  1. Absolutely agree. Although, in the still shot, it looks like he climbed the Keeper's back as opposed to jumping as high as he did.
  2. Nice whooping the Sounders U23s put on the North Sound Sea Wolves in a meaningless regular season final match, 5-1. In the 82nd minute the Sounders U-23 put another one on the board with a goal from Zack Foxhoven. DeAndre Yedlin hit a bending through ball behind the SeaWolves defense. Foxhoven brought it down perfectly with his first touch in stride and then struck in past a relatively helpless Claudio Lazar for the 4-1 lead.
  3. The article is funny referring to it as a header. I watched it live on MLS Direct Kick...it didn't seem to be a header. Darren jumped so high, it deflected off his chest as you can see in the video and picture. Perhaps he did get a little chin on it, but it slowly goes into the goal as opposed to giving it some extra momentum with his head.
  4. Too bad Vancouver gave up the game-winning goal to Toronto on a corner kick in the 4th (final) minute of stoppage time to lose 3-2 after Darren had tied the match in the 90th minute.
  5. I hadn't seen this quote before from Eddie Johnson: Zakuani logged four minutes as a reserve Saturday in the Seattle Sounders FC’s 2-1 win over the visiting Colorado Rapids. The crowd of 39,060 at CenturyLink Field gave Zakuani a hearty ovation. “That’s the loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium,” Sounders forward Eddie Johnson said. “I’ve been playing 11 years of soccer and that’s the loudest.” But, I know Sounders fans love Steve. Thousands showed up at a match between the Sounders Reserves and Whitecaps Reserves on June 1st mainly to see Steve back in action. Every time he touched the ball, the crowd went crazy with applause and cheers. Great fans. I still hope to experience a match at CenturyLink sometime in the near future.
  6. I'd prefer Caleb to stick around awhile, too. He's built something very special at Akron. Zips Mens Soccer has become the only sports team I really care about. I can never thank Caleb, his staff, and our players enough for all they have done and continue to do. I'm so proud to support all of them whenever and wherever I can.
  7. That goal was very significant for Zarek. Unless I missed something when perusing back through the stats today at lunch, the only goal Zarek scored for the Zips was his PK vs UNC in the 2009 College Cup semi-final (just as I thought when I saw him score yesterday).
  8. Great photos of Sounders U23 action, including Aodhan and DeAndre
  9. Zarek Valentin scored in the 78th minute vs the Crew to even the score at 1-1. Montreal went on to win 2-1 on a pk awarded for a foul in the box. Edit: http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/matchday-...uly-8-mtl-v-clb Edit 2:
  10. Awesome. I believe Aodhan Quinn and his parents (visiting from San Diego) were attending their first ever Sounders game at CenturyLink last night. Nice that that worked out for them.

  12. Sounders U-23 2 - 1 Kitsap Pumas (RECAP) The Sounders U-23 defeated the Kitsap Pumas 2-1 Friday night with two late goals. DeAndre Yedlin tied the game in the 87th minute off of a corner kick... ...The Sounders U-23 continued to press in the 87th minute and earned a corner kick. A powerfull and whipping ball was struck into the box by Mauricio Diaz De Leon. U-23’s defender DeAndre Yedlin timed his run perfectly and met the ball in front of his defender. He directed his header toward the back post and into the lower corner for the equalizer. ...
  13. AFC Cleveland defeated FC Buffalo 3-0. Thomas Schmitt scored the 3rd goal. Andrian McAdams looked very solid in goal, including an outstanding save just before half time. University of Akron striker Tommy Schmitt had the goal of the night just three minutes later. Schmitt found himself smothered by a defender and the onrushing Buffalo keeper, but calmly slotted a shot between the two at a very title angle. This gave Cleveland the 3-0 lead.
  14. Nice victory for the Sounders U23. I must admit, I fell asleep before the heroics. Congratulations to DeAndre for getting the goal that evened the score. Bremerton, WA – The Sounders U-23 defeated the Kitsap Pumas 2-1 Friday night with two late goals. DeAndre Yedlin tied the game in the 87th minute off of a corner kick, and then an own goal from Pumas defender Steve Mohn in the 88th put the game away for the Sounders U-23.
  15. I would add Trapp, Yedlin, and Gallego. They fit well into both the 4-3-3 (usual formation) and the 3-4-3. Meves will compete with Pina and McAdams.
  16. Yes. You are correct. Quinn was in midfield alongside Scott Caldwell.
  17. Not that simple. Aodhan Quinn is also in the mix.
  18. I missed this article on TopDrawerSoccer a few weeks ago (June 19, 2012)... Sounders U23 navigating through first season Sounders U23 Players to Watch D DeAndre Yedlin, Akron: The pacey right back was a picture of consistency for the Zips last season and has enjoyed the same kind of summer so far for the Sounders, playing every minute of every match. F Aodhan Quinn, Akron: The No. 9 for the Zips, Quinn is one of a few guys who don’t fall into the category of being a Sounders homegrown player. Adds a creative dimension to the attack and has scored three goals on the year so far.
  19. Game winner (only goal of the match). Nice! "... And for Darren to do as well as he did defensively and also get the winning goal was a huge performance from an excellent young player."
  20. I agree that DeAndre would not be on the bench. I would see him at right wing as we did vs Wright State. With Mattocks gone, replacing his goal production is going to be the Zips biggest challenge. Also, I wouldn't consider subbing 2 players a lot of subbing. When the Zips switched from the 3-4-3 to the 4-3-3, Zac and Renaldo were subbed into the match (can't remember the players who subbed out), and DeAndre shifted to his "normal" right back position in the 4-3-3 formation. Hence, my reference to a possible starting XIII (not necessarily including these players). Our 3-4-3 may have a few different starters than our 4-3-3. I certainly can see Caleb utilizing the players who are best for each formation.
  21. This is just a guess, but based on the Spring match vs Wright State, I think we may see more substitutions this season than we have in the past. There may be a number of games where we start in one formation, 3-4-3 for example, and then switch to another, our usual 4-3-3. This will likely mean a couple of players may switch positions and others, who better fit the formation, may be substituted out/in. Instead of a starting XI, we may have XIII players who are considered starters depending upon whether we're starting the match in a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3.
  22. U-18s win Academy Playoff group to advance to Finals Serna's dramatic stoppage time goal lifts Rapids to win group as only undefeated team It was a story book ending, requiring perseverance and a dramatic finish. The Colorado Rapids U-18 Development Academy team defeated the Dallas Texans on a stoppage time goal from Dillon Serna in the third and final match of group play of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs on Thursday morning in Frisco, Texas. With the win, the Rapids remained undefeated in the group and claimed one of the eight coveted berths in the Academy Finals, which will be played in Houston from July 16-23....
  23. Awesome...AFC Cleveland (Schmitt, Gallego, McAdams, and Murrow) live in Broadview Heights followed by the Sounders U23 (Quinn and Yedlin) online.
  24. Yedlin to Quinn! Game winner! Sounders U23 1-0 WA Crossfire (RECAP) Redmond, WA - The Sounders U-23 got a late game winner from Aodhan Quinn to take a 1-0 victory over the Washington Crossfire. The match was a back and fourth game that was physical in nature. The Sounders U-23 had opportunities early but were unable to find the back of the net. In the second half the Sounders controlled possession and had a few great chances inside the Crossfire 18 yard box before Aodhan Quinn finally buried a goal off a DeAndre Yedlin pass in the 88th minute. The Sounders then held on in stoppage time as Crossfire pressed but were unable to equalize.
