to let potential new fans in with no hassles but best to check.

Great Event !! I hope that this becomes a permanent part of the program. The marketing group did a first class job in organizing and creating a fun environment for everyone. One of these times, fans are actually going to show up and repay you for your efforts. Please keep working at it, it will happen. The first thing we noticed was a totally different atmosphere with the team. Players were actually smiling and having fun . This team seems very confident and undoubtedly will be playing a different type of ball from the Hip days. A team with a personality It's been a long time. Difficult to predict until they start playing some of those cupcakes early but there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic. We might just sneak up on a few teams. Quite a few new faces on the team. A number of them look to have game, I'm not sure who some are -- not listed on the roster -- but it wouldn't surprise me if someone unknown sees some playing time during the year. Short Highlights - Everyone's in great shape -- Especially Wood, Futch and Travis. - Peterson looks fully recovered from last year and in shape. - If Joyce shoots the 3 like that alll year, look out. - Bubba can shoot and is taller then I expected. Kids got some moves too -- He's no Faulkner -- may be more then just the shooter everyone thinks he is. And he's thinner then David, Alot thinner. - Milum can jump = Dunk over Wood in the SD contest was incredible - Middleton needs to work on his shot but handles the ball nicely. - Unknown guard can also knock down the 3's -- Anyone catch this guys name ? Not Dials but the other guard -- I'd be surprised if he didnt see the court. Most refreshing of all though, was the new attitude and style that Dambrot has brought in. It could be a lot of fun in JAR sooner then we think.

There are a ton of vouchers out there for free tickets. I think every elementary kid in the Akron/Summit county area got one at school. There is no catch other then it is first come, first serve basis in case the bowl sells out. I rounded up some from the neighborhood to give out to friends at work definately going to the game. Hats off to the marketing group for giving it their best shot to fill up the bowl. I can't see how it doesn't come close after all of their efforts and these vouchers floating around. Let's hope football fans in Akron show some appreciation. F Marshall

How can the Beacon print "Your Views" that are completely based on misinfomation ? I understand people being unhappy with their experiance at the Rubber Bowl and they are certainly allowed to express themselves by writing their opinion. BUT, shouldn't someone at the Beacon be responsible and accountable for the content ? The Beacon printed 2 today -- Ouch Ouch -- Thanks Beacon for helping with the attendence cause. First off, I don't believe general tickets at $12 are out of line with other MAC schools ( 1) Do a little planning and use your GE Card to get $3 off if you are strapped. 2) Wait by the gate, People are usually giving tickets away !!!!). Second, Does anyone believe that a poor old 80 year old alumni was body searched at the gate and ordered to return to his car miles away to take back a bag of M&M's and A bottled water Last week, I took in 3 juice boxes, a coke, crackers, and skittles as snacks for my son and I -- No problem -- I was not padded down and interrogated by security as the "View" contends. Finally, Concessions overpriced I know it's all relative but PLEASE go to an Aeros, Indians or Browns game and get out a little. I bought Hot dogs and Drinks and had no complaints with the bill. Very reasonable -- The U's not getting rich off of concessions !! I would have hoped that the Beacon would atleast print a factual response after the "View". NOTHING. Thanks but no thanks for this type of support. Did you actually think these "Views" were credible enought o print and would help the Community and University To John Hickman and Tracey Bognar ---

Right now, I'd be happy with wins over Can't State and Buffalo. I would think that with home field pts, Can't State will be favored on Thursday -- Can't State beat the spread tonight, MTSU lost to Florida Atlantic. Zips bad. MAC championship ZR -- Nothing personal. Losing sucks and makes for a bad mood but right now we dont look good at all - Talent levels at a number of positions are questionable and early grades on the new coaching staff don't look good. What was up with the game plan today ????? The worst !!!!!!!!! Let see, if we put our QB in 2nd or 3rd down and long situations all day, WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT --> Running for your life and 73 yds Passing -- Hey, if you know it's coming, defensing it isn't that tough. Unimaginative, Horrible, Conservative game plan/play calling. There also seems to be a lot of confusion and indecisiveness at crucial times/plays -- At the end of the MTSU game, A number of times today on big 3rd/4th downs. I hoped for better but JD may need time to learn on the job and this year school is in.
-
Middle Tennessee State thought they were looking at a decent year after beating Akron on the road -- That is untill that powerhouse Florida Atlantic came into town this weekend. If I were a UVA fan, I take nothing important away from this game. It's a W and I wait for a real division 1 team to show up before putting out any measuring sticks. I'm with the Guest Racer though, I hope UVA is that good because I can't believe we are this bad. There are so many bad things about this Akron team. The worst may be coming this Thursday (Obviously -- Red = Can't State). If Can't State takes the chair to us, the season's going to unravel very quickly. JD -- Dont let this happen, please save me from another long year of bashing from Can't State friends. I'm already counting the days till basketball season -- the football is dreadfull.

