  1. My only issue with this schedule is that we're not playing anywhere in Florida in late October/early November. I enjoyed going to FAU last year. I guess I'll have to wait until next year. A road trip to South Bend in early September could be fun with a jaunt into Chicago on the Saturday between matches. Also, I can't believe that the MAC got it right...WVU at Akron on a Saturday. If Zips Football draws a good crowd, that could be a "crazy" day on campus.
  2. Yes, that picture was from last season. They were honoring former Zip Shaun Pendleton.
  3. Wet. It rained most of the game; so it looked different.
  4. When the day comes, I implore those in charge to ensure Caleb is involved in recommending/choosing his replacement. He cares so much about his program, players, and fans/supporters, etc. that I know he will want to leave it in very capable hands.
  5. Starters, I believe: ---Saad---Schmitt---Barrett--- ----------Quinn--------Caldwell---- -----------Stevenson--------------- --Brenes--Barson--Afsarifard--Yedlin-- ------------------Meves--------------- Later in 2nd half: -----Saad-----Schmitt-----Arboleda--- -------Quinn--------Caldwell---- --------------Stevenson--------------- --Brenes--Barson--Afsarifard--Yedlin-- ------------------Meves---------------
  6. I thought DeAndre looked really good tonight. His goal was all his, kicking it out front to himself and outrunning everyone. He should have had an assist, too, if the ball would have been played properly into the OPEN net. Numerous good defensive plays and good ball placement into the box several times. Great defensive and offensive performance.
  7. I thought the accepted name of the sport in the U.S.A. is "soccer". At any rate, your intended opinion and mine differ, but I'm happy we have both. TB still needs to prove himself at UA, but I expect that he will.

  9. I would never be upset with Caleb if, after careful consideration, he decided not to make the leap to the next level but remain at Akron. He can be the Zips' Head Coach as long as he likes. I'd be happy if he were at Akron for a long time. Of course, I'd be happy to see him in the pros and/or US Soccer if that is where he truly wants to be.
  10. I thought DeAndre had a great performance last night. Very good ball movement and control and a couple of times placed the ball in perfect position to be put into the net. Several opportunities missed. Should have been 4 or 5 - nil in the end. Also had some good take backs. The Zips definitely dominated and looked improved over last Fall.
  11. DeAndre's Mohawk is bad@ss. I like it. Perhaps he should try some "Ampai" highlights.
  12. I agree with your assessment. Eric tried to mix up the GK, but the PK ended up going nearly down the middle, on the ground with the GK having to make a slight move to his right to block it.
  13. Not surprised given that we have to adjust to accommodate an additional conference member on the schedule. Although, given the proximity of WVU and Akron, we could set another attendance record with the Mountaineers. Since this is a conference game, there probably isn't any word yet as to whether we play WVU at home or away this Fall, is there?
  14. Thanks Bobbyake and Crew8 for those articles. My belief in Caleb Porter has not wavered (how could it, given all he has done at Akron?!), but I really appreciate reading the non-Akron perspectives.
  15. Zakuani takes giant step in return Steve played 45 minutes in a reserve game vs Gonzaga. Still a long way to go, but great that he's getting playing time.
  16. I don't think anyone was the right QB for Ianello. PN7 was brought in by the Brookhart regime under which he did ok. I wish Patrick the best.
  17. http://www.portlandtimbers.com/players/darlington-nagbe * Current Club: Portland Timbers * Height: 5' 9" * Weight: 165 lbs. * Birth Date: 07-19-1990 * Birthplace: Monrovia, Liberia
  18. Moved to Zakuani thread. Moderators, please delete this post.
  19. The sequences leading up to both goals were amazing...D is a very special player. I love how he placed the ball perfectly between the defenders and just inside the post on the first goal. The placement on the 2nd was probably even more impressive...just high enough to get over everyone and the GK's hands, under the bar and inside the far post. SWEET! What a let down for the Timbers to give up those 2 late goals. Oh well, D just needs to keep his confidence up. Those could easily have been the game winners in most matches.
  20. If someone offers thoughtful opinions on BigSoccer, even if I disagree, I don't have a problem reading it. But that stuff is just venting. Anyway, thanks Yaznasty and Crew8 for your discussions. I agree with you that as long as USSoccer is interested in playing this system, Caleb will have opportunities to be part of it, and deservedly so.
  21. Thanks Bisbee. It is nice to remember Akron of 2010 when it stormed through the playoffs and captured a national title, but the Zips did not immediately find success. When Porter took the job in 2006, the Zips went 14-6-1, which included a 5-0 loss to UCSB in Porter’s first game as a head coach. If implementing a 4-3-3 to perfection were easy, every team would do it. But that’s not reality. It is a meticulous, time-consuming practice, which requires more than just throwing a ball on the field. Porter brought some former Zips with him to Olympic Qualifying, perhaps as a way to overcome the difficulty of establishing a new system, but he did not bring the most important piece: Anthony Ampaipitakwong. The brilliant mastermind of all of Akron’s success was six months too old for this team, and Porter did not find a player who could pull the strings like Ampaipitakwong at the international level.
  22. I didn't open the link yet, but it's probably been 1.5 - 2 months ago now that I noticed on David's twitter account that he was visiting Cincinnati...indicating that he was looking to transfer. I wish him the best. edit: And now that I have opened the link...you confirmed he is going to UC. 2nd edit: I did read on Murrow's twitter account, before Robbie Derschang's transfer to Akron was announced, that David was visiting UC. So, I'm not sure that Derschang's transfer had anything to do with David's decision.
  23. Steve Zakuani ‏ @stevezakuani11 If that El Salvador player shoots wide, no one is blaming Coach Porter, they'd be congratulating him on the comeback. It's a funny old game. 11:29 PM - 26 Mar 12 via web Steve Zakuani ‏ @stevezakuani11 If there is one coach who can inspire his players to turn it around, it's Caleb Porter. Should be an entertaining second half! 10:09 PM - 26 Mar 12 via web http://twitter.com/#!/stevezakuani11
  24. WVU has a nice, soccer-only stadium with beautiful surroundings near the WVU Coliseum. This will be a good road trip when the Zips are at WVU. If the MAC is smart, they'll schedule Akron-WVU on weekends to maximize attendance and build the rivalry.
  25. It's official. MAC-sports.com
