  1. I watched the game at the Redstone Pub in Akron. I think I was the only (vocal) Zips fan there.Believe it or not, though, all (without a single exception) of the OSU fans there were very, very cool. While they may not be ready to drink the Akron koolaid yet, I do believe there is a sleeping giant of a ZipsNation out there just waiting to be awakened. The new stadium will help tremendously, as will continued proof that there is a Div-1A football team representing our town.
  2. Fall all over yourselves? Nah.Show even a modicum of respect/class in victory? I guess that's too much to ask.
  3. I'm not sure I saw a quarterback issue in our inability to move the ball yesterday. It looked a lot more to me like an offensive line that simply could not win many battles, either individually or as a unit. If that happens, it really doesn't matter much who's playing quarterback. And unless you have Jim Brown in the backfield, you're not going to run very much, either.Let's all hope that a) the Buckeyes defense really is as terrific as it looked yesterday, and our inexperienced line develops in a positive direction every week.
  4. OSU played a horrid game? Their defense looked like the '77 Steelers yesterday. As for their offense, it looked to me like they ran into a pretty good Zips D that took an inordinately long time to wear down.Other than that minor disagreement, great post.Tough test for OSU next week against what looks like a resurgent Washington. And the Indiana team Akron sees next week is not the Indiana we were hoping we'd see when this game was scheduled.GO ZIPS!
  5. Just reviewed the game comments and post-game comments at Suckey Planet. Out of about a hundred posts, I think perhaps a total of two gave ANY credit whatsoever to Akron's defense today. And people were actually worried about offending these jerks?I wonder how many points OSU gives up when ITS offense gets three first downs in a frigging game.I HATE (well, sorta hate) Ohio State.GO ZIPS!P.S OSU's defesne today was either scary good, or our offense is scary bad.P.P.S. Our defense today played like men. Well done.
  6. Hey Buckzip,Our defense today was OUTSTANDING. I mean, Akron only gas what, THREE first downs the who frigging game? Those kids on D were MEN hung out to dry all day. The only guy to step up in their defense was our punter, of all people. (I was waiting for a block all day. Good job by the secial teamers.)As for our offense, either OSU is unbelivievably good on defense, or we are not going to score much on anybody. I think OSU might be pretty good, but not that giid. All in all, I'm always proud to be a Zips fan, but I'm even more proud today.
  7. Jpw about renaming the former section of Union/Brown street George Heisman Boulevard, and making the address of the stadium #1 Heisman Boulevard?
  8. I just heard the sound of a hammer head hitting a nail. That is precisely the point, Skip. It really isn't that I "hate" Ohio State, or any other team. It is that I "love" Akron. What burns me most is not lack of coverage in the ABJ, it is that so many people who actually LIVE in Akron, and even worse, who WENT to the University of Akron have so much disdain for their own city and school. The inferiority complex in this city is absolutely infuriating.Maybe if people actually took AND EXPRESSED a little pride in their community, this town would not have to struggle so hard to keep from going down the toilet. Here's hoping for the day when every Akron kid, from football jock to scholar, can't wait for the college expereince, in all its wonderful facets, at their hometown university.
  9. I think the Zips defense plays an exceptional game but is worn down after too many three-and-outs by our still inexperienced offense. Also, OSU gets at least one TD on special teams. (Prove me wrong Zippies!)OSU 35Akron 13P.S. I will also predict that Bryan Williams scores on Saturday.
  10. All kidding aside, Brutus can't hold a candle to Zippy, who may be the coolest mascot in college athletics.Pay close attention, and you notice that people, especially kids, can't look at Zippy without smiling. Zippy's Got IT, whatever IT is.
  11. Way to go, Zips fans! Nine comments... all of them giving the hypocrites what for.Go Zips!
  12. Hard to argue with your logic, Buckzip.I hope I haven't been rude to anyone. I certainly haven't intended to be. I've tried to keep my smack-talk as good-humored as possible, hoping mostly to provide a little mindless entertainment both for me and my fellow Zips fans.Best wishes to you, and GO ZIPS!
  13. Beating Ohio State... hands down. You beat them and the MAC titles will take care of themselves. As far as team goals, though, I think a conference title and bowl appearance should be the ultimate goal every season. Beating NC State was great last year, but that achievement was severely diminished, IMO, by the Zips' play in conference.