Zips to Get Pitt Transfer QB?
Z-Pouch replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
From a radio talk show in Pittsburgh, Getsy has officially submitted for his release to insure his eligibility for next year. Rumored (?) to be heading to Akron to follow Brookhart. If he is on his way, it's very difficult to imagine being a backup. Let's see backup at Akron Vs Backup at Pitt ????? I wouldn't expect anything official until after Sat. to avoid any game prep disruptions. Only reporting what I heard, no insight whatsoever. I also believe he will have 3 years left and can play next year. -
I think a lot of people would say that Jason Taylor is one of the premier defensive players in the league. Dwight Smith has made an impact for TB. Must be something wrong in the translation of Zip Dude's email or else he is living in a cave somewhere.
-
I read that this morning and was also pretty shocked  but he is the beat writer for Can't State and maybe the success in basketball has gone to his head. I have a hard time believing it is even a possiblity. But until we see what JD brings to the table, who knows ? All signs are good and Saturday is just around the corner

For what it is worth --- I was talking to a student who works in the athletic department by way of a chance meeting at a local store -- the old part time college job. He saw my hat and started talking Zips and the PSU opener -- he is going, I also will be there. But to the point, he was not that upbeat about their chances for a victory or keeping the game close. Maybe my optimism threw him off but he had several insightfull comments thru working in the department and being around the team. 1) Alot of concern over the WR's outside of Hixon 2) Starting RB -- Said should be Biggs, he has been very impressive but concerned 3) From 1 and 2 -- General offensive concerns ? 4) Secondary -- not good. as in not good period. May mean nothing but seemed to have some credibilty and may be a dose of some reality that none of us want to hear. It does seem to confirm some of the areas that are lacking and may not be progressing as quickly as everyone hopes. The other thing -- State College is not that far away and is a great place to see a game. We need to sell some more PSU tickets and get some fans out to this game. Sales are light ?? You will not regret the money spent, it is a great college game day experiance. And just maybe the Zips can give them a game making even better.
-
Classic I will say though that most of the PSU fans that we met last time around in HV were great and showed a lot of respect. I wouldn't say the same for Joe Pa who was relentless on the score well after the game was decided.

Another jumping on the Frye Bandwagon Who knows but my Charlie Frye autogaphed Zips poster schedule from Rockin on the River in CFalls may be a treasure !?!?!?!?!??! Hats off to the Zips marketing team and their efforts -- Great idea having the players down at the river and the giveaways. Double

This is one of the worst threads I've seen on the new board. There are no credible sources, so much speculation, and just plain old . Reminds me of the BS on the old board. It's only purpose is it provides a good laugh and alittle entertainment during slow times in the summer. None of it can be taken seriously BUT REALLY, WHO CARE's ??? Fact is -- Majority of Zip fans seem to agree that the HC changes in football and basketball were for the better and are excited about moving forward. The old HC's had their chances and plenty of time to make significant progress with the programs. While each may have made progress (to mediocrity), I'm happy to see that Mediocrity doesnt cut it here anymore. It is absurd to not expect more. I dont know MT personally, I dont have inside information, but from what I have seen with MT - I'm impressed. He has moved the athletics program and facilities a long way. The marketing while still under funded puts out alot of good material. I have seen after most basketball games that he makes sure to greet players/coaches leaving the court in the tunnel -- hey, I guess it's not the locker room but seems to serve the same purpose. As for knocking the new board, oldzip --- -- shame on you for not appreciating the efforts of many to give Zips fans a place to talk and promote our athletics. This board is done in a first class manner and contributes plenty of good usefull information (and sometimes entertaining useless threads like yours). I've shown this site to many and many our impressed. As for membership and post numbers, as the number of wins grow, so will they. I agree with others -- Please go root for Can't and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. The Zips have moved out of the old school.

I find it funny that he has been reinstated but hasn't been sentenced yet. If he gets jail time, does he get a work release for Saturdays ? Granted, for some reason it looks like Weed Bags is getting a little more then a slap on the wrist and will end up sentenced with community service but you never know. It looks really bad that Can't State couldnt atleast wait for the final outcome before making a decision. What a disgrace. Even OSU has indefinately suspended and kicked off players when dealing with serious charges. As for the intern coach, I did see where he said Felony= OUT. But I guess he thought it over after spring practices and decided that a 1-10 season might be worth lowering the bar to an all time low. I couldn't ask for better material when dealing with their fans.
-
Of course, Pluto has floated Gary Waters out there on the OSU job as "the squeaky clean guy" to raise the program from the ashes. I'd link the story but F-Ohio.com and their passwords.

FYI Huggins Story

Does Trey have inside information on the future of BHip's bashetball career ? A. Wooster B. John Carroll C. Slippery Rock D. none of the above It will be nice to know that I own an official Throwback Zips jersey
-
OSU came out of the Clarett situation just fine. Can they find a scapegoat here that keeps the program off of probation ? My bet -- Yes. It may not be right but it is the way of the Majors. There is just too much money involved for anything more then a wristslap to OSU and finding a couple of scapegoats to pin it all on. Think about it, Why would the University even question how a foriegn player travel to the States, traveled back home, communicated with their parents overseas, paid for additional expenses living, etc.......... Hear no evil, See no evil, Equal No Evil.

Cmon now, that's just a friends car that he is borrowing while his is in the shop. Put you head back in the sand With that smooth jumper and ability to D up, I'm surprised he couldn't borrow a little better. If the Board Hall of Fame Posts ever gets started, the Captain's "BHip's car" has my vote. The BHip stuff never gets old. I cant wait to break out my authentic BHip jersey and school the captain in the JAR game.
