  1. I guess I just dont agree with your assessment of Bubba and Joyce. Bubba took one questionable three on a fast break - Of course, that's where he has been most effective. All the others were open looks, he is a shooter and lately he's been off. Shooters should shoot their way threw slumps. He will come around and has a big furture at Akron. Joyce had foul trouble - I think Buffalo actually got seperation in the game when he landed his 4th. Anyway, the guy always quietly goes about his business and is a very good field general without getting many accolades. Middelton had a great game, came to play and looks as though he may be out of his long shooting slump. Anyone else notice the hustle under the boards by the Zips - Guards, Forwards and anybody was fighting hard underneath -- Thats what it going to take for us in the Tourney. Gotta rebound. One last thing, I think this really hurts for the NIT without a real good showing in the Tourney. Buffalo - 6k of fans, excitment building -- really made a nice statement to the NIT selection committee should they not win the MAC tourney.
  2. Yeah, you'd rather bash the players. They gave it their all in a very difficult environment - 6k of nothing but blue. They put up the shots when they had their looks and tonight they didn't fall. And all you come to the table with is crap about the players. I love the way this team play -- pull the trigger if your open, push the ball up the court, make plays rather then wait for the "right time" - It's KD style - obviously, you are not on board. Maybe you should atay home on Monday and watch the game again on TV.
  3. I think that's what we are saying about this game....... I would hardly compare this game to the MSU/Hawaii game and I dont think any of the posts above make such a claim. Don't you think your post is a little abrasive and quick to the trigger ? Fact is, a lot of calls in sports are subjective, to indicate that whether you come out on top of those calls or not does not effect the flow of the game is completely ignorant. It might have something to do with why HOME teams win the majority of games - close calls do make a difference and the way they fall. Big Zip makes a good insightfull post here and you rip on him. Thats wrong Relax man, I think Big Zip was just making a general point, noone here blames the refs for a 10+ point loss. But dont be ignorant that momemtum swings come off of subjective calls much like 3 pointers or turnovers.
  4. Joyce charging call was probably the right one but what a huge swing as they go down and hit a three. A 6 point swing ? From in the game to trying to survive on a subjective call. Tough one.
  5. It's funny but the refs can call a pretty consistent game and then in a 2-3 minute span make some calls that totally swing the game and momentum-- after that, it's all an uphill battle. This game just came down to some woefull shooting on the Zips part -- I don't think the Buffalo D was that tight. We just didn't fire well on some wide open looks and easy shots under the hoop. Too bad. A nice opportunity got away. Go Zips
  6. Woulda, coulda (I dont know about shouda) -- but I meant Co-Champs. The #1 seed woulda, coulda depended on OU/Can't game. Comes down to making your shots -- we missed a lot tonight and I'm not sure the Buffalo D was the reason. On to Monday.
  7. Win the Half and WE ARE MAC EAST CHAMPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. At half. Marshall 29 Miami 22
  9. It's early (almost half) but Marshall up 7 on Miami. The Herd is at home -- WHO KNOWS ???? Rooting for Marshall
  10. Have to disagree a bit on the importance of the game today - by no means is it a tourney game, lose and it's over - but it is a huge game with regards to postseason positioning. Yeah, the NCAA's is out there but that will take some work in the MAC tourney to get the automatic bid or higher on the bubble (a win today, we are very high on the bubble, but probably not high enough as the selection staff goes for bigger conferences and throws out the new RPI system as flawed - the MAC touney championship game is probably Akron's only way to get the big dance invite). The game today goes a long way though setting us up for the NIT - a nice step for the program. A victory today and we would have a sweep of the season series versus both Ohio and Buffalo (probably the top contenders for the 2 maybe 3 NIT spots the MAC is due to get). This game alone far from guarantees us any post season games but it does legitimately put us as the solid #2 in the MAC nationally. From there, a good MAC tourney showing and who knows........ Go Zips.
  11. My favorite If Marshall beats Miami Ohio beats Can't Akron beats Buffalo Toledo beats EMU Ball St. beats WMU BGSU beats CMU 1) Akron 12-6 (3-1 vs. Miami & Ohio) 2) Toledo 11-7 (2-1 vs. WMU & BGSU, 1-0 vs. WMU) 3) Miami 12-6 (2-2 vs. Akron & Ohio) 4) Ohio 12-6 (1-3 vs. Miami & Akron) 5) WMU 11-7 (2-1 vs. Toledo & BGSU, 0-1 vs. Toledo, 2-0 vs. BGSU) 6) BGSU 11-7 (1-3 vs. WMU & Toledo, 0-2 vs. WMU) 7) Buffalo 10-8 (2-1 vs. Can't & Ball St.) 8) Ball St. 10-8 (1-1 vs. Buffalo & Can't) 9) Can't 10-8 (1-2 vs. Buffalo & Ball St.)
