  1. Domain seized by the feds. ADTHE. net as well.

I'll miss all those free broadcats :(

No surprise that it happened right before the Super Bowl as the NFL was the main group so against those sites in the recent months.

Good news for ADTHE though, as atdhe.ME is already up and running. Also, I believe the ".me" domain is Montenegro but I don't know if that's relevant.

channelsurfing does list a new site as http://www.channelsurf.eu update accordingly.

  2. My #1 choice would've actually been Boise State. I think the casual fan will connect with the name they've made in football and would've drawn a large crowd. I like Creighton though, especially for our position.

Interesting note: Creighton realtimerpi: 129. Highest ranking win @#118 Evansville (MVC)

Akron realtimerpi: 164. Highest ranking win vs.#78 K-ent State (MAC)/vs#182 Oral Roberts

  3. Well, not that we thought we'd get a TV game, but ESPNU just made sure we know we're not. K-ent is the only team from the MAC on TV, getting a tough draw to play at the CAA's Drexel. The MAC is just terrible this year...down to 21st rank in the country according to www.realtimerpi.com

  4. Here's an idea: if the recruiting sites say we have a top class in the MAC, ignore it. If the recruiting sites say we have a middle of the pack class in the MAC, ignore it. If the recruiting sites say we have a bottom of the pack class in the MAC, ignore it. If the recruiting sites pay more attention to us other than ranking us in the typical 80-110 range that they usually throw MAC teams into, upgrade your excitement level 5%. Remember, stars don't matter (take a look at the past rankings in our conference), and just pay attention to the field.

Always remember, the national media loves covering MAC football as much as they love coming up with MAC basketball preseason rankings, etc. Remember when our own MAC media outlets weren't even aware of the defections from OU's program and predicted them a landslide victor in 2011? Translate that to prep rankings at this level.

  5. For those who do not know, there was an ugly incident that took place at CMU last night. Miami's Antonio Ballard , by all accounts a good guy, had a break away dunk in the last seconds of last night's game. By this point the game was out of reach and his dunk had no influence on the outcome. As he goes up, out of nowhere#10 Coimbra delivers a crushing hard foul to the back of Ballard who tried to break his contact with the basket support by putting his hands out. Result ? A career ending broken wrist. There is clearly no place in the game for this stuff. Nice group of kids you got up there Earnie ! Even though he's a Redhawk, I feel pretty bad that Ballard is now finished. He's a good guy who left it all out on the floor every night. He was also on pace to be the MAC MVP.

It is my hope that some of the Rowdies give both #10 Andre Coimbra and coach Zeigler a very hard time Sunday night. Chants of "cheap shot... cheap shot..... would be appropriate. The guy is from Brazil so something could be cooked up based on that theme as well. My lungs are healthy, he'll hear me for sure.

This guy would have been great in an AfroSheen commercial. I present to you, Cheap Artist #10 Andre Coimbra, The Punk !

    Bum !!

Wow. That's terrible. Right on, HZ. I hope the Rowdies get on him big time. I didn't see the video though, so I'll reserve full judgment until I see it.

  6. Phew. What a stinker. To think getting within 7 points is the highlight of the game. There's no one on the team that's not getting shaken out of their shoes on defense. NIU has really had our number since that upset to end the JAR winning streak a few years back.

  7. On this day in 2002 Andy Hipsher had 22 points and Rashon Brown had 25 points to beat CMU. Do we have players that can score like that any more?

Can McNeese stop overthinking and just start playing basketball? Can someone teach our players how to defend?

Steve MCNEES will come around, it's obviously mental. He'll get there. Chuck Galetti, EXPONENTIALLY BETTER on the halftime show than the pretty blonde girl that did the show of the Buffalo game. Good job, STO.

  8. I honestly don't think people understand the true definition of a front runner.

Wow. How can this sort of crap get by and/or be supported by the athletics department? As a Cleveland sports fan, I'm more offended than if otherwise, but there's no way that there should be a goofy opinion voiced on the jumbotron at all. I'd disagree less if it said "Go Browns!" but the point is the same. Sounds like someone on the scoreboard crew is one of the typical goofball NE Ohio Steeler fans that love to shove it in your face how good "their" team is just to get a rise out of you. Front runners indeed, lilroodude.

  9. Flushes up on the Sweaters by 15 with 15 minutes left. If they hang on, this is definitely anyones' division. We also have the three best teams in the West at home. There is still ground that can be made up.

I noticed this today as well. It's a change of pace from the usual bad luck the Zips have in the crossover games.

  10. That is impressive. Makes one think that KD kinda knows his stuff eh?

Or that we rarely play great opponents in back-to-back games.

