  1. On Nicely Some good things in this article
"He said, 'Watch Peyton and how he dumps off passes to his running backs.' (Harris) loves easy throws, smart throws. He hates gunslingers. He calls me Howitzer."
While I do think the PN16 has a big arm, I saw him check down more than once in the Big 33 game.
  2. There have been plenty of "kids" forced to play QB because of unseen circumstances that were able to succeed. I believe that PN16 has the tools to do so. Now it is up to him to work hard at his position. I really don't care to"blame" anybody for not playing him. He is in now and I want to win! One thing is for sure, we don't have anybodyleft to have debates on anymore. I wonder if the team has practiced any "wildcat" formations this week in case of emergency.

  3. Opening statement...The game against Ohio was a difficult one. From a special teams standpoint, we gave up 13 points. We gave up a blocked punt that was recovered for seven points and a dropped kick return that led to an Ohio score for six points. Sean Fobbs, who I would play every down if I could, just made a mistake. When you couple those two with the other four turnovers, we put ourselves in a very difficult position. I thought we ran the ball better and Matt Rodgers was playing much better in the second quarter than in the first before he went down for the year. We had three drives of 11 plays or more that resulted in no points. Defensively we played very well. This team has done a good job rallying together despite the difficult situations that have occurred this year. On true freshman quarterback Patrick Nicely...For a young freshman that has had limited reps in practice; he did a really good job. It is fairy obvious that he has a great deal of confidence in himself. He made some great reads on plays that sophomores and juniors commonly miss, but he did make some mistakes. It is our job as coaches to improve his abilities so that he can succeed. We obviously can't ask him to play beyond his years and he can't try to either. On the outlook for the remainder of the season...This is not the first time we have been at 1-4 overall, the last time it happened we won the most MAC games Akron history. There is still a lot of football to be played. On Buffalo...Buffalo has two very good receivers and a different dynamic at quarterback and two good running backs that want to pound the ball. They try to keep the ball for eight or nine minutes per drive. They have been able to make big play in the passing game. As a team they are I believe they have two of the best safeties in the Mid-American Conference and a much improved defensive line over last season. On new tight ends coach Chris Hedden...Chris was the offensive coordinator at Toledo last year and I know him very well form the recruiting trail. He is an Ohio guy that is a good recruiter in the Cleveland area. I really admire his work ethic. We are glad to have him on our staff instead of competing against him.The entire 300 word press conference can be found here. Can somebody set up a Q&A where ZN can ask JD questions in this format?

  4. I really think that was a solid performance by our guys on defense.
Quote from an OU grad friend of mine that went to the game..."Wow, those are two lousy teams to watch play football. Very nice stadium."Sometimes your defensive success is a direct reflection of the offensive effort that it is up against. Wagner rulz! I think we have the ability to be a better defense if...sorry, I just can't type it anymore.
  5. Isn't it possible that he sees the handwriting on the wall that a coaching change is coming ( possibly following season). He is just removing himself from a bad situation and taking some of the heat off others. In turn he is free to pursue his next career move.
I think that is a possibility. I hope he wants to continue his college coaching career, and wish him luck.
  6. If that is truly the case, then I really don't see why he would resign. Something tells me there is more to the story than your "research" has brought to light.
Only speculation on my part. If you were on the staff right now, would you feel secure in your job status? If it were me and I was suspended for a week and was a Type A individual, I would make a few phone calls & get my resume out to a few people that I know. Maybe he got a bite? Again, I'm only speculating.
  7. I wish we could just do the little things right. 2 yard swing pass that isn't at the feet of the receiver, blocking your assigned man, hitting an open receiver, not leaving the pocket when you don't have to, cover kicks, make field goals, tackle the ball carrier. When we get all of that stuff down, then bring on the aerial circus. But when your main goal of the week is to "change the way you practice", don't hold your breath for the aerial circus.

  8. I swear MAC users live in this fantasy world where they think it's alright to overpay for things that do less than others. I'll keep my Windows 7 PC though, i like being able to actually play games.
If playing games is your objective, I agree, buy a PC. If you have actual work to do, and it requires more than a word processor or spread sheet, get a Mac. I work on both and have had to "rebuild" my PC countless times because of countless issues. You get what you pay for.I am constantly helping family and friends with their PC issues.Once again, nice photography. :)
  9. Also, in a spread offense, you can't really use a powerback like tuzze. I do not see him beating anyone to the sidelines in the plays designed to strech out the defense. $0.02
I'm not a big fan of the sidelines (East/West). I like when Tuzze (5'11" 220 lbs) runs toward the end zone (North/South). Seems like we get more first downs, control the clock, and score points like that.
  10. Did anybody read this weeks Press Conference quotes?
Last week we did a lot of self-scout reevaluations and things, we spent a lot of our time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday doing good-on-good (one offensive vs. one defense) work, trying to improve our tempo and pace of things, which I thought was productive.
Didn't JD promise us "changes" after the CMU loss? I think I speculated a reduction of the playbook that involved more running. Nope. THIS is what he come up with!?!? Tom Gaffney wrote a piece on our NEW practice strategy here I should go to practice instead of the games.
I think Matt Rodgers is doing a pretty decent job given the circumstances right now. He's executing fairly well, throwing above a 60% clip and he can get better. He's doing everything he can to get better.
This is the most optimistic quote on the QB position I have read. He must have watched an edited version of the game film. I would have preferred that he challenged his QB to be great instead of polishing a poor performance.
...and then Alex Allen, right now you see signs of him getting healthier. We're a little overly optimistic that he'd be 100% right now, he's not.
Please play the RB that gives us the best chance to gain positive yards and control the clock. Why am I reading this in OCTOBER!!!Pertaining to the defense.
    We were disappointed greatly.

On the problems in the run game: I think it is a combination us needing to call the run more, possibly use play action more on first down, the health of our offensive line, the inconstancy of our running backs, as well as the health of the backfield. There is currently no one set problem that we can address to fix the problem.
Why was Tuzze so effective against CMU. Is it possible the staff is not evaluating the situation properly? Most excuses (5) I have ever heard on the situation!?!?After reading the press conference quotes I just got mad all over again. :mad_flame:
