  1. while I doubt it's completely random, I would agree that those rags don't spend more than a remedial amount of time trying to research picks outside of the top 50. All they probably do is look at last year's record. Then look the players that were lost and their stats. If that looks bad, they then probably take a quick glance at the projected ranks of recruits from the last two years. If that doesn't offset the losses, in their mind, then they take last years record and reduce it accordingly.Basically, they don't have anything substantial to go on.Their system works half the time and it means they don't have to spend hours and hours doing research and phone calls, because doing that for nearly 80 teams that they don't even care about means months of work. They aren't trying to do actual work. All they want is publish something.

  2. it looks like it's going to be amazing.... I sortof imagine some green, vibrant, active, communal environment with birds chirping and some people relaxing while others are bustling about, and someone is being a clown on that stage.Don't underestimate the mood something like this can set.I was reading a thread in some forums by some girls who were researching universities to attend, and they made lists and next to many of those that topped the list the word "pretty".I made a comment about whether "pretty" was the top criteria they were using, and of course there was some defensiveness, but really, it's a factor.People pick colleges for the experience, and part of that is how they imagine they will feel just walking on campus.

  3. One of the schools in my local district was vahdalized about 2 weeks ago. They broke in and spray painted the walls with slogans that made it appear that it was done by fans of our rival. This week they arrested three people and all three were students(present&former) of our district. Crazier things have happened.http://www.thesuburbanite.com/news/x147091...andals-arrested
It just seems like that sorta thing. I'm not saying it's impossible, but most people are not crazy enough to go all 'mission impossible' and ninja into rival territory and vandalize.People who walk by a spot everyday and more comfortable with the area are much more likely to try to pull something like this off. In fact, I would bet money it's someone who lives on or near campus.
  4. I think this was done by someone tied to U of A but not necessarily a AK Rowdy or whatever its called.
If it was, I will be the first not to hesitate to condemn the action. No matter who did it, whatever their motivation, one thing is for sure. They should be punished. Vandalism is property damage.... so I hope that they are caught. If you want to send a message. Get a billboard.
  5. Did you notice how both articles clearly point out that vandals were "operating under the name of"?I think it's apparent even to them that it was fraudulent. It takes a LOT of hate to try to set someone else up by defacing your own stadium. Some of these people at Can't has enormous chips on their shoulder.Message to Can't. It's not a psychological burden. Having spirited rivals and all the ribbing is supposed to be fun. If you take it that personal, you really need to get a new hobby. Politics suits you. People in politics are wayyy too serious and hate in politics is protected by the first amendment. If you're on about setting up student orgs at other schools, you need a new life.

  6. you're right.... it's the coaches job to make these decisionsthen again, it's fan's jobs too... except we don't paid to do it, we don't get fired from doing it, and when we do (often) do it, it very rarely ever seems to matter.haha...Anyway, maybe if he goes DB, they can make him a deal to throw him a bone on some situational running?

  7. :( back to Torrence...i hope this guy figures it out...remember...he was acquitted...not because he did not have sex with a TWELVE year old, but because the issue of 'consent'(even though 12 year olds can't legally give consent) came up and because as would be expected anytime you have to rly on a 12 year old things get real crazy..i deal with sex offenders in my line of work...the lack of maturity on the part of the adult is the ONLY issue here...the adult is responsible for making the decisions...if this is an indication of his abilities in that area we will be hearing from him again...hopefully his brain got rewired in a hurry...

  8. UA does not have to build dorms there. I agree it would have been nice. The plans looked great.I like the wall idea. Not to be spiteful. (well, maybe to be spiteful a little, hehe) but to make sure we don't direct flow of students toward their businesses. In fact, I would suggest that the UA includes a cafe/food court in the ground level of these dorms (the ones that can be built) to dissuade as much traffic from venturing out to exchange street for such stuff.... probably any type of food or product that the nemers sell (chinese food, coffee, whatever). Then, let the the store owners sit there and dream about the 1.5 million dollars they could have had if they had just negotiated a little bit in the first place. In fact, I suggest going back to the architects to make these changes, plus possibly adding a few floors to increase the capacity of the dorms that can be built.