  14. Good grief. I'm certainly not in favor of being rude to anyone, but what the heck is wrong with a little smack talk? And as for insulting Columbus Tech, I don't see much wrong with that, either. If what I've seen on this board is truly upsetting to OSU fans, then they need thicker skins, not pity from me.Go ZIPS! Brutus
  15. Just when you thought you'd seen it all, the Beacon Journal editorial page stoops lower than they've gone in years. According to the brain trust at Main and Exchange, children will go without dental care because Infocision and Summa gave $15 million for UA's new stadium.Funny how it isn't new art museum's (a multi-million-dollar monstrosity), main libraries, hike and bike trails, etc., that siphon away funds from the little kiddies' teeth. Nope, it's just the football stadium that should have been built 20 years ago. These people have no shame.Link http://www.ohio.com/editorial/opinions/9608907.html
  16. Whether this Saturday or another Saturday, the Day of the Zips is coming, brethren and sisthren.Have no doubt. Hold heads high. Believe. He seems to be impervious, but let's unload a few rounds on Brutus just for chucks and giggles, okay? Brutus
  17. Righto, 74.I will lat heavy odds that Jabari Arthur does not have 11 catches on Saturday. In fact, I'm quite sure they will go all out to take him out of the mix as much as possible.Just more rationale for lining up the most playmakers possible.
  18. Actually, I seem to recall posting those very sentiments on a formerly existent board of blue some years ago. While life has thrust a few challenges and adventures my way since those days, my feelings have not changed in the interim.Go Zips!Class of 82P.S. Nuclear weapons seem a rather extreme solution, but desperate times do sometimes warrant desperate measures.
  19. For the past 72 hours plus, in several posts, I have subjected Brutus the Buckeye to constant virtual automatic weapons fire and bucketloads of animated vomit, all without any apparent effect. Brutus is apparently far tougher than I imagined.Moderators, I think a substantial escalation in the available arsenal of emoticon weaponry is probably in order. I would recommend that top men be assigned immediately.Respectfully,Class of 82
  20. The Windosor Pub (SE corner of Brittain and Tallmadge) has the Big 10 network and numerous TVs. Cheap brew, also.
  21. I like all three of our backs. I'd just like to see the best threats we have someplace else than on the sidelines. My hope is that the coaches can find some creative ways to make that happen. As for Harvey, it seems almost unbelieveable he can be back. I'm not against it, and I hope he makes it. But that would be some kind of comeback. I'll tip my cap to the young man if he can actually pull it off.
  22. Greetings, and good luck to you, too. You appear to be one of the higher forms of Columbus Tech bacteriology. One correction, though. I said "a mite miffed." That is several magnitudes short of "seriously miffed." A "mite" is a tiny, 8-legged member of the spider family. I just love clever metaphors like that.Class of 82P.S. While I am certainly "sick" of Ohio State, I reserve actual hatred for things like murder, human suffering, thievery, etc.
  23. At the crescendo moment of the Zips fight song, when throngs of Akron fans madly croon, "Zip go the Zippers," the student section stands in unison, turns to the feverishly frenzied crowd, and unzips and re-zips their zippers.I'm tearing up as I recollect the scene. Talk amongst yourselves while I weep.P.S. On a serious note, we don't really have those kinds of traditions you're thinking about. We do, however, have Zippy. Zippy is way cooler than Brutus, who has an annoying tendency to make me feel ill. BrutusSee?
  24. Pardon me while I recalibrate the barf bomb targeting computer... BrutusBullseye!
  25. Well, fellas and fellinas, it seems some of the friendly folks at buckeye planet are a mite miffed that some Akron fans (mea culpa) are freely flinging smack bombs at their cherished cathedral of self-righteousity. Sheesh. It almost makes me think that if we were all nice and friendly-- throwing in a few grovels and several shovelfuls of aw-shucks-- then Akron football might actually get a few compliments. So, on behalf of my smack-talking self, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone who takes my smack too seriously. It's just so darned much FUN that I often can't help myself.Tell you what I won't do, though. I will not hang my head. I will not grovel. I will not be intimidated or feel inferior. We are Akron. We are the Zips.Class of 82P.S. I am truly sorry, but Brutus-- crazy little nutjob that he is-- is making me sick again... Brutus
