  1. Hello Zips Family....

After seeing Kwan get hurt in the Toledo game... I was really worry he wasn't going to play this game. Kwan really hasn't had to deal with injuries. So, I was concern how this would effect him. Well... I must say he actually did good despite being injury. I spoke with him after the game and he said "that he felt good and he knows he has to really step up his game on Saturday against Central Michigan". I have to say I really enjoy watching this team play this year. They seem to really like each other and play well together. I'm excited to be a ZIPS mom and fan....GO ZIPS!!!

Glad you're having, ZIPSMOM2! Kwan is a pleasure to watch!

    From today's ABJ:

The Cheatham difference: Kwan Cheatham’s status was uncertain heading into the game, yet he gutted it out and gave the Zips 19 minutes and was effective, Dambrot noticed.

“I think the one thing that’s really noticeable is with Kwan Cheatham and without Kwan Cheatham. It’s huge having that second defender at the rim and not playing that 6-6, 6-7 guy,” he said. “We got [19] minutes out of him. He got five points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. That’s a good day at the office for a guy that didn’t practice.”

  2. Someone... someone... SOMEONE at UA just has to be working on getting funding together.

    The City of Akron.

    Summit County.

    The University of Akron.

    LeBron.

    -Nike

    -McDonald's

    -Coca-Cola

    FirstEnergy.

    FirstMerit.

    Goodyear.

    Diebold.

The funds just have to be out there for a 8-10,000 seat arena. Especially if we are willing to drop $30 million on a JAR renovation project.

Here is a list of N.E.O. Fortune 1000 companies.

  3. I walked in there today and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Its a nice greeting for fans as they walk in the building. Hopefully more relatively inexpensive things like this can be done throughout the arena.

I've always enjoyed seeing the life-size pictures of players. You can stand next to them & get a feel of how huge these guys really are. When you're sitting in the bleachers & everyone out on the floor is 6'8, it can be difficult to tell how huge those players really are.

The Q also has pedestals with basketballs painted with the handprints of various players. Again, it just lets you appreciate the size of the players.

  4. I think that what ZippyMan is saying is that, at this point in time, if we draw a line in the sand, no one will be Zips fans. Joe Akron will stick with the Buckeyes.

I loathe OSU, but I don't let all of my friends in on that, because they've been raised OSU fans & have been their whole lives & if I draw a line in the sand with them they're going to stick on OSU's side. And why shouldn't they - they've been OSU fans their whole lives, and OSU is fun to root for - unlike the Zips. Makes me sick, but people love to associate with a winner. I'm a long-suffering Zips fan, but there aren't too many people who are willing to go through the suffering that we on ZN.O are willing to bear.

But I digress. The UA Athletics Department officially endorsing Ohio State was a true kick in the balls to long-suffering and loyal Zips fans.

  5. I think we should go into the lion's den twice a year.

Firstly, it'd be two $$ games and we need more $$.

Secondly, and most importantly, the soccer team regularly plays, and beats, Columbus, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Maryland, etc. If we want Joe A. to take us seriously, we have to schedule and beat the B1G boys.

I don't want a Miami Redhawks type schedule. Just two per year. Not asking for the moon. We went to Penn State this year. I respect that. Now add one more.

  6. One thing that really caught my attention was the continuous subbing. The Zips started subbing players less than 3 minutes into the game, and it seemed as if there was at least 1 sub made every minute or so throughout the game. I can't recall ever seeing such rapid player rotation. Then again, Coach Dambrot is asking his players to go all out on defense, and that can be tiring. As long as you have 10 or 11 good players who can contribute, why not use them? The Zips had 10 players with double-digit minutes, and BJ would have probably been the 11th to play double-digit minutes if he hadn't been injured in the last game. WMU had 4 players who were on the court 30+ minutes, and they were having a hard time staying with wave after wave of fresh Zips.

Loved it! The coaching staff has worked hard to put together a 10-man roster. Now let's use it! Everyone was playing with such energy and aggressiveness on D - leaving it all on the floor - it looked like WMU didn't know what hit 'em.

  7. I haven't been to any of the watch parties in the valley, and I like the valley, but if we really want to maximize the impact on locals, I think Old Pints (what's the name now?) is a great place to start. It's closer to campus too.

Agreed. I also like the valley, but I think we've really got to try and support downtown.

  8. Thought this was interesting. I coach a 4-5th grade basketball team. We have 10 kids on the team. At Monday's practice, during the mid-practice huddle, talk turned to the national championship game. 4 of the kids are sports-oblivious & probably don't even know what a football is, let alone who's playing in the game. However, of the remaining 6, 4 of the kids were pulling for Oregon over Columbus. I was pleasantly surprised.