  9. Bowser tweaked his knee on the first route of the day. He could have continued practice, and wanted to, but the coaches dont want to risk anything since he is a special player. He will be fine.Five picks did happen and one thing this bored has to realize is, Not every pick is a QB's fault. And it is the first day of camp. So calm down. People on this board go nuts about every little thing. Give it time.
BFH--Get the hell off this board...Screw Beanie....Go spend your time on tosu's board.
LOL is someone having a bad morning? :lol:
  10. If you talked with a Columbus State fan and asked them what they'd think if the Columbus Dispatch almost entirely ignored the Buckeyes but ran almost daily coverage of, say, the Cincinnati Bearcats, they couldn't even begin to know what they'd think because they literally couldn't imaging that bizarre scenario. Well, welcome to our reality. Disgusting to the high heavens. Though there was a nice article on the beginning of Zips' camp in yesterday's paper. I keep hoping for a revolution w/in the ABJ. This community needs it.
Well, to be fair to that metaphor, tOSU is the bigger program. However, the point still holds. Even if there is (unfortunately) a wider desire from your subscribers to read about the down state team, that only legitimizes covering THEM, and it does not legitimize over-covering them seemingly to ignore the hometown team.Back on topic, I had to laugh at my last post on this article though. It just occurred to me that writers can't win. If you take a position on an issue, people slam you for bias journalism. If you stay somewhat neutral, people slam you for not taking a stand or having a position.Still, there was something sorta weak and timid about that whole thing. I can't put my finger on it. Even if you didn't want to have a subjective opinion, there just had to be a better way not to tiptoe through the bed of tulips while trying to appear to dance.
  11. I actually thought that this article was very weak. The writer attempts to assign to the UA a risky or desperate decision, but doesn't commit to it. He impunes Devoe with wrongdoing but flàshes the acquittal around to no mas himself out of any accusation.Basically, the story couldn't be ignored, because of the local/regional nature of the issue (trial) ,and because of Devoe's level of recruitment in the past, so they felt they had to run something. Yet, the best that the writer could do is timidly walk the fence of innuendo and paints himself a drab gray that fails to make him neutral in such a vibrantly loaded issue by citing background and asking open questions about what it all says about the parties involved.fail

  12. I really think he is a better LB than running back. If he plays that position, it would help further mask our thin secondary, while if he played RB it would just crowd our depth chart even more, possibly forcing some more position changes.
from what it sounds like he probably is a bit better at linebacker, but also, don't you always want your best at each position? With his strength, speed, and agility, it's hard to not put him at RB a little just to see if he could be that guy who can just take over a game and rush for 300 yards a game at will.
4.55 speed is nothing special for a running back. That is pretty good speed for a linebacker though.UA needs more speed on defense.
citation: linkIf you are a run-oriented team that wants to pound the ball, this could be your guy. However, if a team is in need for a great linebacker and has the patience to develop one, this is the kid.
  13. It's a good thing none of you guys make decisions about how to handle the student-athletes that participate in our football program. These guys are not chess pieces. They are human beings. Occasionally some of the screw up. Have a little respect.Stop worrying so much about how they are to be "handled" and let them try to get everything out of their collegiate experience that they can.

  14. The staff needs to be strict with him, to start. Even if he is entirely innocent and a great guy, they need to be strict.
How far can you go with that?I mean, can you expect to run someone's life because you coach them in a sport?...and let me ask you this: Is he not an adult?Afterall, he wasn't convicted of anything. This is still America right?Point a guy in the right direction and give him whatever guidance and structure that is reasonable, and then treat him like a man and let him do the right thing.I know I have fuxxed up in my life... particularly in my youth... and while it was nothing on the level of what he was accused of, I screwed my own head on straight, and I'm a better man because of it. No one else can take ownership of my behavior but me.
  15. No, I am not comparing them to OSU. I was just preparing for the homer that was going to come on and say. "we nearly beat OSU" :)
I guess that's me. I'm the homer.Since I was in a bar that has scarlett and gray all over the place on saturdays, and these people weren't just a little down, they were throwing their hands up in the air and saying "What the fuck?!?!?!" at half time, and I bought some drinks just then for a few of them because I felt a bit like an arse for laughing at their plight. lol
  16. Am I gonna rant about this because we were picked last, or is this a legitimate question? Why would a league encourage pre season rankings?I mean, you can't stop the rags and sites from doing it, but why go this far in your own domain?I can understand trying to add some interest by putting perspective on expectations for various teams, but is it a good idea to peg them this way?I mean, it's one thing to say that X is expected to have a great year and Y is probably reloading this year, but it's another to sponsor a pigeon-holing of your own teams.

  17. It looks like things have slowed down, doesn't it? I was hoping for more steel to go up by now.
Yeah. I haven't been paying close attention, but I suspect they are working on more concrete collumns. Before the last batch of iron went up, then spent a few weeks putting up those concrete pillars that are between the steelwork and the lower bowl. I think they are doing more of those on the south side now.