  12. --- Courtesy of another board and Ohio fan who has a littel extra time on his hands -- Every possible combination -- WOW --------------------------------------------- Again, because I'm a huge dork, I computed the most likely scenarios (to the best of my understanding of the tiebreakers...). These all assume that BGSU beats CMU at home, and Toledo beats EMU at home. An upset in either game would throw this all out the window. If BGSU & Toledo both win, these are the 16 remaining possibilities. If Miami beats Marshall Can't beats Ohio Buffalo beats Akron Toledo beats EMU Ball St. beats WMU BGSU beats CMU 1) Miami 13-5 2) Toledo 11-7 (2-1 vs. WMU & BGSU, 1-0 vs. WMU) 3) WMU 11-7 (5-2 vs. 13. Buffalo game's importance continues to grow. Not only does it secure the #3 seed but coupled with an Ohio loss at Can't, we would really position ourselves nicely for the NCAA if they decide to two. Still a long way to go but sure is nice to be talking about "what-ifs"
  14. Agreed. Romeo looks a little tired and has lost some spring. Hopefully he gets his energy levels back as more is on the line Saturday and at tourney time. I think he will be there as he seems to have risen to the occasion and draws energy for big games in the past. Nonetheless, a big win Saturday and some rest for Thursday/Tourney would be really good for this team. I have flopped my opinion here as Ipreviously thought a tourney vistory in the 1st round would be good for the program and momentum. Rest and preparation would be better. Another poster mentioned that teams may be playing Rome different under the glass and focusing on him limiting RBs. I think this is true, no more flying under the radar. If so, that leaves the opportunity for someone to step it up. Futch ? The time is now (does anyone know a hypnotist ? Futch.....you are a rebounding machine.......rebounding machine.......no more fouling......you will play 25 minutes a game......get 7-10 rebounds...using two hands to secure the ball.....using your body for position.....staying in the paint.......you are a rebounding machine......) Good, I think that will work. During this rebounding drought, Futch has had alot of foul trouble and mins limited, so there's some hope (plus he's a rebounding machine now). I also think Mcfadden, Peterson. and Prestons activity levels will increase going forward and help in the rebounding area. After all, it's win or wait till next year time. While I think we are all hungry for more now, it's difficult not to just smile for here on out, no matter where we end up - 18 wins, the programs in the right direction

  17. These new RPI ratings are just not making any sense to me - We are still up on Can't and then you have Miami, losers of two in a row, maintaining their position. My guess -- the NCAA selection squad throws these out very fast.
  18. Zipper I can tell you for a FACT that antizip and his crowd are nervous about what the Zips are becoming. It is coming, they know it, and a last hooray is all they've got. I smile when I see the posts because it is an indicator of how far we've come already. We are on the radar. Remember the days, when Can't fans wouldn't even have worried about a hip led team. All of this attention is quite a sign. I think the fact is they know we are coming, we are coming quick, and they have borrowed time right now. We gave them the game on Saturday - They can have it. I wouldn't trade places right now in the big picture.
  19. This record and losing Jeremiah after 10 games. How far we've come in a short time.
  20. Amen Brother. You'd better believe this team wants another shot at them on a neutral court.
  21. KZ We'll all be there -- we always are. It's the fans we've regained this season that I wonder about coming Wednesday - Marshall is not the most attractive game and we are not graduating many (senior night). Could be a tough draw. Figures Miami would lose as most predicted @BG. Couda, wouda, shouda.......... Geezz Captain, tough plane ride or too many . Hey, you didn't have to watch our team lose a 4 point lead in a minute thirty, a prayer of a three rain on our parade, no one wanting to take a shot and be a hero. another post game beer hounding by the mailman and giddy flusher fans. So go suck down another Warstainer............... I like the Jose Davis analogy though....tough to beat a team 3 times in one season (Lets not talk about Ohio  ) Who's our Jose Davis ? I bet I know everyone's answer around here...... Speaking of which WE US TEAM NG Awesome
  22. Unfortunately no one wanted to step up and be the man. A number of guys had looks and decided to pass and work for a better shot. KD beens pretty good off of timeouts - this is one he'd probably like to forget but there were some shots in the set -- nobody took them. I'd say we showed our youth on the road here. Anyone takes it to the rack and it's a foul.
  23. Big Zip - No bashing here. This one got away on the road - there is no shame in that and no reasons to be overly concerned. Yes, this board is optimistic about the Zips but I have visited a number of the other teams sites and a lot of people are saying good things about the Zips - Not many are looking forward to playing us. Interesting sidenote on the game last night, like you, I'm concerend that we have no BIG guys coming in and Wood is a wildcard on his recovery but the leading rebounder for Can't was a generously listed 6'5 swing man with 10. We also got only 10 minutes out of Futch with foul problems. Futch is the only wide body we really have. You are correct. 68-64, we fell apart defensively/offensively on the road. Edwin's three pointer was pretty wide open but I'm not sure it was a good shot (it ended up being a great one ) but I don't think anyone thought they would trigger so fast down by two with the ball. There was no offensive set, the guy just launched one from 3 feet beyond the arch - It went in Great shot. Down by one, we showed our youth and it was over. Tough Loss. KD said in the post game that this is the type of game that may lead to a let down against Marshall and it's up to the coaches to make sure it doesn't happen - We need Wednesday bad. Sat @Buffalo, Senior nite for 5 guys who turned that program around, big crowd, doesn't sound like alot of fun for the Zips.
  24. No one's banking the whole season on one kid. But for you to deny he would have made a difference in a VERY close game is delusional on your part. You are showing your ignorance. Who do you think recruited this year's freshmen and sophs (and juco senior Collins)? Dambrot! If you don't believe it, just ask the players. I'm almost positive Nick Dials came to Akron because of Hip....Hip leaving....
  25. Captain, you idiot............... Bubba scores 5, lose by 5.....Bet the house, lost the house, moving out, THANKS Not to rub it in any further but you missed a good one. A lot of loud Akron fans in the upper deck -- a good game and a great time. Had the Zips held on at the end, it may have matched the J Ball towel waving party. Bubba got his shots tonight, most were wide open threes, they just didn't fall. Enjoy the beers.