Think of our usual OOC schedules and our weak conference.

Oh OK, KD deserves no praise at all. Get real.

C'mon Hip Zip, haven't you learned? Our coach's seat should be warm.

  11. I'm sorry, but the vast majority of these posts are just a little ignorant. Should our coach change his lineups because you think they'd make the team play better? How many of you are Division one head basketball coaches? How'd you like to be a fan of EMU, Toledo, CMU, ETC? Any of those fan bases would kill to have a dedicated alum coaching their team to the consistent success that we've seen over the last 6 years. Ever stop to think maybe the pieces aren't there/ready yet? (Like coach has said since the season started). To expect more out of a MAC program is ignorant. I dont know about you, but I'm not ready to head back to the old 5 to 10 win seasons. Chill out and remember we'll never win every game.

I've never been a fan of the "Have you ever been a D-1 head coach? If not, you don't know basketball" argument. There are several people on this board with a very good basketball IQ who likely never so much as sniffed the water bucket in their high school "career."

Put the ball in the hoop. Stop the other team from putting the ball in the hoop. It is a simple game.

Nor am I a fan of the line: "If Coach "X" isn't here, we will never be successful. Be happy you aren't <insert perennial loser here>." 20 wins is not the be-all-end-all. There are scores of coaches who do it every year. And scores of programs that re-tool with different coaches and still win their 20+/season.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to win championships. There's nothing wrong with wanting to have a magical 2-game deep run in the NCAA tourney.

There's nothing wrong with admiring what Gary Waters has accomplished at CSU, in such a short period.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to beat a BCS "major" program every-so-often.

There's nothing wrong with hating to lose to K.e.n.t more than you beat 'em.

There's nothing wrong with having high "mid-major" standards for your program. You should have them at Akron. It's a 30,000 student University with a long basketball tradition.

I understand that we are in a transition year to a new style of team. But there are no guarantees that next season will be any better. I was geeked about Andy Hipsher...and he won nothing. I was stoked to get Derrick Tarver...and he won nothing. I was excited when Dru Joyce's eligibility expired, thinking we'd open up our offense more...and after 7 seasons he's still the best PG we've had under Dambrot. I was excited about Humpty, who delivered us an NCAA tourney bid... and he got booted off the team after 2 seasons.

We have potential to be really good next season. But potential simply means: you haven't done it. Next season could be worse than this year. It could.

The MAC is very mediocre this year, and the league championship is there for the taking. I've personally lamented that we don't have guys with the skills and intangibles of Dials/Joyce/Middleton....but I don't think that means we can't win the MAC as it consists in 2011.

Fans are frustrated that the team has not played to it's potential. Especially at home. We need to beat BG tomorrow night. Coack K gets paid $300k+ to figure out a way to do it. I think there's nothing wrong with having expectations that he should do it. Or being pretty depressed if he doesn't. It's called being a fan.

Maybe I overemphasized the wrong point. It is absolutely ok to want to win every game and to want the best for the program, and hell, to criticize the crap out of the coach. (See some of my former posts on the football forum).

My issue is more with those that suggest that coach would even have a slightly-above-room-temperature seat. It just seems that a lot of folks look for reasons to whine here when there are few. How's KD's record against Can't? 5-9, as best I can tell. Good? No. Terrible? Hardly. Still a fairly small sample size when you play two or three times a year.

We've made the MAC Championship game 4 years in a row. How many times previous to Coach Dambrot have we made it to that game? Some people choose instead to focus on the fact that we only won 1 of them. I've only been following the Zips for a short time (10 years) compared to some of you vets, but it wasn't all that long ago when we couldn't even win A GAME in the MAC tournament.

I just think this team, especially with underperforming veteran guards (McNees, Roberts), under-utilized and still behind "breakout level" Marshall, and a bunch of newcomers and unknowns, currently lacks the ability and knowhow to win these big games. Everything is just inconsistent right now, and I don't think much, if any is from coaching. Currently, defense is the biggest glaring weakness. We lack that lockdown defender on the perimeter that we had somewhat consistently over the last several years in Conyers/Linhart and such. Can Abreu step up and be that guy? He certainly has the speed in the half court game, but he's still raw.

The onus, to me, is much more on the players. The MAC is built on the perimeter right now, the league lacks a 7 footer other than Zeke. It should be a big plus for us, instead of a liability. If we continue to not put a hand in the face, perimeter based slashing guards will continue to kill us. You can't tell me it's on coaching for those rotations to be slow. Alright, apologies for the ramble and apologies to those of you who took my previous post personally.

All that said, to compete this year, and I do think we'll get slightly better as the year goes on, tomorrow is a MUST WIN.
