  1. We are all DYING for September 12. The majority of Zips' fans, though, either leading up to that day or after that day will not get to see some of the above locations. I know that I would love to see them all! Which one would you like to see up close and personal and why?
  2. The Zips will not have the services of Kofi Sarkodie and incoming freshmen Chad Barson, Scott Caldwell (who are already enrolled at UA) because they are still with the U-18 National team.
  3. You should contact Elizabeth Brinkmann, Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions, at ebrinkm@uakron.edu.
  4. That is not at New Mexico. That is at Lee Jackson Field during the Westfield Cup, a four-team tournament we hosted . We were playing New Mexico that night and won by a score of 3-1. The scarves that you saw, if you look closely enough, has the Zips logo and "Westfield Insurance" printed across them.http://www.gozips.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPS...p;Q_SEASON=2007We played at New Mexico on September 12, 2008. The pictures that you found were from August 31, 2007.
  5. After over a decade of watching Zips athletics...and being let down SO many times, I can say with true sincerity and belief...we'll be back and better than ever next year.
  6. Check out what the players at UCONN are saying about Coach Moorhead's offense he is going to install for the Huskies:http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigeast
  7. Things are getting REALLY, REALLY tight and interesting as always. But with the win over Miami last night, here is where everything stands in a very messy Mid-American Conference if the season ended today. I am of course a realist and a long-time MAC follower, so I know that it is anything but over! But here's what it looks like:Seeding:1. Buffalo2. Ball State3. Akron4. Miami5. Bowling Green6. Can't7. Ohio8. Western Michigan9. Central Michigan10. Northern Illinois11. Toledo12. Eastern MichiganTournament Pairings:TOP OF THE BRACKET:#8 Western Michigan vs. #9 Central Michigan (winner plays #1 Buffalo)#5 Bowling Green vs. #12 Eastern Michigan (winner plays #4 Miami)BOTTOM OF THE BRACKET:#7 Ohio vs. #10 Northern Illinois (winner plays #2 Ball State)#6 Can't vs. #11 Toledo (winner plays #3 Akron)

  10. Here is your explanation for the double wall on the south end...if you look at the southeast corner of the field, which will lie on the visitors' side of the stadium, there is a section of bleachers not yet completed. That area under the metal sheeting and concrete and covered at one end is the visitor locker room. The "double wall" that you make reference to UAzipsman, has created the tunnel that the opposing team will enter through to come to the field. It is actually big enough to drive an 18-wheeler onto the field if desired. As an additional note, imagine being a Golden flush and coming out of that tunnel and onto the new playing field and the first thing that you see is a 180-foot tall press tower looking menacingly down on you and the home side of the stadium filled with THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of screaming Zips fans.
  11. Took a couple of pics of the aftermath today on the way to the Men's Game. Thought those who have not got to stop by and see this might enjoy.
  12. Simply a conversation starter here...nothing implied or suggested. Just curious what everyone thinks. Do you think that the UA athletic department would do something such as what has been done with Jeff Jagodzinski with the coach of a successful program such as mens' basketball or mens' soccer?
  13. I don't know if the Nation saw this on a previous discussion board, but I asked Zeke's mom if they will be joining us at the JAR for any games this season. Look at her response:...Zeke, his stepdad and his little sister will be at the NC A&T home game on the 13th, which is also Zeke's 18th birthday I unfortunately have a previous engagement on the same day and will actually be in Dayton, OH on that day.. Do you think the Rowdies can play this up for our favorite player from McKeesport at that game?
  14. Mom - will we be seeing the family in the stands at any home games at the JAR as we did last year?
  15. So who has the pleasure of fishing the ball out of Lake Michigan when kicked out of play?
  16. Maybe I am just being impatient...but the link off of the Northwestern site says "Watch Now" and the media browser that pops up shows NO indication of a link to today game that begins in AN HOUR! Anyone else find it?
  17. I am going to take the high road again on this and call the Zips a winner on Sunday in Evanston. My mind then goes to the Elite Eight round...we face the winner of the North Carolina/Illinois-Chicago matchup. What are the thoughts of the Nation on where we'll play this round? After the next few days here in Akron in the upper 30s and near 40, it's scheduled to snow all next week.Forecast in Chapel Hill, North Carolina calls for mid-50's a only one day with a chance of rain on the three potential days of the match-up.Forecast in Chicago, Illinois calls for mid 30's and sunny on the three potential days of the match-up.UNC and UIC both have natural grass fields. So where is the trip to the Final Four decided...in Chapel Hill, Chicago, Akron or on Mars?I go with Chapel Hill, as much as it pains me to say...
  18. I don't want to try to sound optimistic at all about this situation...but maybe we can think about this...Now that the NCAA has screwed us over...LET'S GO WIN THE WHOLE FLIPPIN' THING! Let's REALLY tick everyone at the NCAA off by doing THAT!This week Evanston...next week the North Pole...and two wins in Frisco, Texas...or the Moon since Frisco is too close to Akron!Let's just go wherever those idiots at the NCAA want us to and KICK BUTT!!!

  20. 0-0 still with 15 minutes to go in the second half.
  21. The Soccer Zippers were victorious in the MAC Championship game on Sunday afternoon by a score of 1-0 on a goal by Steve Zakuani. Four Zips made the all-tournament team and they will find out their draw tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. on ESPNews. Viewing Party is at the same time in the Tommy Evans lounge.
  22. From weather.com for the Rubber Bowl area (44312) tonight...
  23. OK, my fellow ZipsNationers, it's time for one final look into the "Crystal Ball: Rubber Bowl edition". Many of your have read the thread that the UB fans are posting...they are picking the Bulls by anywhere from 1 to 11 points. We all know that the Zips don't want it to and won't let it end on an "L".Looking at the team stats for both teams...the Zips average 30.2 points a game and allow an average of 28.4...while Buffalo averages 28.7 and gives up an average of 26.1. In many stats, the teams are eerily similar...Time of Possession (UA - 28:35, Opponents - 31:25, (UB - 31:33, Opponents - 28:27)Total Offense (UA - 3581, UB - 3414)First Downs (UA - 198, UB - 181)Passing Touchdowns (UA - 17, UB - 17)Records (UA - 5-4, 3-2; UB 5-4, 3-2)and on and on and on...Let's hear what everyone thinks the score to the game will be. I (of course) give the edge to the Zippers for many reasons, but think that it will be a very close and competitive game:Akron 31Buffalo 27
  24. Although the GameCast is down in Columbus, I got word that despite the Zips being down VERY late in the second half 2-1, they came back to win on a Blair Gavin goal 4-3!!!!!
  25. Very witty (and hopefully accurate), Dr. Z. A follow-up to your post...of the eight things that you listed, if pushed to pick one, which one do you think come first of your eight?
